The Mooring Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Service was very good. Everyone was on top of their jobs. Food was so so. Parking is a pain in this area. It cost me $14 for 2 hours, in the lot in front of the restaurant, on a Sunday night, in the winter. I guess that's a pitfall of being located in a major tourist destination.
My wife and I have eaten at The Mooring many times, including to celebrate our wedding anniversary (I proposed to her at The Mooring) and New Year's Eve dinner.
This New Year's Eve we were somewhat disappointed that the restaurant kitchen closed at 10:00 p.m. and that the place was almost empty at 11:00. In previous years (last one being about 2013), party favors were distributed and we celebrated at mid-night.
That being said, the food was excellent (as always) and the service was very professional. We'll be back.
This was my husband and my fist dining experience atThe Mooring. Our anniversary dinner. I don’t recall, but I must have mentioned it when I made the reservation. While I didn’t remember, the staff certainly did. They seated us at a table right in front of the fireplace and surprised us with a complimentary dessert. Such a great experience. The restaurant is a bit loud, but I like the fun and festive feeling I get when I see happy people enjoying each other and good food. Well doneMooring Team.
We were at the restaurant on snowy weekend dinner. It appeared the outdoor ambiance would be good but not at the time of the year we were there. We have a great meal and any adjustments we required were provided. Two of my nieces recommended this restaurant and I would too.
My dinner was very good. My husband ordered fish and chips. The fish was hot. Half the fries were hot and half were cold. They were such a temperature difference that the cold ones must have been sitting around. My husband's soda from the bar was flat. The waitress brought another one and said that the manager said the second one was not flat...well... it was just as flat as the first one.
We've had much better dining experience in the past.
We selected The Mooring for lunch based on reviews from Open Table, and it turned out to be a great choice! Our salads were a delicious combination of flavors, and the generous servings of seafood were as flavorful and fresh as we had hoped. Our children enjoyed views of the water, and the service was excellent. This will be a wonderful place to revisit when our family returns to Newport!
The food in this restaurant is very hard core traditional somewhat pubish . It is great for the people that do not venture 1 inch outside the tradition. Other then that, the restaurant is basic and super expensive for the pub food you get.
They can do better. The location is perfect
The price is relevantly high compared to what was served. The place was crowded when we were there and because how busy the restaurant was, it took a long time for the waiters to serve us. Plus, you must order wisely. I recommend looking for the recommended courses on the menu. They seem to taste better. The seafood was very fresh there, as expected:)
Enjoyed a delightful meal surrounded by subtle holiday lighting. Our server was attentive and the manager quickly and effectively addressed a minor issue with one of our entrees. The Downtown Salad and seafood over linguine were both excellent. Can’t quite give 5 stars as Galilee Squid (Calamari) was tiny and darker than Rhode Island’s signature appetizer should be.
We went there for our 15 Year Anniversary. The food was exceptional as both my wife and I had the seafood pasta.
Our server , Dan really made our night as he continued to fill our water glasses and ensured that everything was just right. He was very well informed and made other recommendations for the appetizers like the bag of donuts and the clam chowder soup which were one of the best we had. This will definitely be a place we will go back to when we are in Newport.
Great restaurant with excellent food and service. The restaurant was relatively empty when we visited and we were seated in an intimate table by the window.
The only downside was a crowd in the bar area causing a bit of a ruckus. We were expecting an elegant, fine dining experience but this felt more of an upscale bar environment.
I went there for birthday celebration. We were seated next to a door that lead to deck. It was a very cold day. Wait staff used that door as a short cut for set ups. We asked two employees if the could avoid goitthat way because we got a very cold breeze each time it opened. They continued to use the short cut I would say a total of 10 times in a short period of time. We mentioned it to our waitress and it immediately stopped. She was wonderful!
special occasion. Very pleasant and knowledgeable waitress for the menu and surrounding Newport venues. Noise was a bit loud for 5:30 pm on a December Friday nite. Parking was very convenient. Oysters were almost as good as the Oyster Bar in NYC....Of course fewer varieties but excellent
