The Mooring Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Went this past Saturday night for a belated birthday dinner. Everything was amazing. We were smart and made a reservation ahead of time, for which we were seated right on time. While we were waiting (we were a bit early) I did overhear that there was a 3 hour wait for a table for those walking in. The restaurant is large and open with a great, lively atmosphere without being too loud. The staff is very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately we were still a bit full from lunch, so we didn't eat as much as we normally would have, but everything we did have was perfect. Our server, David (I believe, and so sorry if I am wrong, I have a horrible memory when it comes to names!) was absolutely wonderful. He gave us space at first, but then after a few small interchanges we found some personal connections and from there we had a great, genuine conversation. He was an absolute pleasure to speak with and an excellent server as well. Thank you! We currently live in New Bedford but come to Newport often for weekend trips. We definitely will be back!
Just wonderful! I had Scallops Wellington, a very unique dish. With it I had the BEST roasted asparagus I have ever eaten. Drinks were superb and moderately priced for Newport, RI. My husband had fish and chips which he proclaimed excellent. Our server Lisa was a hoot! Knowledgeable, prompt and very accommodating. It was our wedding anniversary/Valentines Day. Quite busy and noisy which didn’t bother us at all. Will definitely return!
We loved the Mooring. The space is beautiful and right on the water, the staff is super helpful, and the menu is extensive but not in an overwhelming way. I had the Uptown Salad which had shrimp, salmon, and lobster tail. It was all amazing. My boyfriend had the Tuna and raved about it. We will definitely be returning and would recommend this place to anyone!
The Mooring was awesome. Took my girlfriend there for a date night this past weekend and only have awesome things to say about this restaurant. The Mooring is rated very highly and is one of the best seafood restaurants I have eaten at really anywhere. We got 3 appetizers, clam chowder, and the crab cake sandwhich and were pretty much blown away by all of what we ate. Throw in a glass of wine and the bill only came out to $84 which is pretty great for a higher end restaurant. Great job
Good, thick and creamy clam chowder. Our server advised us that the bowl of chowder is large and quite filling. I went ahead and got a bowl of chowder and a salad for lunch. Following the advice of our server, several of my friends who ordered sandwiches got cups of chowder rather than bowls, and we all agreed we had had just the right amount of food. My wife thought the salmon sandwich with avocado and bacon (on gluten-free bread at her request—the menu has lots of well-labeled GF options) was delicious. We plan to come back again.
Everything was great. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw the large, clean space with energetic, excited diners living life to the fullest. Our server was wonderful and paid extra attention to make sure that a mild eating disability was beautifully accommodated. It was a lovely spot to for a special, intimate big birthday, and and it was Food Network interesting good food. We even tried to the Fig Bread Pudding to be adventurous, and it was great! Charles Dickens would be proud.
The Caesar salad was delicious, excellent cheese - however it would've been improved if anchovies were offered. The scallop dish was excellent, and a side of local mushrooms was amazing! The Portuguese bread pudding w/fig reduction was good but did not have a lot of flavor.
Every time our group of 4 women go back to the Mooring, we are pleased with our visit.
The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is very nice. The flounder was delicious and so was the fish and chips.
We will be back again. Hopefully sometime in the warmer weather.
Atmosphere is casual and rather noisy, but located right on the water. If you want quiet conversation, ask to be seated in the corner “room” near the larger bar. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to sample the seafood as well as the charcuterie plate. Food was delicious! Would definitely go back!
Service was very good. Everyone was on top of their jobs. Food was so so. Parking is a pain in this area. It cost me $14 for 2 hours, in the lot in front of the restaurant, on a Sunday night, in the winter. I guess that's a pitfall of being located in a major tourist destination.
