Everything you would expect from a restaurant with 2 Michelin Stars ... and more. Ask for a seat by the window to the garden.

The Modern is a place my guests love to dine. So do I. The sculpture garden is serene. The cuisine is outstanding; service is unobtrusive and professional. The staff is welcoming. Go!

Simply stunning.

This was one of the best meals I have ever had in my life. We had to six-course chef's menu with the premier wine pairing. I highly recommend both.

Every course was complex, innovative and delicious. This was the first time that I became one of those people that feel compelled to photograph my food.

The wine selections were completely unexpected and sublime. Our sommelier explained each selection without letting on what the next course would be, so we had a bit of fun trying to guess what was coming from the kitchen based on the wine we had just been served.

My biggest pleasure was in seeing a cart of bourbon wheeled to our table at the end of the meal. I had simply hinted to the sommelier that I loved bourbon (but not Pappy Van Winkle) at the very beginning of our meal and she obviously noted this. Presented was a selection of at least eight rare, allocated bourbons (but no Pappy) which I had been unable to procure on my own efforts. Amazing.

I went into this restaurant thinking it would be a once in a lifetime experience. Now I am sure we will return - even after spending $400 per person for lunch.

Food was exceptionally good, beautifully presented and wonderful combination of flavours. Service on arrival to getting to the table at best average not what you would expect from a restaurant of this standard.

Excellent food and incredible wine list and wine service. The martini’s are on the skimpy side in small glasses especially given the high price . I did not find the one I had particularly well crafted nor cold. The bar drinks do not seem to be up to par with the wine and food. After asking for my check had to wait over 20 minutes for my bill.

Our first time to dine at the Modern. The food and service were excellent. Four course meal was delicious and the selection was great. Very nice atmosphere. We were able to sit by the windows and face inside the museum. Would definitely go again next time we are in New York.

Outstanding. The Modern is among the best restaurants in New York City, in the USA and among the best in the world. The eight course tasting menu was simply sensational. Great pace to the meal, excellent creative cooking, wonderful blending of tastes, it was just arguably the best meal I had this year. Service was attentive. The wine steward had some wonderful suggestions. It is worth a trip to NYC to have dinner at The Modern. Danny Meyer knows how to quietly provide an elegant evening at reasonable prices. Worth the trip.

We have been to many Danny Meyer restaurants and we would be hard put to pick a favorite BUT The Modern would be there in the top level. While the greeting can be austere if not cool/cold the rest of the staff and restaurant make up for it. Choosing to use the first interface as a hurdle must be an accident as it is not typical of other Meyer restaurants. The food and presentation blew our guests (and ourselves) away - the wait staff was perfect and the ambience as always. DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS PREFACE

It would be impossible for food be any saltier. The waiter poured butter sauce on top of both dishes without even asking if we wanted the sauce.
If you love butter and salt stay on the bar side of The Modern you can have the same food for almost half the price.
Now for the good news.
Most talented bar in NYC.

I've thought for a long time that lunch at The Modern with a relaxing pass through the Museum either before or after is the best high end lunch experience in New York by far. I have had spectacular dinners here and one unbelievable Sunday brunch where the staff accommodated a wheelchair four picky kids and a toddler effortlessly even though the place was mobbed. Prices are what you would expect here in this part of town but the pricey formality of the place does not at all impair its inclusiveness. My most recent solo lunch included a fellow in jeans and a tee shirt at the next table, a very romantic couple of out of towners, a thoughtful foodie in sweater and pants suit, and me in cargo pants, sweater and high top sneakers. We were all treated like royalty and when a energetic party of 6 wildly and formally dressed men arrived for a joyous occasion the staff subtly included the whole room in their merriment as though they were frosting a tart with delicate whipped egg-whites. Nothing was said, no one was "shushed" but all of us were smiling and that much more conscious of the delightful afternoon we were all having. My food was grand, an inspired truffle salad that did not show-off, seared fois gras that filled mouth and body with warmth, and a slow cooked sea bass with corn and lentils that was perfect before a measured balanced perfection of a broth was poured on (somewhat humbly called "minestrone") that transformed the bass into something magical that became noticeably even more so as it cooled; something I've never experienced in any dish. I won't spoil dessert by talking more about my gussied up praline than to say it was to a traditional New Orleans confection what a Bartok String Quartet is to someone playing a rusted saw. I say Go Modern.

Food superior to Untitled's. Very good, but I'm not a "foodie," thus not their target audience. When I last dined at the Modern, one could still order sandwiches & salads for lunch-- and get out in an hour.

I've been to The Modern before and am a long-time fan of Danny Meyer and his vision. This time around though, the staff really outdid themselves! I have a recently-discovered allergy to eggs and wheat, and was really disappointed thinking that I likely wouldn't be able to enjoy the chef's choice 7-course dinner, which my partner and I were planning to do for our 1-year anniversary as a special treat. He had never been to the restaurant, and because it's my favorite spot in NYC, I wanted him to get to experience The Modern for himself. Honestly, I was concerned (as I am often) because I hate having to ask for special accommodation, but there are so rarely decent dining options in general for those with specific food allergies and I don't really have much choice.

My concern came to nothing though, when not only was I able to do the 7-course meal, but the chef took special care to prepare really thoughtful, creative dishes that were very enjoyable, even better than what my partner had in some cases! This was truly a first-class experience I won't forget. The whole staff really were the shining example of "Setting the Table" for a wonderful evening. Thank you!!

Had the 8 course tasting menu and was extremely pleased with both presentation and savor of the cuisine. It is not molecular but an updated version of classic cuisine very much in keeping with its location "within" the Museum of Modern Art. In the main dining room ,overlooking the garden sculptures, the noise level was subdued as it should be for fine dining . Excellent service

We brought a bottle of older wine that happen to be on their wine list. Many restaurants will make a stink about that and many won’t pour it. The Modern didn’t say a word. And when I thanked them for pouring it the Som said their policy is as we experienced as they want to make sure you have a wonderful evening. Along with excellent food and excellent friendly service and a great wine list this policy makes the Modern a go-to place for us.

A truly gourmet experience. They are quite proud of their food and do a great job presenting it. Quite expensive but the full 8 course tasting menu is a must. The quiet, modern setting is a little bit sterile. Very impressive wine list. Perfect place for a special occasion meal experience.

The dinner to celebrate a special birthday was a huge disappointment. We had to wait for our table for over a half an hour. The excuses were many--prior guest at our table arrived late, they were lingering over dessert etc. When we got to our table, we were seated right next to the busy wait station (probably because we had the audacity to complain about the wait). We ordered Champagne which was served luke-warm. The food was good but not worth the price. Our $250 bottle of wine (one of the cheaper cabs) was average at best
This was our first "gratuity included" restaurant in NYC. It's clear from our experience that the incentive to provide outstanding service gets lost under this system.
In sum, a very disappointing experience that cost almost $1,000.
My advice--Don't go Modern. Go back to old fashioned quality service. And when you commit to a patron to have a table ready per the reservation made weeks in advance, deliver on that promise.

the bone marrow crusted beef was the best beef I've eaten however the shelling beans on the side was way too salty. that did dampen my enjoyment of the dish. my regret was not telling the server that it was too salty, they could have done something about it and I would have been happier.
