What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
7.7

A staple in the Infatuation playbook since back in 2003 when we were standing in line outside of terrible Manhattan night clubs and listening to nothing but Brand New and 50 Cent. The fish here is always fresh and fantastic, and the lobster roll is very solid.

Ratings 7.5-8.0:These are restaurants that are reliable, tasty, and particularly good for whatever we have deemed them “Perfect For.” Hit up a 7.7 for Date Night with confidence, as long as you don’t need the restaurant to be the most interesting thing that happens that night.

Very cute location, though I prefer the upper west location more.
The food was tasty, but wasn't as good as I was expecting. The drinks were delicious.

Terrific service and food. We were there on Monday which has a special all evening happy hour menu and feasted on raw oysters clams and a variety of appetizers. The servers were also extremely friendly. Better than even expected.

As everyone says, great happy hour. An off the menu special of steel head trout was delicious. We will return as always.

It was a Sunday night, and a birthday. They made it quite special with a great table and (later) a complimentary chocolate dessert. As always, oysters were spectacular (both the happy hour ones and the petites). Lobsterpallooza was also a hit. I recommend the Gruner by the glass. Only sad note was that they were out of the tuna ceviche.

Went there for their happy hour and wasn't disappointed. The clams, oysters and lobster roll were all so good and we tried almost everything on the happy hour menu. Drinks and service were great too. Loved our waitress. Would definitely come back here in the summer to sit in the outdoor area.

Mermaid Inn is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. They have an amazing happy hour deal. The lobster roll is the best part of the menu and that is hard to say considering everything I have tasted is awesome.

We went for the happy hour and had a few appetizers and drinks. The calamari and oysters were very good. The salmon tartare was very good but small and pricey. Service was excellent and waitress was extremely nice.

A bit crowded and noisy . Location is not too big and they want to seat a lot of people, so it is tight and cramped. Food is really good though. Happy hours are great value.

The food was excellent and the service was great too. It was quite warm in the restaurant that evening, and a little cramped. The noise level was pretty loud. But the food and the experience overall was excellent. Lee, your manager, was an awesome host!!

Came here for Valentine’s Day dinner. The staff is so friendly and the food is amazing. Had the clam chowder and the mussels for appetizers. The chowder was nice and thick. Mussels were spiced nicely, different but tasty. Come here for a date night, highly recommend!

I’ve been going here for 15+ years, and I don’t remember being served just a plate full of fish with no sides, but maybe that was because we always ordered the sides in advance! Anyway, once we got the sides, the meal was impeccable, as always! The fish was amazing (I got the bran IMO with some sort of olive tapenade topping), my husband got the Lobster salad which was amazing, and we got the Brussels sprouts as a side which were really incredible! We started with a lot of oysters, yum!

Always have a fantastic - and delicious - time! My out of town guests were blown away by the service, ambiance, quality, and value. "I don't know if I will ever have oysters as incredible as these again." (She had the Naked Cowboys!) Thanks so much!

Very nice little restaurant in an area of so many along Second Ave. Food was presented very nice and it was delicious. The service was good and my wife has allergies, is a vegetarian and on a crazy diet and they were able to take care of her requirements.

We asked for a table in the back room which is quieter than those in the front of the restaurant. The ambience was really lovely, soft candlelight and space between tables. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We ate Naked Cowboy and Ziggy Stardust oysters. Both delicious. I had lobster roll and my husband had the branzino. Great meal, nice bottle of wine. We’ll be back next time we visit New York.

We had a delightful experience at The Mermaid! From the moment we entered the restaurant until leaving we were treated with great hospitality. The oyster selection was perfect. We enjoyed the warm and cozy ambiance, it felt like a nautical dinner by candlelight. To Happy Hour special, both food and drinks were a nice bonus as well. Overall, this was a excellent new dining experience.

We went to the Mermaid Inn for a birthday celebration, and we absolutely loved it. From the welcoming happy hour (on a Saturday!) with great drinks and apps, to the delicious entrees, to the very friendly and professional service, to the reasonable noise levels - everything was great. Also appreciated the complimentary chocolate pudding with a birthday candle :) And the atmosphere was perfect - cozy and warm, reminiscent of Cape Cod, a lovely place to be on a cold winter's night.

Place is nice enough. Food was delicious especially lobster roll. The side dishes and apps were way too small portions. Glass of wine starts at $13. Mine was $18 .
Very tight tables , no coat check so I had to put my coat on the chair. Little too tight and noisy for me , not sure if I will go back .
