The Modern - Dining Room Ratings and Reviews
My boyfriend and I are in town from Chicago to celebrate his birthday. We made a reservation for lunch at 2pm on Saturday because there weren’t other days/times available that we wanted. Due to all the constructions on the trains, we were running late and our reservation being the last seating for lunch, we were worried but when we called, the reservationist was very courteous and
It was my brother’s birthday and I wanted to do a special treat for him. The Modern did not disappoint. I love the USHG restaurants and the Modern lived up to my expectations. We had a fabulous meal with attentive but not intrusive service. It was a wonderful evening. I would highly recommend particularly for special occasions.
One of the best dining experiences in New York. Prepare to be pampered by the staff. Not a detail went unnoticed. The food is a true gastronomic experience, one to savor and marvel over. The meal was never rushed and each dish arrived in a timely fashion. It is a must do every time we are in NYC.
The Modern is simply wonderful in every dimension. The bar is vibrant and lively, the Dining Room is serene and lovely. The food is amazing (the amuse bouche was tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches - absolutely astonishing - who’d have thought...). The four course prize fixe meal was full of surprising and amazing choices, including a smashing take on the old peanut butter and jelly standby for dessert. We paired wines with our choices, and the sommelier provided great pairings of totally non conventional wines, service is impeccable, and the view overlooking the sculpture garden of MoMA is unique. A totally fabulous evening. It doesn’t come any better than this.
Amazing and beautifully prepared meal. The flavors were perfectly combined and my spouse and I each loved our food. The sommelier recommended a lovely white wine to accompany our dinner that we both enjoyed (not an easy task because we each like different wines). The meal was expensive but worth it for a splurge/special dinner.
We had an excellent dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. My son had conversed with the sommelier about giving us a bottle of wine to celebrate. The sommelier picked out 3 different wines from which my husband could choose. It couldn't have turned out to be a better evening.
My experience at the Modern ranks among my top three overall dining experiences, in-line with the Inn at Little Washington and Minibar in Washington, DC. The food was spectacular, with so many amazing tastes. The meal was creative and diverse. Equally as impressive was the staff, which was attentive and at the same time non-disruptive.
A great experience from the friendly and professional staff to the exquisite food. It is a beautiful room and everything was just outstanding. Highly recommended for any special occasion, or just a special treat when you want a lovely place to eat great food.
This use to be one of my favorites in Manhattan. The food is still creative and delicious but this will probably be our last visit. Service was professional but too impersonal. We told them it was our son’s birthday when we booked and they mentioned it when they called to confirm. But in the meantime get there was no candle in the expensive desserts or other mention if of special event. Overpriced and impersonal
Its always a good option to go to the Modern when you have tickets for a show. Great food and convenient.
It happens that it was our 33 anniversary. We had a larger table and a nice dessert with salutation written in script with chocolate.
I made the reservation somewhat late and could not get the special seating in the Kitchen, maybe next time. Thank you for the hospitality.
We’ve been to several USG restaurants and this was by far one of the finest meals we’ve had anymore.
From start the finish everything was well thought out and done with purpose. The flavors were wonderful, the ingredients fresh and the service was superb. It was definitely an experience worth repeating.
All SUPERB with one fault. When offered water preferences, I chose tap. My wife complained of the chlorine taste and we were told "we have an in house water filter system that we can offer". I said fine. Not told until bill was paid we were charged $6 per person. Why serve tap water when a filtering system is in place and why charge for it? Unfathomable and beyond cheap for such a restaurant.
The Modern is clearly a gastronomic delight with some very creative dishes from which to choose. The wine list is very deep and varied. It is especially strong with French Burgundies.
The Air conditioning is absurdly turned up to the point I have to wear a coat and wool scarf around my neck the entire dinner. In a word, the place was freezing which impaired the enjoyable dinner. We asked for the AC to be moderated but it's apparently controlled by the Museum, not the restaurant.
