The Mooring Restaurant
Friday & Saturday 11:30 AM – 10:00 PM
The atmosphere was great. The food was just above average. Rum and coke tasted like water-downed Pepsi.
It was mediocre and a bit disappointing. First of all. I made he reservation way in advance and they tried to sets us at a tiny table stuck next to a wall with no view of the water. When I objected, they made us wait and then placed us in far back still with no view. Also, my boyfriend is 6’6 and I am 5’11 so they never should have tried to squeeze us in such a tight spot! The waitress didn’t bring us the bread until after our salads — then she rushed us and for our order wrong. We wanted steamed lobsters we got baked stuffed lobsters. We had to ask about the specials. My boyfriend sent his back and I sat eating by myself. The atmosphere is pretty and festive but I was disappointed because I chose the Moorings as our romantic dinner as we were only there one night this trip. At the end, they took our drinks off the bill but it wasn’t good enough.
Always enjoyable something for everyone. Consider sharing portions are very generous.
Noisy, crowded. Poor parking arrangement. Drunk at the table next to us. 40 minutes to get food after appetizers. Large party out on deck so door was open and lots of noise and cold air.
We went on a Thursday night and got the Pallella special for two. It was incredible incredible. Tons of wonderful seafood and more than enough for both of us to eat our fill and bring some home.
Food was alright, a lot of other restaurants to choose from which might be better.
Clam chowder was excellent as an appetizer and our entrees were delicious. My wife enjoyed the salmon which was moist and flavorful. My filet mignon was perfectly prepared. Overall, a very good dining experience. Be sure to ask to be seated in the harbor view room!
As always a perfect experience.
After my cousin telling me she came here after getting engaged I was expecting a more cozy and romantic vibe but when I arrived it was not the case. We were seated at a bad table that seemed to be over looked by our server yet in the way of other servers who would bump into our chairs. We ordered wine and an appetizer while we figured out our next step. We asked to move our table but apparently there was no other place for us so we decided to leave without ordering an entree. Scallops appetizer was over priced, my boyfriend felt like one of his oysters was a little slimy. We left and went to Clarke Cooke House and had a much better experience sitting at the bar. Superb food, wine and service for the same price.
We have dined several times at The Mooring and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Both my husband and I had the Ribeye steak dinner...at $45 each, which I have no problem paying. Our complaint for both steaks is that they were exceptionally fatty with no flavor/seasoning. Very disappointed...but everything else was on par.
Tabitha is the best!!!
If you’ve been to Newport, RI and haven’t dined at The Mooring - you’ve missed an incredible experience. This is one of the best restaurants in New England with great cuisine, ambiance, service, and view. Try the scallop chowder!!!
The Mooring is always a real treat. The food and ambiance are excellent, the fish fresh, local and amazing, and the care and attention of the wait and kitchen staff superb. Both my husband and I have food allergies and this was one of the few restaurants where the waitress asked us about food allergies before we could even mention them ourselves, and later checked-in with us after speaking with the chef regarding how they could accommodate our allergies and making sure that we were happy with the results. I only have wonderful things to say about this restaurant!
Outstanding Service, great atmosphere, and really great Seafood. Not all dishes 'gel', but are of high quality, as are the drinks. Great location, too.
Amazing ambience, was quite crowded when we went so definitely make reservations ahead of time! Seafood was fresh and staff were very courteous. Would be lovely to sit by the water at the patio area during the warmer months.
Excellent value and quality food. Great atmosphere!
The food was really great. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and Dan our waiter was outstanding.
Great Experience. The server was attentive, great food, great location. A little pricey but well worth it.
Overall food was good. Was little disappointed to find out the dish on the outside menu was not available after we seated. Lobster roll was ok , bit pricey, however I guess that’s going rate around there. Good crabcake.
Great food, great lobster roll and loved the chowder. The menu has an appropiate number of choices. Service was good, calmed. It was a clear sky cold winter day, I can only imagine in summer it would be gorgeous!
Great food in a great location. Never had a bad meal here. Don't sit too close to the windows in the winter, there's quite a draft! Most portions are good, but the $16 scallop app is a waste of money. Two scallops! Otherwise, one of may favorite spots in Newport.
We come to Newport about 2-3 times per year. The mooring is a staple and never disappoints
Went for my moms 80th birthday. The food was good and the waitress was very attentive. Made my mom feel special.
Michael was a terrible server, made the experience even worse than the overpriced food.
Took my wife and daughters to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Food and service were first rate but after spending $200+ for lunch it was very irritating to pay $14 to park in the lot in front of the restaurant. Even if they don’t own the lot they should find a way to validate parking for at least a couple of hours. It will be Castle Hill next year, also great food and plenty of free parking.
I was very disappointed with the baked stuffed lobster. I was looking forward to a tasty seafood stuffing for that price and got scallops and shrimp with dry breadcrumbs sprinkled on top. Not a New England treat at all. The Cesar salad had a strong vinegar taste for the dressing. The bag of doughnuts were good and different. I enjoyed the key lime tart too. It was my first time there. Probably the last.
While it was Newport Restaurant Week and also a holiday weekend, The Mooring was overly crowded. There was barely enough room to navigate between tables; having an end seat, there was continuous bumping into the back of my chair by both staff and patrons. Our meals, however, were deliciously prepared and our server was attentive and efficient.
It was very good! Nice view of the water and service was excellent! It was restaurant week so it was a good deal for $35!
The food was wonderful.
The restaurant is located near the harbor and is nicely decorated. The food and service are good, but not exceptional. Overall it is a good meal, but not something I cannot miss.
Excellent service. They were gracious about reseating us when the outdoor area became too cool, and the table service was very professional. It was loud on a Saturday night, but it's a pretty, festive environment. Food was good (not great) and I'd go again.
Visiting Newport. Excellent dinner!
Nice view, decent food, excellent service, limited parking
Great food, service and atmosphere! Having to pay $14.00 for parking not so good!!
Great lunch during restaurant week
Cod was over cooked and food was way too salty
Beautiful location, great service, lively atmosphere.
Tracy our server was amazing!!
Ivonne was my waitress. I was in town for a conference and the concierge at the Marriott highly recommended Moorings. Meredith said moorings was one of the first to have a gluten free menu.
