The Mooring Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I've been to the Mooring before and it was great both times. This last time we were seated on the porch which was not really to our liking. The food was average - my husbands was great, and mine was less than. Out waiter was excellent though and I will definitely return again.
Excellent. Coincidentally visiting Newport during Newport Restaurant Week, so came here. I live in NYC so have my choice of great restaurants regularly, but this is certainly within the top 3 meals I've had this week, and possibly #1. Everything was superb. Shrimp cocktail, lobster bisque, goat cheese ravioli atop butternut squash puree, and some chocolate-y delight for dessert. Not a single complaint.
The food was terrific and favorable, and the price was also great. Unfortunately it was a very cold and windy night and we’re seated on the outside deck, that was covered by a tent. So needless to say it was very loud and cold. This must be a great dining experience during summer nights.
Allergy to canola oil was specified on the reservation, however even though the waiter also acknowledged it, the kitchen did not and there a very serious reaction to my guests.. Canola oil is very hard on the digestive system and restaurants of any quality should consider totally eliminating it.
Usually I LOVE the Moorings---I had my sons rehearsal dinner there-- but 2 weeks ago when I was there with family, my guest returned her steak TWICE !
Thus time, my fish sahdwich was sub par. I was disappointed, especially because I always recommend the Moorings!
Overall experience was great - servicer was very helpful - we informed him that my husband was allergic to shellfish and he gave him a salad instead of french fries - explaining that the fryer was also use for shellfish. Since my husband had a salad for appetizer this was not a great option. We should have asked for other options and appreciate the fact that he was aware of this. In any case, would think a fryer in the kitchen would be "shellfish free".
Service was poor and the server was very deaming. Asking if we knew what we were ordering because it was in french.... rude. Went for restaurant week and the only thing good was the pork dumplings. The steak au poivre was glazed with powdered pepper and scrapped off like tar, not correct. The green beans were not seasoned and the potato croquettes tasted like something out of a box, inedible. I sent it back and got the seafood medley, which was ok until I bite into a spoiled shrimp. It sat on the edge of the table until my friend was done with his meal. The server asked if I wanted a box and I told him that I couldn't eat it, I got charged for it. The desert was pumpkin bread pudding which I loved but was crunchy and dried out. Sadly to say I will never go back. Too bad.
The food was a little pricey but the flavors were amazing! The wait staff was friendly and accommodating. We were very happy we chose to dine at this restaurant. We were there for restaurant week and were disappointed with the menu offered for this event. We all ordered off the regular dinner menu.
We went to visit Newport, and this has been our go-to dinner spot. Luckily we were in town during restaurant week. The pre-fixed menu was a great value option.
New England clam chowder is better than what I have had in Boston.
We got the seafood pasta and it was simply amazing.
First of all, the view of the bay at sunset was fantastic. The service was good. I ordered the georges bank scallops -- the dish was tasty, but there was not so much on the plate. My husband ordered the portugese roasted cod -- it was in some sort of stock -- he said he liked it. I had the new england clam chowder before my meal -- it was fantastic. My husband ordered the autumn salad -- which looked pretty good too. Overall, the views are great and the food is pretty good too.
Visited Newport and friends for our 11th anniversary. So many good restaurants in Newport, I anguished over finding just the right one for the anniversary dinner. Was not disappointed by the Moorings...staff was very cordial and professional, food was great...and I truly enjoyed the ambiance.
