Mini Buttered Lobster Roll
Great outdoor seating. Fish is fresh and delicious. Skip the fried calamari...not good. Stick with oysters and clams.
Went for my birthday! Great waitstaff. Was able to make a last minute reservation. The ambiance was great. The food was great. Will definitely be back.
So happy this neighborhood staple has ridden things out and is bustling. I’ve had consistently good experiences here for years because they’re well managed and they care. Service is always terrific from the waitstaff to bussing and bar and the food has always been consistent. Hadn’t been in a year and a half and it was great to be back!
Good casual food, relaxed atmosphere
Happy hour is a bargain
A prices were higher than expected. Linguine with clams was only okay and in my opinion, overpriced.
My favorite spot for happy hour on upper west side
I'm a broken record. Everything was perfect - food, service, atmosphere. The mermaid is our home away from home. we love it.
Great neighborhood place, great seafood! We ate inside for the first time in 16 months (since before the COVID lockdown), and felt very comfortable. But it's very very noisy (as was the tented outdoor area on Amsterdam Avenue last weekend) so we got a bit exhausted having to shout across a small table! I wish it weren't so loud, but the food is worth it!
As always, the food is very good. I did feel a bit rushed by the 1.5 hour time limit, but I guess this is a COVID requirement. Other than that, the staff were very accommodating, and I enjoyed my meal.
Went for hh oysters, wine, food. Everything was great!
Food consistent. Staff friendly and professional. Memorable meal as always!
Great seafood in a cute, nautical themed space. They have outdoor dining and tables and a bar inside. The oysters and other raw seafood are wonderful. The lobster roll and fish tacos are great.
One of my favorite restaurants! Always delicious and those old bay fries are 10 out of 10!
Despicable service. Absolutely atrocious waste of $400+. Burger King level of service, cheap entree vibes, and did I mention terrible service? I planned this night as a special date with my significant other, checking the menu in preparation for the night. Ordered the grand seafood tower, which was subpar, along with the rosé champagne (which the waitress insisted didn’t exist until I kindly showed her the menu). Waitress cut us off multiple times when asking questions about the menu and was extremely dismissive. She was the height of unprofessional and tried her very best to perform at her lowest level, succeeding at at least that task. She clearly had something going on in her personal life that she was bringing to the table. The entrees were dressed up in a cheap chain restaurant way, heavy sauces and sprinklings of random crumbs that was reminiscent of a worse PF Chang’s. Will never dine here again and highly advise any discerning diner to avoid at all costs. Deserves no stars.
We always have the best time at The Mermaid Inn. We've been coming for years at this point and it never disappoints. Last night was my wife's birthday and we had a ball. Truly. From the second we arrived to the moment we left, everyone was so kind, thoughtful, attentive, and just straight-up cool.
Easily the best raw bar in the city. And there's no beating the lobster knuckles. It's almost unfair how good those things are. Seriously.
Thank you, again, for having us and for your hospitality.
We'll be back very soon. I would come back tonight if I could.
All the best to you and yours.
They have awesome happy hour specials! $1.25 oysters, mini lobster rolls, fish tacos, the works! It’s so good 🥰
One of our favorite restaurants with a top-notch outdoor space. We go here to satisfy our craving for raw oysters. Pair that with a dark beer and their French fries, and it’s a great happy hour late afternoon treat. We usually stop by about once every 10 days, depending on the weather. Now that late spring is here, we’ll probably up that to once a week.
Perfect, as always. A lovely night, great food.

As always we had delicious food and excellent service. My only quibble is that I almost got hit by a bicyclist as I exited the structure that is in the street. To reach the sidewalk one has to cross the bike lane and the bikes really whizz by. A more prominent warning sign in front of the exit would be great but that’s a minor caveat to an otherwise really nice meal.
Loved our server!!
The oysters are King and delicious every time! I had my birthday this weekend and went 3 times to have oysters! I also recommend the Shrimp Avocado Slider and the Wedge Salad. Mermaid Inn is packed at Happy Hour so making a reservation is a must!
I love it at the Mermaid Inn! It was our first brunch experience- definitely more to come!
The Mermaid Inn is an excellent neighborhood restaurant for me, the food is always great. I booked a table for two and checked off "Inside", but we were actually seated in the section built out into Amsterdam Avenue since the COVID situation. That would have been fine but it was really cold and windy last night and I'd been looking forward to eating without a coat on for once! Also, it was extremely noisy (from loud conversation more than from the traffic!). But as always, the food was delicious and the service was fine.
Wonderful as always, but after a year of not visiting one of our favorite spots it’s was so nice to have such lovely service. ❤️
Dinner in outdoor structure during nasty weather was just fine. Somehow they keep it warm and airy anyhow!
My boyfriend and I decided to do our favorite happy hour date before I head out of town for work for three months and it was just as perfect as every other experience. It was raining and cold but the outdoor seating was fine and we bundled up and we ordered our couple dozen oysters and margaritas and were just fine. (If it’s chilly the delicious clam chowder warms you right up btw) thank you for the lovely date night and I will be back right when I get back to town. Xo
Waiter was lovely and food delicious.
Even though it was happy hour and the prices were lower, the value prop was non-existent. The drinks were meh and the food even more so. I have never seen such an uninspired lobster roll. And the crab cake was tasteless. How do you do that? Not coming back any time soon.
A wonderful birthday celebration!
VERY NOISY where we were sitting in the make-shift hut in the street.
Great neighborhood place to meet friends and family!
Great Happy Hour. Great location and lots of outdoor seating.
I would like to Thank Claire(sp?)for switching our seat assignment. Our server then baca me Paul. As always we were content.
Absolutely fantastic! We went for happy hour and got oysters, clams, calamari and aperol spritz from the happy hour menu. All wonderful. Plus we added the kale salad (delicious) and the side of broccoli rabe from the main menu. The broccoli rabe was probably the best I've ever had. Slight char, generous garlic & perfectly prepared. Ate outside. Great service and perfect experience.
Noisy outdoor space, oysters are very fresh but very small, no bread is included, ketchup is included -- shocking for a French! Grand platter is only grand by name, not very impressive. Too expensive for what it is.
Although we arrived on time, 20 minutes, which the hostess acknowledged and when it the Manger brought our table a rotund of champagne, which was a classy touch and good form! The appetizers were fresh and the main course, which we all ordered fish, was equally fresh and well presented. Server was polite and our only concern was him being hit by cyclists going past the outside seating where we were. The drinks were tasty and sadly, we did not order dessert, but, next time!
Wonderful as usual! Very lively nice! Delicious oysters and other dishes. Wait staff was exceptionally good.
We had a wonderful time celebrating a birthday. The food and the cocktails were excellent!!
The Mermaid Inn is always my go-to spot for a fun happy hour or delicious brunch. The Pink Flamingo can’t be beat, and their fish tacos are heavenly. The service is limited to 90 minutes but luckily their service is pretty quick. Definitely a staple in the upper west side if you’re looking for a delicious bite.
