The Mooring Restaurant
Great food and excellent staff. Very friendly. If you like seafood great place to go.
My husband and I always love dining at The Mooring when we go to Newport. The food, extensive wine list and service are consistently excellent. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We love sitting on the outside deck, looking at the water and boats, in warmer weather. Kudos to the management, servers and the chef.
Perfect meal with our server Jennifer. she was very attentive and professional. We loved every second.
Went in the winter, so it was quieter than in the summer. Wonderful food, wonderful service. Had a great time.
We arrived on time for our 7:15pm reservation but the restaurant was running late and suggested we have a drink in the bar. I quipped "Is the drink on you?" to which the hostess replied, "If we are more than 15 minutes late, yes." They came to get us 20 minutes later and said our drinks were on the house. Not a bad way to start. The special we both ordered was sublime: scallop-stuffed sole over jasmine rice with a lobster beurre blanc and asparagus. We shared a side of (delicious) vegetable hash. Everywhere we went all day we had asked for recommendations and we were consistently told The Mooring was a good choice. Yes, it was!
We had a family gathering recently with 5 adults and 3 kids and it was a fantastic time. Our server was incredibly attentive and understanding of the kids needs (food! Fast!) and our needs (drinks and apps and a slower timeframe) it was the absolute perfect meal, delicious food and warm, bustling ambiance.
Had an amazing Birthday dinner. Good was great, awesome service in a beautiful setting
Seafood pasta was good - but quite pricey. Service not great. No bread offered - other tables received without asking. Silverware was taken with appetizer plates - had to flag down server when meals arrived for knives. No glass refilled with water and bottle of wine - poured ourselves. Will give it another try - must have been an off night.
Wedding Anniversary, was seated in a very noisy place, when there was other parts of the restaurant that was not as noisy, and had a view, that would have been much better for the occasion. Too bad the staff was not very accommodating.
Good food and great service. We had a nice table by the fireplace on New Years Night. The scallops were very good and my husband enjoyed his seafood pasta.
We've been here a few times for lunch within the 5 days we were in Newport. BEST baked crab cakes I've ever had! and it's gluten free! Definitely recommend!
We had dinner on New Year’s Eve, which isn’t typically a good night to eat out! It was crowded, busy and loud, but we had a table for two near the window looking out at the harbor. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays and very festive. We started with the crab cake which was excellent and mostly crab. I had the seafood pasta which had lobster, Scallops and shrimp all perfectly cooked with a light tomatoe sauce over perfectly cooked fettuccine. My husband had the Portuguese Cod and loved it. Our waitress was personable and knowledgeable and made the experience fun!
This is my favorite restaurant on earth. It's just a beautiful and relaxing environment that is 100% excellent every time I choose to eat there!
Fresh and delicious food with great ambiance and service!! The Mooring is always very accommodating to their patrons. A definite gem in Newport!!
Lived up to great reputation. Would highly recommend.
Swordfish was amazing.
Great classic spot with a hopping bar scene, good seafood choices, and a warm welcoming atmosphere. Seafood salad is a wonderful change from fish n chips!
There are some treasures on the menu like the lobster doughnuts and the roasted cod. Meat dishes are fair not great. Wished they used the big tiger shrimp in the raw bar. For the price point all the restaurants in this group just seem to miss the mark slightly. Overall B+ experience for some high prices.
Food & service is always good. I love the seafood pasta. The restaurant should validate the parking all year round.
Excellent quality seafood st reasonable prices, good service and fun.
Fresh and delicious seafood, beautifully prepared and presented. Friendly and professional waitstaff. We loved it!!!
Everything about the restaurant is great, but find street parking or just walk. The parking rate at The Mooring is criminally expensive.
Had the oysters and lobster roll. Both were delicious and look forward to returning once back in town!
Good lunch after a long drive, food was fresh and tasty, slightly over salted. Outstanding service from greeting to our table. Would absolutely revisit when returning to Newport
Sat at the bar before table was ready and bartender was uninterested at best and rude at worst. Picked up from there , as waitress was great.
Oysters always a treat and the lobster roll was very meaty. Mussels also done perfectly
The Moorings never disappoints. Service is caring and attentive without overdoing. Food is excellent. And they have a GF menu
Food and service were excellent. Would definitely come back again when in Newport.
Very good meal at The Mooring - seated quickly and service was very good. Food: raw bar selection was/is very good. Seafood is fresh - drinks were strong ( gin martini 🍸) Solid choice for a nice meal in Newport
love this place but was the worst meal we have ever had there, it Christmas eve dinner don't think normal kitchen staff
Great food, service staff is always friendly and accommodating , even on a very busy night. Eaten here several times and have never been disappointed!!
Somewhat disappointed in our meal , We have been here on many occasions but this visit the food was not up to expectations
iconic waterfront seafood restaurant, great ambiance, bar service was OK
food was a little bland
Staying in Newport over Christmas..The Mooring was recommended by the locals. We had a short wait at the bar and my wife had the best Dirty Martini ever. We were seated a greeted by John, very personable and knowledgeable. The food was great and plentiful. Highly recommend it.
Waiter was excellent. Loved the food, nice view of the water and sunset just was seated by the kitchen door :-( aside from that noise and hustle and bustle love the restaurant.
I guess when you book through OpenTable you are seated at the worst possible place we were across from the kitchen listening to waiters kick the kitchen door open every 10 seconds.
We waited over 10 minutes for ketchup, and my husbands steak was horrible. Big disappointment this time. Will try again in a few months... not too soon though.
The Mooring is always a solid choice in Newport. A tad pricey, but the ambiance and cocktails are worth the price. Solid food choices. Great service. Energetic and fun spot.
3 Days before Christmas, the restaurant was full of festive patrons. We were fortunate to get a booth next to a roaring fireplace. Our server was experienced and attentive. A real pro. Raw bar clams and oysters, native scallop chowder, and the “uptown salad”with salmon, shrimp and a small half lobster tail were all outstanding. Our waiter surprised us with a comped anniversary dessert to share. An evening to remember.
Great food with a beautiful view of Newport Harbor.
My sister and I met a friend for a nice holiday dinner, and the service was great, and the atmosphere was spectacular. The Mooring is always a must-stop when we visit Newport, love it!
