The Mermaid Inn East Village Ratings and Reviews
The atmosphere was really nice! I went here for dinner to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and it was really romantic. There was candlelight, spaced out tables, and a great vibe. We ordered oysters for an appetizer and they were delicious. Main entrees were pretty expensive but delicious. We got a free dessert which was my favorite part. The waitress could have been more attentive but she was very nice.
This was my second time at this place. Unfortunately, the mussels I ordered for appetizer did not taste the same as the first I was there. Hence my 3 star for the food, lack of consistency :( I am hoping the next time am there it will taste delicious, just like the first time.
Seems to have gone downhill over the years. The lobster roll was incredibly salty, you couldn’t even taste the lobster! We were also handed the check without even being asked if we wanted coffee/ tea after the meal, generally felt that we were rushed along. Won’t be going back anytime soon.
Despite the cool night, the AC and fans were both on. I was too cold to take off my coat, despite the waiter turning off one fan.
Food was good. Service was excellent.
There is no dessert menu, although there is complementary chocolate pudding that was quite good. It was served with the check, and the sense that we were subtly being told our time was up...
The Happy Hour oysters: small but sweet and the cocktails are great. The octopus appetizer should not be missed: beautiful presentation, perfect taste. The fish and chips are a favorite and the new pasta dish is good. Let's not forget the memory-of-childhood dessert: chocolate pudding. Pleasant dining combined with welcoming and efficient staff.
Food and service were solid! Wasn't rushed to order which made the date much more enjoyable and relaxing. Also was surprised by some cool wine options... enjoyed our wine very much 🍷👍 Only downside was the lack of more creative fish entrees that I remember from the uptown location (the Tuna dish we ordered was great!). But the other options were more generic (lobster roll, fish tacos, whole branzino) than what I remember from an interesting seafood focused place. Still a great time!!
This wasn't my first time at the Mermaid Inn but it was a particularly enjoyable experience thus, I must give it accolades. The Clam Chowder is DIVINE! I can't believe I hadn't had it before. Our server, Billy, was most accommodating and we had a wonderful anniversary dinner. I will obviously be back many times.
Also worth noting, the happy hour is quite a deal and 100% checking out.
We have eaten in the East Village Mermaid Inn ( the best of the 3) for many years. This time was the best ever! Everything was fabulous: the drinks, the octopus app, the pasta, the fish/chips (amazing!) plus the service ( host staff and wait and bus staff). Kudos to all!
We came for the happy hour $1 Oysters - til 7:00 PM. We stayed for dinner and feasted on the best fish tacos I've ever had! We also had the whole Bronzino, and it was terrific. All served in the back yard garden on a warm late summer night. Was just perfect!
We've always had a great experience at Mermaid Inn. This last visit the service was especially accommodating because we were stuck in traffic, yet they were willing to seat the couple we were meeting prior to our arrival (so many restaurants require all parties to be there before seating). They even let them order separately, which was really accommodating.
Food and atmosphere great, as always.
One of favorite places in NYC.
We ate early and sat in the garden in back. So noise was not an issue. They have a very limited menu and didn't have what we came for which was skate. We love the uptown restaurant and eat there as,often as we can. I think they are very expensive for what they offer. And we like the uptown Mermaid Inn better. The Branzini fish was served whole. A struggle to fillet myself and avoid choking on the bones. HUbby had same fish another nite at another restaurant and it was butterflied and served boneless. Less of a struggle, and more enjoyable.
MErmaid Inn, take note!!!
Arrived for an early dinner and were able to take advantage of some of the offerings on the Happy Hour menu including chef's choice oysters. Ordered entrees from regular menu. Food was prepared as requested and was delicious. Server was attentive and very pleasant. Complimentary small dessert was a nice ending to a very enjoyable meal. We've been to Mermaid Inn before and will return.
