The quality of the food was exceptional. Plenty of choice on the lunchtime menu with very good service throughout the meal. We both had the three courses which took the full 90 minute slot and followed with coffee in the lounge. Staff were both friendly and helpful.
There appeared to be a problem with the booking through open table which had not been transferred to their booking schedule. However, the manager sorted this problem fairly quickly.
Overall a very enjoyable experience and we would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

We visited the night of the Rye Christmas festival and the staff were dressed in various weird and wonderful costumes and they all took it in their stride and looked after us with the same excellent service we have come to expect at the Mermaid.

Superb food. The staff in the restaurant were very attentive. Sense of humour without being too familiar. We had a lot evening. We liked how we were moved to an area with open fire for our coffee. Other couples there . The set up have you an opportunity to be sociable if you wanted to or not. Loved it!!

This was a very peculiar dining experience! The attention from staff was impressive but strange , there seemed to be a different waiter for everything from bread to water.
The food was average if i’m Honest from the other reviews I was expecting more . The comedy value of the evening was the most memorable .

One of our meals, although very nice, was served cold - we were told by the waitress (very sweet) that chef serves it at 65% to save drying of pheasant but the food was cold. Also, vegetables were extra! 10% service charge was added to the whole bill - this should be optional. The atmosphere at The Mermaid is perfect but the food, for what it was, was expensive. it is a shame there is no fire in the restaurant. I think next time we will eat in the bar, much more cosy. We went to the lounge for a coffee and no fire was lit and it was chilly.

We celebrate our wedding anniversary most years at The Mermaid but this time the experience was a little disappointing.

Exceptional building and friendly staff. Sadly my Sunday beef roast was inedible, being 25% fat and desert took 35 minutes to arrive from order. Additional wine was the same. The restaurant was draughty near the window.

Spectacular setting in Rye. Food was great with an interesting side menu of wild boar. Service was extremely accommodating. Nice coffee after the meal in a separate lounge. We'll worth the trip from London. Wished we'd booked a night at the Inn, so we could have enjoyed the bar as well.

Friendly and helpful staff who were anxious to please. The food was well prepared and presented, and full of flavour. The plum based dessert was a delight. The ambience in this 15th C inn was warm and unashamedly 'historic'.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch at The Mermaid Inn. It's a great old building with good old fashioned style of service.... including silver service tea and coffee in the lounge after dinner. Will be back.

This was an excellent stay; an idilick location, an amazing building packed with history. The staff were welcoming and friendly, the bar well stocked with a congenial ambiance. The restraunt excellent, good service, clean and fresh. The food choice was adequate but limited.
All in all good value for money for that special occasion.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th Wedding anniversary with a stay at this fantastically historic inn. We dined on a Friday (booking recommended!!) and found the staff and ambience to be exceptional. The food was very good, with a fine range of locally sourced produce and an extensive wine list. A rare opportunity to enjoy a meal in such an amazing and incredibly atmospheric place, we would happily recommend this restaurant to our friends if they were to stay in Rye. Staff worth mentioning - Cat, who was charming and exceptionally courteous.

It's not every day one can dine in an eating establishment dating back to the 1400s. Don't miss it. And while I mention the setting first, the food is excellent.

One main course dish - monkfish with a Thai sauce - was spoilt because the sauce was far too hot and overpowered the delicate flavour of the fish.
Another main course - pheasant - was less than satisfactory. The breast was tough in parts and difficult to cut with the knife provided. Furthermore it lay on a bed of mush. I could hardly identify the individual components.
Despite the criticism overall the overall ambience of the restaurant was good and the attentiveness of the staff was pitched at the right level.

High expectations but extremely disappointed. Poor waiter service . Asked for water and they didn't bring it. Complained the beef was tough and they practically shrugged it off and offered nothing in the way of compensation. Then had the nerve to include a six pounds service charge which we refused to pay. Never again.

Third time here. Food v good as ever but huge gap between starter and main course and we had to top up our own wine, even though it had been placed away from the table so as to indicate that the waiter would naturally see to that.

The wood-panelled setting of The Mermaid's dining room would elevate any meal, complemented by the refreshing delight of dining with a proper table setting, including table linen. The food itself was excellent, with my partners' sirloin completely free of gristle or fat. The presentation was also artistic and the quantities well-balanced, however the service - whilst willing and friendly - would have benefited slightly from a trifle more experience in execution. Overall, The Mermaid is a locale for a special meal, not an everyday meal, but it will be special and my partner & I would be delighted to return.

We arrived in Rye on the same day that we had booked a table at the Mermaid Inn for dinner and because it was a lovely evening we sat outside to enjoy a pre-dinner drink on the terrace at the rear of the hotel which was very enjoyable. We were a little disappointed by the atmosphere in the dining room although this was compensated by the excellent service from the very young members of staff. Initially there was an issue with the wine that we had chosen from the bar menu but this was resolved quickly by the staff, and we thoroughly enjoyed the excellent food and the wine. Although we would not choose to stay at the Mermaid Inn we would recommend the dining experience.
