We brought a bottle of older wine that happen to be on their wine list. Many restaurants will make a stink about that and many won’t pour it. The Modern didn’t say a word. And when I thanked them for pouring it the Som said their policy is as we experienced as they want to make sure you have a wonderful evening. Along with excellent food and excellent friendly service and a great wine list this policy makes the Modern a go-to place for us.

A truly gourmet experience. They are quite proud of their food and do a great job presenting it. Quite expensive but the full 8 course tasting menu is a must. The quiet, modern setting is a little bit sterile. Very impressive wine list. Perfect place for a special occasion meal experience.

The dinner to celebrate a special birthday was a huge disappointment. We had to wait for our table for over a half an hour. The excuses were many--prior guest at our table arrived late, they were lingering over dessert etc. When we got to our table, we were seated right next to the busy wait station (probably because we had the audacity to complain about the wait). We ordered Champagne which was served luke-warm. The food was good but not worth the price. Our $250 bottle of wine (one of the cheaper cabs) was average at best
This was our first "gratuity included" restaurant in NYC. It's clear from our experience that the incentive to provide outstanding service gets lost under this system.
In sum, a very disappointing experience that cost almost $1,000.
My advice--Don't go Modern. Go back to old fashioned quality service. And when you commit to a patron to have a table ready per the reservation made weeks in advance, deliver on that promise.

My boyfriend and I are in town from Chicago to celebrate his birthday. We made a reservation for lunch at 2pm on Saturday because there weren’t other days/times available that we wanted. Due to all the constructions on the trains, we were running late and our reservation being the last seating for lunch, we were worried but when we called, the reservationist was very courteous and

The Modern is superb. It is ultra-expensive, but the food is worth it (interesting, unusual, delicious), and the service is impeccable.

the bone marrow crusted beef was the best beef I've eaten however the shelling beans on the side was way too salty. that did dampen my enjoyment of the dish. my regret was not telling the server that it was too salty, they could have done something about it and I would have been happier.

The dining room is pretentious, and the food portions are small and far too expensive for what is served. The front dining area is much nicer, as is the bar seating.

It was my brother’s birthday and I wanted to do a special treat for him. The Modern did not disappoint. I love the USHG restaurants and the Modern lived up to my expectations. We had a fabulous meal with attentive but not intrusive service. It was a wonderful evening. I would highly recommend particularly for special occasions.

Great ambience and friendly service, combined with innovative flavors. Vegetable dishes came out amazing, as did the desserts. Meat entrees were executed well. Beautifully designed environment, great for intimate and group conversations alike.

One of the best dining experiences in New York. Prepare to be pampered by the staff. Not a detail went unnoticed. The food is a true gastronomic experience, one to savor and marvel over. The meal was never rushed and each dish arrived in a timely fashion. It is a must do every time we are in NYC.

The Modern is simply wonderful in every dimension. The bar is vibrant and lively, the Dining Room is serene and lovely. The food is amazing (the amuse bouche was tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches - absolutely astonishing - who’d have thought...). The four course prize fixe meal was full of surprising and amazing choices, including a smashing take on the old peanut butter and jelly standby for dessert. We paired wines with our choices, and the sommelier provided great pairings of totally non conventional wines, service is impeccable, and the view overlooking the sculpture garden of MoMA is unique. A totally fabulous evening. It doesn’t come any better than this.

Overall it was an absolute pleasure. I haven’t been to the modern bar room or dining room in a few years and it was better than I remembered.

The drinks, meal, service and ambience was perfect.

Amazing and beautifully prepared meal. The flavors were perfectly combined and my spouse and I each loved our food. The sommelier recommended a lovely white wine to accompany our dinner that we both enjoyed (not an easy task because we each like different wines). The meal was expensive but worth it for a splurge/special dinner.

We had an excellent dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. My son had conversed with the sommelier about giving us a bottle of wine to celebrate. The sommelier picked out 3 different wines from which my husband could choose. It couldn't have turned out to be a better evening.

My experience at the Modern ranks among my top three overall dining experiences, in-line with the Inn at Little Washington and Minibar in Washington, DC. The food was spectacular, with so many amazing tastes. The meal was creative and diverse. Equally as impressive was the staff, which was attentive and at the same time non-disruptive.

This use to be one of my favorites in Manhattan. The food is still creative and delicious but this will probably be our last visit. Service was professional but too impersonal. We told them it was our son’s birthday when we booked and they mentioned it when they called to confirm. But in the meantime get there was no candle in the expensive desserts or other mention if of special event. Overpriced and impersonal

Its always a good option to go to the Modern when you have tickets for a show. Great food and convenient.
It happens that it was our 33 anniversary. We had a larger table and a nice dessert with salutation written in script with chocolate.
I made the reservation somewhat late and could not get the special seating in the Kitchen, maybe next time. Thank you for the hospitality.

We had a multi-course early lunch with exquisite perfect high end wine pairings selected by the chef and sommelier. Each course was beautifully presented, flavorful, not too big or too small, and perfectly prepared. Service was flawless. The prices are very, very high but worth every penny for a special occasion or an upscale tourist visit to NYC, especially if you then also want to visit the MOMA the restaurant is in. I had been here 20 yeara ago on a visit and am happy to see it has gotten even better. Seating is comfortable, the dining room decor is light and airy with high ceilings, and dress code is elegant casual though there were a handful of dolled up NYC regulars to be seen showing off legs and sculptured cleavage, which just added to the interesting scenery .

It is a "no tipping" restaurant, which just means the high base prices incorporate fees to back of the house personnel.

It is nice that they still use Open Table where anyone can book , starting a month in advancem and do not play reservation games like the upscale French Laundry does in Napa wine country, where only people in the know or with connections can get in.

Next trip to NYC I will be back, and am recommending it to others who plan visits.
