This restaurant was closed by local authorities. Had a Groupon for brunch to use on our Chicago vacation. Wasted money!
The restaurant is closed!!! The only reason I selected any stars was because I couldn't move on without selecting something. I had to find an alternative restaurant and I couldn't get the Open Table points because I couldn't cancel my reservation at The Monarch.
Take the restaurant off Open Table!!!
This restaurant is no longer open
This restaurant has closed down - please advise removing this so people don't make reservations for a closed restaurant.
What a joke! I made a reservation a few weeks ago, then modified it on Friday, to add 2 more to our party. We arrive to a SHUT DOWN restaurant. They had been evicted. I cannot believe OpenTable let me make and modify a reservation two weeks after they had been evicted.
It would have been great to actually eat here, but the restaurant is permanently closed
Unable to give a rating due to the fact that this restaurant is now closed. Tried to go there this past weekend and there was a big eviction sticker on the window. Please don't allow patrons to make reservations here as the restaurant is no longer open.
This place was a dump. Went there with a Groupon for brunch. Ordered a Bloody Mary that we couldn't stomach because it was extremely salty. The music was super loud. Not my kind of place. Also worth noting, this place has shut down since our visit. Not surprised!
Brunch was great. bottomless mimosa's were the best and wait service filled them up a lot never had to ask.
It was kind of hot and humid in there. It felt like the a/c wasn't on.
And their food is pretty pricey. I wish they offered just basic eggs and sausage with toast.
The Brussel sprout salad and The drues were so delicious!!
Unpretentious bar setting with elevated food and friendly, attentive, competent service. Clever and well crafted cocktails, a thoughtful beer list, and excellent execution on a small but diverse menu. Don't miss the fried green tomato sandwich. Excellent fries. Blue crab dip comes with house-fried wontons that are delicious in their own right.
Everything is always delish!!!
The Monarch is a great local gastro pub for Bucktown / Wicker Park locals. The owner, Colin, and his staff are wonderfully attentive - going above and beyond to make sure you enjoy the experience. The food is upscale bar food with traditional items, as well as, dishes with a welcomed twist. The bar isn't very large so any seat gives you a great view of the TVs above the bar...on the same note b/c the bar is so intimate you can't help, but get involved when the home team scores. The Monarch is a true neighborhood gem that isn't to be missed.
Very good food and brunch. Reasonably priced. Service was very good.
Dinner was delicious, and with half priced mussels, on Thursday, it was a deal. It is more of a bar, but an excellent example of elevated bar food. A little hidden gem.
This is much more a bar than restaurant. I do not recommend for kids.
The food was excellent. Everything we ordered was amazing!
This is the kind of place that you enter and then wonder "Why isn't this place more crowded?", which is why I like it so much. It had great food and ambience, but was practically empty on a Friday night. The food and service were great. I enjoyed it so much, that I'm writing a review, even at the risk more people will catch on and start crowding up the pub.
My first visit to monarch completely sold me. From the small menu to the lively music videos playing on the screens, my husband and I enjoyed our Valentine's Day meal, for sure. We took advantage of a deal offers on OpenTable which includedan appetizer, two entrees and a dessert plus a bottle of champagne. We both ordered the fish and chips for our dinner and started with the sticky sesame chicken wings. Absolutely in love with the chicken wings and the marinated cucumber salad!!!!! Colin, the guy who seemed to be the general manager of the place , even went so far as to break down the ingredients because I was so in love! The fish came out piping hot and the hand cut fries were much appreciated. We ended up being too full to even think of dessert but we wete offered cinnamon bun bread pudding, which sounded amazing!!! But we just couldn't fit it! They have great ambiance, fantastic staff, low seductive lighting and candles on each table for a little romance. This is the perfect spot for a lovely yet personal date night, with good simple food and fantastic, attentive service
Extremely good food and very nice welcoming staff. Made for a great Valentine's Day Dinner.
Also best Tomato Soup I've ever had as well as the Blue Crab Dip was excellent (and everything else).
I spotted this place while driving around and convinced my boyfriend to take me. We went for Sunday brunch and I have to say it was very delicious. For starters we got the fries with the truffle aioli, to die for. I ordered the chilaquiles and they were good, not spicy as I'm used to but still good. He got the croissant sandwich I took a bite, I loved it. Menu is small but the choices are delightful. Definitely check it out. Oh and don't forget the bottomless mimosas!!
They were 45 minutes late seating us from the time of our reservation. The service was not great especially since the restaurant was so small. The food was good though.
The restaurant had significantly shortened its menu since the last time we were here. They now only have like 6 entrees and 6 appetizers. However, they were out of one of the entrees and one of the appetizers! If you are going to have a small menu you need to be able to deliver the items that are on it. The food that we had was fine, but not exceptional. We used to like the place but now we can't trust it as anything other than a bar and probably won't be going back.
We still like Monarch and will be back.. but we were a little disappointed this trip vs. some of our last. The menu is very, very limited, 6 or so choices for dinner. The fries that came with all our entries were over done. I had the seared tuna dish which was delicious - but not much of a portion for our $19.
The drinks were delicious and inventive as always and we were really happy with that.
Last but not least, there appeared to be only 2 wait staff in the whole place - and this was the Friday night before Halloween so the place was packed and both the waiters and the bartenders were slammed. It took a long time to get our food, our drinks and our check. Not blaming the waiter, he was running his head off.. He just had too much to do.
Brussels sprouts were great, menu was a bit limited overall, but thought that the food was good. Cocktails were nice, but perhaps a bit pricey for the amount of liquor. 4 stars.
Great place for Brunch and the food is amazing.
The marinated beef was like shoe leather with so much gristle we had to get gelato to fill up. Highlight are the Brussel sprouts. Waiter had very aloof attitude.
The Monarch is a fun place to be. The bartenders are cool and the food is yummy! And to top it off, it's a Detroit Lions bar. Go Lions!
I did not expect this level of food and service from this little spot. we had a group of 6 and it was perfect for conversation and I think we ended up trying everything on the menu. Each item was extremely unique and delicious! I can't say enough about this place, but GO eat there!
Came here on a whim the other night because it was a "1,000" point table - glad we did! Tuesday was 1/2 price glasses of wine and 1/2 price mussels. We took advantage of both deals and were not disappointed. My date got the burger and I got the crispy brussels sprouts dish which was to die for. The service was really great and who I believe was the owner was very attentive to us and wanted to make sure we had the best experience possible. Menu is a bit small and limited but we loved it!
I came with 5 people, Wicker Park Fest weekend, expecting a probable crowded loud mess. However pleasantly (my first visit) this place was far removed from the maddening crowds and quite peaceful and calm. Even more lovely was a back porch that was enclosed and even rid of the usual drowning background music. The service was very kind and charming and we got everything we wanted, the only trouble I had was chasing down the check after it started to get busy later at night, but they responded quickly. Relatively short menu but nice diversity ranging from dinner meat dishes to fries and burgers, to satisfy all tastes. The cocktails were amazingly good with a bitter edge, just the way I like them, grapefruit and ginger. The pork chops were served in an ?aluminum serving platter with roasted corn and braised kale/burnt lettuce. Appetizers: the warm pretzel is amazing and a must-try, and the blue crab dip was very tasty as well. My only complaint was the serving platter was slightly curved and hard to hold down to cut the meat upon, and the porkchop was cooked unevenly, more rare near the bone. But overall quite satisfying, no room for dessert!
Perfect day for Sunday brunch outside! Our server was awesome and made sure we always had a glass of mimosas! Will definintely be going back :)
Being from Chicago, we are spoiled with great restaurants. We've been to Scottsdale several times but new to Monarch Cafe. We will definitely be back!
Over all very nice restaurant. Mussels were disappointing as very fishy tasting. Lobster roll was very salty. We shared many plates and were impressed with taste, service and atmosphere. I would recommend to friends and would definitely go back.
The food was very good but the service was not that great. Our server was very nice but I am sure she was the only one waiting on tables. We had to wait a long time for our bloody marys. She kept apologizing for the slow service. We were not in any hurry but you still want to be served your drinks right away.
This is one of those places where I'm afraid if I write about how good this place is the prices will be higher and space more scarce due to people flocking to the tables and filling up the seats because of the recommendation. Everything about the food is as good as it gets. Ask the proprietor to pair the wine and you'll know that some serious thought has gone into things here. The place is over-the-top.
Easy parking, many available tables, friendly staff. Only negative was that my fried green tomato sandwich was really greasy. I would go back though!
This is the best place to watch a game, go with friends, or grab something to eat, even when your alone. The servers are great and the owner is amazing and always takes great care of his guests, whether it's your first time or your 10th time! The burger is hands down the best dish on the menu. My husband loves the pretzel as well - it's just so good.
IT WAS MY HUSBAND'S BIRTHDAY, WE WENT OUT FOR DINER WITH OUR PARENTS AND OUR TODDLER SON. ALL OF US HAD FUN, THE FOOD WAS PRETTY GOOD,GOOD SERVICE, THE ONLY THING THAT I DIDN'T REALLY LIKE IS THAT PLACE IS SO SMALL. BUT OVERALL EXPERIENCE WAS GREAT. WE WILL BE COMING BACK. THANK YOU.
Love the chilaquiles... This is a Detroit bar, love it!
