The Mermaid Inn Uptown Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant is spacious, welcoming and well located. Overall the food is good but...
- $29 the lobster roll not served with Homemade fries
- service way too fast
- small portions
- twinnings tea not even served in a tea pot
- very noisy
- tables close to the windows: very cold
We arrived at 6 p.m. and the dining room was already at the lowest dimming level before turning all lights off. Everyone used their cell flashlight to see their food when it was served.
This low/no light level prohibited us from enjoying the meal and the ambiance.
I've only been to this restaurant a few times. The food is very good; not inexpensive but not crazy expensive. It can be pretty noisy but that counts for most restaurants in NY. I haven't actually had brunch there but would like to at a some point. Not sure how the other locations are re: noise level. The only thing is that the tables are very close together so it's not exactly private but not much is anymore. The server was very nice and helpful and her advice was perfect.
Really enjoyed our dinner. The oyster happy hour drew us, but everything else was excellent, too. Were pleasantly surprised to see there are may other items on the happy hour menu - e.g. littleneck clams, fried calamari, soup - so you actually could have a complete meal at a cut rate. We chose to pig out on oysters and clams to start, then enjoyed entrees. My husband had pasta pesto with shrimp. I had seared tuna. Both were prepared perfectly. We really liked our charming server, too. Lovely bonus: a demitasse of chocolate pudding with whipped cream for dessert. What a little treat! Perfect UWS atmosphere. Casual + quality. Highly recommend.
Great oysters, lobster rolls and happy hour special. Our waiter was very accommodating and friendly. Love the beachy feel you get while dining. In lieu of a dessert menu, they offer you small dark chocolate pudding cups with fresh whip cream which were just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. We ended the night to reveal, I was in love and my husband was passionate which was indicated by the fortune teller fish they hand out - very cute idea for those on a date.
Service and management of the restaurant is top notch. The food is delicious, the menu has some unique seafood dishes for the foodies. Bar scene is also great. Had no trouble getting a reservation but I highly recommend doing so if you're going to go. It's gets busy during happy hour.
I really like this restuarant. I loved the pizza when I was there before. This time I went for brunch. I thought it was good, but, not exceptional. Coffee not great. Ordered bacon extra crispy twice and made sure the waiter knew that it had to be extra crispy. Bacon came out barelly cooked and by the time I got the crispy bacon, the eggs were cold. My friend had the french toast and that was good.
Delicious fish. Gres ingredients and preparation. I had my favorite, skate. My husband had a special spicy stew. Not well described ny the server but loaded with seafood and delicious. The place is crowded and noisy and tables are too small. But with such good fish and fair pricing I can deal with it.
