About The Montgomery Inn - Original
When we say our ribs are famous, we mean it. Enjoyed by actors, athletes, and every U.S. President since Gerald Ford, they’re hand-spiced and slow-roasted daily, then finished off on our custom broiler. But Matula’s secret recipe sauce is the real star, made with only the finest California tomatoes and a super-secret blend of all-natural spices. And don’t worry about wearing a bib. It’s a good look.
Our world-famous ribs are definitely a hard act to follow. That’s why we also offer equally out-of-this-world entrées and combos, signature appetizers, soups and salads, and seriously decadent desserts. And if you have little ones who refuse to eat anything that’s not a nugget, children’s menus are available as well.
Whether it’s lunch, dinner, or carryout, there’s always something delicious you’ll want to try. But if you always decide to go with the ribs, we’re fine with that too.

The Montgomery Inn - Original Ratings and Reviews
We came New Years Eve so looking forward to a family dinner. We have always had a great experience before. We ordered three expensive steaks 1 well done 2 medium well. The well done was maybe cooked to medium and the two medium well steaks were rare with blood on the plate. We sent them all back and they brought them back within five minutes and they were still bloody. We left soooooo disappointed and felt robbed of our money.
Take away the the 3 dingy hostesses and it was a good night. We SPECIFICALLY stated in our reservation that we wanted a booth away from the bar. We don't go to restaurants to watch football and listen to others that do. As we arrived, that request was repeated back to us. We waited 30 minutes past our reservation time to be taken to "a booth next to the bar". Not only next to the bar but at the end near a work station. As we walked towards the table I reminded the hostess of our request. We got an "oh yeah, you didn't want to sit next to the bar did you?" So we waited anothe 15 minutes for a table on the other side of the restaurant.
Our server Patrick was very professional, very pleasant and best of all he did not rush us. He was attentive to our needs and a very good waiter. Kudos to him! The food was pretty good but would like to see more variety on the menu and their prices are getting out of reach.
I grew up on this place and give it five stars for consistency. Tastes as god today as I remember as a child. While known for the BBQ sauce and ribs, there are many other choices including fish, sandwiches and salads. I usually go for the Cantonese Shrimp (at least as an appetizer to share) because there is nothing else like it anywhere! The sauce is amazing! Took my toddler last month for the first time and she got the cheeseburger. When I asked her how it was, she showed me two thumbs up! Doesn't get better than that for a family night out. The servers should also be credited for their knowledge and professionalism. Have never had a bad experience.
We typically eat at the Boathouse, but due to location and other family joining us for a birthday celebration, the Original restaurant was a better option this time. We had to wait an hour to be seated, even though we had a reservation or "call ahead seating". We asked twice for the lacking set of silverware and napkin, and finally had to take a set from a nearby table. The food also took over an hour after we ordered. Will probably not go to the Original again. Too slow overall. Also, value is decreasing... when paying $28 for a meal, you should at least get a side salad with your side and meal.
Even though I placed a reservation, we had to wait about 25-30 minutes. With the holidays I guess this was somewhat understandable. Many people were there, and many had large groups. When we were seated it was fine, but right by the hallway. It was extremely cold that evening, so sitting so close to the hallway, I felt a cold draft whenever the door was open. I'm sure with more favorable weather this would not have been an issue. The server, Patrick, was excellent. Our drinks and food were served in a very timely fashion. The food was delicious. We did not feel rushed. Overall a very satisfactory experience.
Went to Montgomery Inn twice over Christmas break this year and every year for the past 15. On both visits this year, the ribs were old and dried out and next to impossible to remove from the bones. And the sliced brisket was almost completely fat and really tough. Likely will stop our tradition of going there year after year. Party of 15 and smaller party of 4.
I mistook the “Original”for the “Boathouse,”but the staff at the Original were so kind and understanding. They said no problem and got us fantastic seats at the Original, cancelled my Boathouse reservation and treated us like Royalty-and my party of five saw all the other guests being treated like royalty too! Great food, outstanding views and good service. Highly recommend this local gem!
Made a priority seating reservation for a group of 10 on a Wednesday night. Our group arrived on time and registered with the hostess. After an hour of waiting, I was told that we were delayed seating due to a silverware shortage. Really? Its not like this place uses fine silver - its the cheapest restaurant silverware you would find anywhere. Since we were not seated until after 8:00 and served food at around 9:00 (near the end of serving time), we received reheated potatoes and dry ribs. I've been to both Montgomery Inns many times, and it appears that they have declined over the years - very disappointing. Next time I will find another place to go with a group of friends.
The valet and hostess were both very friendly. However, I’m a transgender woman, and our server constantly misgendered me throughout our dinning experience, and this was really disheartening, putting a negative tone on an otherwise great experience. We don’t live close to the Montgomery Inn, but try to stop in whenever we are in the area, and have never had this issue at any of the locations.
They overbook it like the airlines so making an earlier reservation didn’t help. We still had to wait 30 minutes. Just to be fair to them this maybe due to the holiday rush but they should also realize overbooking causes other missed commitments for guests.
Lets just say, bad Saturday night for the Montgomery Inn. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation, waited a little while no big deal. Once called we were told to wait by the entrance to the dining room. We were shocked to be interrogated by the staff as to why we were standing there, and we should check in with the front desk?? They finally realized we were waiting for our table and sat us. Once seated however we just sat there for 20 minutes without as much as a hello!A waitress finally stop by and greeted us and said that our waiter was busy and would be with us soon. Well another 20 minutes and still no waiter! Finally!! He arrives! Takes our order and once again disappears!! no water no bread nothing for a long time!! My ordered a vodka martini and when it did arrive it tasted nasty to witch the waiter replied that's how they make them!LoL! I went to the bar and had the bartender make one that was perfect. When we saw our waiter again, he was bringing our food, and the Ribs that I love were dry and tasted old!! My wife just had enough and asked for the manager. The manager was also no where to be found!! We threw in the towel and gave up, it will be a ling time before we go back, they really acted like they just don't care so why should we! My wife also wrote to the Montgomery in with (guess what?) NO RESPONSE!! The really don't care!!! Next time Carlo and Johnnies!!
