The Melting Pot - Towson Ratings and Reviews
I took my boyfriend and his mother here to celebrate their birthdays and figured it would be a really cool dining experience. The meal you cook yourself in a fondue pot and all of the ingredients are very fresh. The dinner was amazing, however our server lacked time management and was not very attentive to our needs and forgot multiple things down to just asking for lemon for our waters. However, one of the hostess/managers Caroline apologized on behalf of the poor service and made sure we got our food in a timely manner. At the end we got the check and were completely astonished that she cut the check in half. On our way out we thanked her so much for saving the night and making my boyfriend and his mother’s birthday one to remember. Definitely recommend coming here.
Go for the experience more than the food. Service was a little slow and while the experience overall was fine, we felt rushed to cook our food and eat it quickly before the next course came out rather than getting to more fully enjoy both cooking and eating.
Our waitress Sydney was great, she was super nice and explained the whole cooking and ingredient process thoroughly! We went for our anniversary and she remembered later in the night and got us an anniversary plate with our dessert. The food was excellent as always and it was a fun experience. I can’t wait to go back again!
Went with a good friend after a movie, we have been to this location before, and as usual it was fantastic. The service is always friendly and attentive. We had recently had a disappointing experience at the Columbia location, and we decided that we would only go to the Towson one, and we were very glad to find that Towson's standards of service and food is still the best. We did the Towson Big Night Out menu, with a couple substitutions, and it was great! Our server was wonderful, a very attentive and friendly server, was so nice about bringing us extra items. All of the staff appear to be Towson University students, and we have never had a bad experience at this location, the staff is always very friendly and caring. Overall a great experience, can't wait to come back!
Our waitress was extremely friendly and very informative.( I wish I could remember her name but I do know she graduated recently and was studying sign language) which we thought was very cool! She brought our son a congratulations plate because we were celebrating a great report card which was a nice touch. The food was amazing and although we had been before, this was the first time our son had been and it is now his favorite restaurant and wants to come back soon ! Such a great time and food and service was exceptional- we had the 4 course meal . Our favorite was probably the teriyaki steak and wild mushroom sachetti. Highly recommend the Coq Au Vin broth as well.
This was our girls night out dinner. We enjoy coming to The Melting Pot as you are not rushed and we can enjoy the meal and time spent together in conversation. Our server, Brittany was amazing. Brittany took the time with one first timer and really enjoyed sharing information with us.
First time there so did the 4 course with wine pairing. Everything was good and gave me and my friend time to have a nice long conversation without feeling rushed. It will take some time if you do the 4 course. Next time I will probably just do the cheese and dessert, with wine of course!
the food was great , the service not so much . we started out ok , but we needed things we didn't get like iced tea , water and green goddess . then we were left sitting waiting for our dessert and someone other then our waitress came didn't say a word . he just dropped the cookie crumbs in and left . I had to finish stirring . this was the second time in a row we had poor service . if I had been there only 2 times I would never go back ! the server makes all the difference when dining at The Melting Pot . I am not sure we will go back . then someone else brought us the check , I felt like we were imposing !
We went there to celebrate my birthday and when I reserved the table we specifically mentioned about the birthday. The other tables have balloons and we did not. My daughter was a little upset by that. We enjoyed the fondue except the cheese, because it is too garlicky. I remember the last time we went there, the server ask if we want the garlic or not before she poured it over the beer for the cheese fondue. But this time before we can ask the server he already pour it over the mixture. It's not his fault, we could ask him ahead of time. When we arrive the front was not very accommodating, unlike other restaurants you would think front desk will have a smile for the guest but she wasn't. The meal was good. We ordered the 4 course meal. I like the california salad, the french quarter was good, I like the cajun flavor, my daughter like the sausage, my husband had the steak lovers and he seems to like it too. The classic chocolate is my favorite I had it the last time we were here and still get it this time. The server Ryan was very nice. He mentioned about a candle over the cake but he said he cannot find one.
This was our first time there but Will did a great job describing what happens and what choices we needed to make. He was entertaining too. Food was great and even though we were stuffed, when it was time for chocolate...we managed! Tops for birthday dinners for my daughter.
Long time customer, usually the service is top notch. Was sub-par on this visit, server kept forgetting to bring items that maybe casuals would not have known were missing. Food was great. This one visit would not deter future visits unless this lower level of service becomes the norm.
Another outstanding dinner to celebrate my birthday and New Year's Eve. Outstanding service. Perfect four-course dinner with several selections to choose from. The unexpected shrimp appetizer for all the guests was delicious. And the champagne flute glass gift at the end of dinner was a wonderful surprise. Not to mention the chocolate covered strawberry gift for my birthday. I just love this place!
This was my first time at The Melting Pot, even though I have lived nearby the restaurant for years. My husband and I went as a celebration. The service was excellent; our server was very attentive (the perfect amount), and everyone we came into contact with was welcoming and friendly. The decor is a bit outdated (think grouted/tiled tabletops), but it was cozy nevertheless. We ordered the four course experience, which included a cheese fondue, side salad, entree, and dessert fondue.
The food was OK. Honestly I wasn't wowed, and I am no gourmet foodie by any means. It always seemed like an upscale restaurant to me, and I expected a lot more. We got the Wisconsin cheddar fondue, and it was somewhat bland and lacked flavor. Salad was tasty and appropriately sized. What I didn't realize prior, was that you actually cooked your own entree food in a broth. The server instructed us how long to cook meat vs. seafood vs. veggies, but it seemed to take longer than she said. We got the Coq au Vin broth, and I wasn't crazy about the flavor; it was more earthy than I expected. Perhaps a different broth would change the experience. The array of sauces they provided helped make up for it.
It was somewhat of a novelty to cook your own food, and forces you to slow down and enjoy the meal; however, it was hard to keep track of the cooking times, and we were so focused on cooking that we couldn't have much of conversation. You get two skewers, so you can only cook two pieces at a time, and it was difficult to remember how long they had been in the broth - we had to use the timers on our phones!! The dessert fondue (dark chocolate/marshmallow creme/ oreo cookies) was delicious.
I do think it is normally a quieter restaurant, but we had a group of 8 college girls who were very loud a couple booths down. But they were clearly having fun, and I was there not too many years ago, so we didn't say anything :)
The manager Caroline was great! My server was not to attentive and always had excuse to why he was just coming. He apparently was too busy but yet the waitress for the other table was on point with everything for her guest. Caroline made up for where he lacked in the end. Would definitely return just don't want him to serve me.
We went for a date night and specified that it was a date night, yet and still we were placed next to two different kids birthday parties. When asked to move, we were moved but only a couple booths over where the noise level was still exceptionally loud. Very disappointed with this visit but our server made up for a lot of it.
My wife and I had a tradition going that we would have a nice meal (without the kids) every year around the holidays. After a couple years of not having the opportunity, we decided to visit the Melting Pot in Towson. We have been to Melting Pot a few times before but this was the first visit to the location in Towson. This is also my first visit to Melting Pot since I had to adopt a gluten-free diet over 4 years ago.
The staff were very inviting and helpful. I suffer from gluten intolerance and have to eat gluten free to avoid getting sick. The waitress was extremely helpful explaining the options and the menu was clearly labeled. In many cases, certain items were gluten free without any modifications required. In some other cases, items could be switched out for items are safe for me to eat.
One of the primary considerations if you are eating gluten-free (due to allergy/sensitivity) some decisions have to made for the entire table. The nice thing with Melting Pot is there is still plenty of choices available so my wife and I did not have to be restricted to a single option which is a common frustration when we eat out with very limited options to choose from.
We had a very delicious meal. The GF bread which we shared was very good. My wife (who still eats gluten-based bread) mentioned the bread was very good and you could not tell it was GF. Most GF breads have a distinctive texture and tend to be drier. Their bread was very good. I also enjoyed the GF cake and brownies for dessert. Both were delicious and had a good texture.
While we do not eat at Melting Pot, we will definitely be back to this location in the future due to great food, great ambiance and fantastic service.
