Food for the most part was good. The fresh oysters were quite good. Our group had seafood risotto, lobster roll, fish tacos, and a baked fish entree. All were good or very good. As other reviewers have mentioned, the clam chowder was much too thick. We packaged it to take home and thin down.
The service was attentive.
The noise level was loud which seems typical of many current restaurants.
Good food and exceptional service in a lovely setting on Newport Harbor.
Lovely as always.
Great meal and a nice harbor view. Scallop Wellington appetizer was awesome. Scallop entree and seafood pasta were both delicious. Creme Brûlée and malt chocolate cake were also very good. The pear martinis were good but if I had a complaint, I would say the martinis were a little strong.
Excellent service and food...Never had a bad time here...it was our fifth time there...Thanks...Roger
Fantastic meal. Our server was particularly fantastic.
Great location with lots of waterside seating. Nice casual atmosphere, good for business groups or casual with friends. Seafood is done very with good sized portions. Scallops Wellington & Bag of Doughnuts appetizers were great ways to start the meal. Extensive entree selections.
The view of the harbor was beautiful. The paella and sangria special was delicious. Our waitress was lovely as were the front of house staff. Very nice atmosphere. I would go again for sure.
Enjoyable evening. We ate in the bar. Andy and the lady bar tender could not have been more attentive. Only hiccup was receiving an email that we didn’t show up for our reservation, despite my clear communication with Jolene, the hostess. This was later rectified by my response and explanation to Open Table.
Have been here many times and always enjoy it. We had reservations and had one drink at the lively bar before our table was ready. Our table was right next to a waitress station so a little busy but waiter Dave was very attentive. I had seafood pasta and my husband had a sirloin. Both delicious. Sorry we had to pay $14 to park in the lot. No validation. Seems like a lot after spending over $100 for dinner.
Good food, service. Nice restaurant. Quite noisy in middle of restaurant, less noisy in side booth or table and easier to talk.
Server was amazing! Was very knowlegable and help me select the necessary gluten-free, lactose-free, soy-free, and nightshade vegetable-free dinner. Was so impressed she even knew what nightshade vegetables were. Meal was delicious and appeared as amazing as everyone else's meal sitting around us.
Went off-season with my family of four. Two kids: 13, 10. We were seated promptly, but we were offered a table in the middle of the floor in a dark side room while here were tables with views of the water available. I asked to be moved and we were accommodated. Our server was excellent. The oysters were great. Clam chowder was flavorful, but the consistency was a bit watery. My daughter got the NY strip steak, and it was cooked exactly as ordered. My son got chicken tenders that were very good. The salmon was cooked perfectly and my wife loved the scallops.
The restaurant was beautiful, staff was friendly, service was fast and food was well prepared and delicious
We went to the Mooring for a business dinner and the food and service were exceptional. I do have a beef with the parking options (particularly for a damp drizzly day in April). Validated parking was not available. With two cars, the parking tab came to $21 each. The $7 price is prominently listed, but the per hour unit rate was so small as to be unreadable. Should have parked elsewhere. It wasn't clear how much the parking lot, which is not associated with the restaurant, had jacked up the rates on their price list. . There aren't any summer crowds in Newport yet, so I felt this was gouging by the parking lot.
Enjoyed the Moorings very much. Nice atmosphere, great location, fun menu. The scallop chowder was loaded with scallops!
Plenty of menu choices to please everyone.
Very lively place for a Sunday night dinner with a huge bar. Reservations is a must. Great staff and great food. Seafood pasta was amazing! Can't wait to go back on my next visit to Newport , RI
My husband and I had a lovely dinner. The service and food were good. It was a little loud, but we were able to hear each other just fine. The floor manager checked in on us during our meal and was great about answering ancillary questions about Newport in general. The waitress saw the note on the reservation that it was my birthday and added a cable to my dessert!
We always have a great experience at the Mooring. The service is impeccable and the food is always delicious. It has one of the best views in Newport and it's right in the heard of the action.
One thing we weren't thrilled about is they no longer validate parking. We did have to pay for parking, in their parking lot...I thought that was a little unfair. You should probably look into bringing back validation seeing as I spent $200 on dinner and the restaurant can't validate the parking ticket.
Great meal and delicious spiced pear martinis!!
Loved the vibe and table we got. Food was amazing. My main entree wasn’t my favorite but it was done well (lamb shank). Definitely go for the seafood pasta. Appetizers were amazing, we got the cheese plate and the bag of donuts. The creme brûlée was to die for and the wine selection is fabulous. All around a great dinner.
Tables were close together which made the noise level a little high for a romantic dinner. However, food was exceptional, the water view perfect, and our server, Emily, made this dinner one of the best we have ever experienced.
We always enjoy our meals at the Mooring, one of our Newport favorites.
Great food, great service- the seafood pasta was amazing.
Paella and Sangria for 2 - Thursday Night Special is excellent. Bring your appetite!!
The food was pretty good, the view of the harbor from our table was beautiful. My biggest complaint was that our server, and the hostesses, did nothing to note the special occasion we were celebrating, which was my fiance earning his doctorate degree. I noted it when I made the reservation, and there was no notice of it when we arrived, or during our meal. We also had to wait 10 minutes to sit, even though we arrived right on time, and we were originally seated far away from the windows, even though I requested a table near the water when I made the reservation. Overall, it was pretty good, but not in any way impressive.
Our group arrived early and had a drink in the bar. We were seated a little while later. Two of us had swordfish and it was amazing. The third person had ahi tuna and said it was delicious. Very fun night!
Everything was perfect about tonight. The hostesses were more than accommodating, our server was extremely personable, and the food was amazing as usual. Lastly, the desserts were out of this world and getting to meet the pastry chef was the highlight of our night. Highly recommend!
2nd time there and never disappointed. Flounder and Cod dishes were excellent.
Our family of five enjoyed a great lunch here. The view was beautiful and the atmosphere was bustling with a nice mix of professionals, locals and tourists. The food was delicious and priced fairly given the upscale appeal. The waitstaff was professional and gave great service. We would recommend the Mooring and look forward to going back the next time we’re in town.
Lovely hostess. Great service! Food was very good.
The cocktails are fantastic! Other restaurants in the area tend to have mediocre cocktails, but these are hearty! The food is outstanding! Selected the dinner special and hubs ordered the seafood pasta-both tasted good and seemed to be made with quality ingredients. There were lots of families with children and it’s definitely a more casual restaurant than I expected. Was looking for a more “upscale” restaurant for our special occasion dinner, and this was definitely a sweats and sneakers place (at least that’s what we saw) the evening we were there. Felt like we should have skipped the babysitter and brought our littles with us. Will definitely be back with the kiddos! Great atmosphere for group dinners as well! 5/5 stars! Also, our waitress was extremely attentive and professional! Great customer service!
Service was great and the food was very good. I would
Definitely recommend the mooring to friends and family.
Be prepared to pay $7/hr for the privilege to dine here. Recently they sold their parking lot and no longer validate for their parking. This can add up, since this place is not cheap.
You can't go wrong with the specials and despite being a busy Easter Sunday, service was great!
Ordered a Moscow mule and it didn’t come in a copper mug which was a let down but besides that all was good. Bag of donuts is still the best app. Scallops were amazing!
Food was amazing and so was the staff. Must try.
The server David was fantastic and really paid attention to our needs. We went to celebrate a birthday. Since we were so stuffed, we declined dessert, but David was sure to still acknowledge the celebration with a comped cocktail.
I also had a dietary restriction (gluten), and the restaurant was more than accommodating.
Right at the water , be sure to order doughnuts as an appetizer, I had the cod or
Flounder ravioli which is not really ravioli .. but a huge plate of fish, a base of butternut squash purée, a bed of spinach with big chunks of lobster. Martini and wine generously poured and graciously served.
We made reservations for Sunday and were seated promptly. I had requested a table with a view and they were able to accommodate us. The hostess was friendly as well as the rest of the restaurant staff. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. We had the scallops and the seafood pasta. We were there last year and also had a great experience. We will definitely be back!
