A staple in the Infatuation playbook since back in 2003 when we were standing in line outside of terrible Manhattan night clubs and listening to nothing but Brand New and 50 Cent. The fish here is always fresh and fantastic, and the lobster roll is very solid.

We partner with The Infatuation to bring you their smart, helpful, trustworthy reviews of restaurants on OpenTable.

About The Mermaid Inn East Village

New York’s favorite fish house serves up classic seafood specialties in a relaxed and comfortable setting. Restaurateur Danny Abrams’ flagship Mermaid Inn — dubbed an inexpensive version of Le Bernardin by New York Magazine — features a cozy, secluded garden in back, sidewalk café in the front and a dining room that’s always buzzing. The cuisine and the décor are sure to bring back your favorite memories of New England. Belly up to the bar and wash down some ice cold oysters with expertly crafted cocktails, or drop by between 5–7pm for Happy Hour — dollar oysters, drink specials and a tasty snack menu available throughout the entire restaurant. And if you love wine, The Mermaid’s well-selected wine list means you’ll find some gems and some splurges that won’t break the bank.

Everything was perfect.
Apparently, on Mondays, Happy Hour lasts all night at the Mermaid Inn. At least that was the case yesterday.
Our server, Jolie, was warm and welcoming, and the service was perfect.
Loved it here and will return.

The service was very quick and efficient but occasionally a bit cool. The menu was limited but very quick and delicious. A great night out

Delicious food and great ambience. Had to wait a bit for the table and the bar area is small but otherwise everything was great. Staff were attentive and friendly. We need one in London!

The atmosphere was really nice! I went here for dinner to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and it was really romantic. There was candlelight, spaced out tables, and a great vibe. We ordered oysters for an appetizer and they were delicious. Main entrees were pretty expensive but delicious. We got a free dessert which was my favorite part. The waitress could have been more attentive but she was very nice.

This was my second time at this place. Unfortunately, the mussels I ordered for appetizer did not taste the same as the first I was there. Hence my 3 star for the food, lack of consistency :( I am hoping the next time am there it will taste delicious, just like the first time.

Great service, delicious food, no one rushes you. It has a cool buzz but no one has to scream at each other to be heard. And that doesn’t mean it’s for old people. It is fun.

Seems to have gone downhill over the years. The lobster roll was incredibly salty, you couldn’t even taste the lobster! We were also handed the check without even being asked if we wanted coffee/ tea after the meal, generally felt that we were rushed along. Won’t be going back anytime soon.

We got there at 2 minutes before 7PM and the waitress was nice enough to ask if we wanted anything off the happy hour menu which is much cheaper. All the food was great and it was nice sitting outside in the back because it's quieter.

A very good happy hour selection, especially the snacks! But oysters were lacking, very small and kind of sandy. I'd skip the oysters next time and stick to the fish tacos!

Despite the cool night, the AC and fans were both on. I was too cold to take off my coat, despite the waiter turning off one fan.
Food was good. Service was excellent.
There is no dessert menu, although there is complementary chocolate pudding that was quite good. It was served with the check, and the sense that we were subtly being told our time was up...

The Happy Hour oysters: small but sweet and the cocktails are great. The octopus appetizer should not be missed: beautiful presentation, perfect taste. The fish and chips are a favorite and the new pasta dish is good. Let's not forget the memory-of-childhood dessert: chocolate pudding. Pleasant dining combined with welcoming and efficient staff.

Food and service were solid! Wasn't rushed to order which made the date much more enjoyable and relaxing. Also was surprised by some cool wine options... enjoyed our wine very much 🍷👍 Only downside was the lack of more creative fish entrees that I remember from the uptown location (the Tuna dish we ordered was great!). But the other options were more generic (lobster roll, fish tacos, whole branzino) than what I remember from an interesting seafood focused place. Still a great time!!

We really enjoyed our night at the mermaid in. Great food , music, and overall ambience. The only down side was the service could have been a little better, thankfully we were content in catching up so it didn’t not bother us too much.

This wasn't my first time at the Mermaid Inn but it was a particularly enjoyable experience thus, I must give it accolades. The Clam Chowder is DIVINE! I can't believe I hadn't had it before. Our server, Billy, was most accommodating and we had a wonderful anniversary dinner. I will obviously be back many times.

Also worth noting, the happy hour is quite a deal and 100% checking out.

We have eaten in the East Village Mermaid Inn ( the best of the 3) for many years. This time was the best ever! Everything was fabulous: the drinks, the octopus app, the pasta, the fish/chips (amazing!) plus the service ( host staff and wait and bus staff). Kudos to all!

We came for the happy hour $1 Oysters - til 7:00 PM. We stayed for dinner and feasted on the best fish tacos I've ever had! We also had the whole Bronzino, and it was terrific. All served in the back yard garden on a warm late summer night. Was just perfect!

We've always had a great experience at Mermaid Inn. This last visit the service was especially accommodating because we were stuck in traffic, yet they were willing to seat the couple we were meeting prior to our arrival (so many restaurants require all parties to be there before seating). They even let them order separately, which was really accommodating.
Food and atmosphere great, as always.
One of favorite places in NYC.
