The Melting Pot - Thousand Oaks Ratings and Reviews
the food was okay, the dipping was fun, the price isn't worth either.
Considering there is no Chef preparing the entrees because the patron does it themselves not much to justify pricey menu AT ALL. Staff was friendly but a bit on the slow side, atmosphere was good, but I would go to a nice restaurant. The cost will be about the same and you won't have to cook yourself. Once is enough thank you very much.
I had visited The Melting Pot at a different location once before and had such a great experience. I was happy to learn that there was a location near my home. I took my family for New Years' Eve dinner. I was not impressed with this location, the set menu for the holiday and the raised pricing due to the holiday. This particular location was not a very nice restaurant and I was highly disappointed. I actually felt highly remorseful about what I spent on dinner this evening. We like to eat out and do choose nice places so we're not afraid to spend money on a nice dinner. This did not match my expectations.
The food is high quality. We ordered the 4 course "Big Night Out" meal for 2. But even though we cooked our own food right in front of us it took way too long for them to bring it out.
We had a small table in a private corner and it was cold, and I was wearing a jacket, and they couldn't do anything to control it. Server was going through the motions.
Although our server Jeff was friendly and knowledgeable, when I paid cash for our meal and asked for the change, he gave me back ALL my money back (only broke the $5.00 bill down) and due to being in a deep conversation, I didn’t pay attention to what he brought back to the table (I just put it in my purse) then we left and ended up being called and having to put it on my credit card. Other than that, the food was good, but there was food (in differect areas of the restaurant) on the floor and our table was sticky. Overall not the best experience for 2 people who paid $132.76 to have a nice dinner while on vacation.
Went for our One month wedding anniversary. Made the reservation through open table app. When asked if there was any special requests through the website I asked for a private/semi private table and to have a bottle of wine at the table when we got there. No bottle of wine when we arrived and no mention of wedding anniversary! After seated we waiting 30 mins for someone to take our drink order and another 15 mins to receive them. And for a Tuesday night right at 5pm when they opened that was unacceptable! Food was great as always just waited a long time to get started.
The Melting Pot is such a fun place to go, if you can afford it. Be aware that everyone at the table must agree on the cheese, the cooking style and the chocolate, as there is only one fondue pot at the table (more at the long group tables.) The meat and produce are all very fresh, and the staff will give you lots of advise on cooking time, and what sauce goes best with each meat/veggie. Plan for at least two hours for a full four course meal.
I love the cheese fondue. Had a salad that was very good. The chocolate fondue was too sweet for me. We got chocolate covered strawberries to take home. It is a bit pricey but it is definitely a fun thing to do for special occasion. Next time I will just do the cheese fondue and salad only.
Service level has definitely changed since I went years ago. The first 5 years it opened, servers were dressed like you’d see at a 4/5 star restaurant and they would spend a good amount of time going over the menu, talking about what pairs nicely with what, etc. A lot has changed. Our server was really nice and I have nothing against him but I felt like I was having my order taken at Applebee’s. The server was dressed in jeans, and unironed short sleeve button down— no uniformity in server dress (if they were going for a more casual look/theme) and dirty tennis shoes. This wouldn’t be a big deal if it wasn’t a minimum $100/couple type restaurant. Server threw our plates and silverware down very quickly and loudly (wasn’t angry, just sloppily).Food was fine, but it was weird being charged what we were for such a casual type environment. Probably not coming back unfortunately.
Since our usual Melting Pot experience in Pasadena closed, we were initially very saddened to think that the only other location near us was almost 2 hours away in Thousand Oaks (Here's hoping a new one opens up soon that's closer). However, our love for the food and experience makes the trip worth the distance. The bartender made a virgin Spicy Mule when it's not a regular option for that particular drink and it was phenomenal. The extra step for its patrons is a refreshing feeling while frequenting a restaurant. We are Melting Pot enthusiasts through and through. Thanks again T.O. Melting Pot. Cheers!
The Melting Pot was great. We took our daughter for her 17th birthday and had fantastic time. The food was tasty and the service was excellent. It was nice to enjoy the different courses at a nice pace not hurried. The Melting Pot was the perfect choice for a birthday dinner!
This was my first visit to The Melting Pot. Service was good. Experience was fun. The cheese foundue was great and the dessert was fantastic. The meat was just OK. Don't know what I expected, but boiling your meat in flavored water was not it. Didn't taste all that good and it was odd. Anyhow, get the fondue, the salad and the dessert. All good. Expect to pay a lot. Go with a good attitude and have a good time.
We'd been to another Melting Pot and we're underwhelmed with our experience. Our waiter kept forgetting our order, rambling on. The cheese which he made at the table had so much nutmeg dumped in it was nearly inedible. The meat was overpriced for the portion size. None of it was remarkable and given the cost for the experience, we'd have rather gone somewhere else.
First time to the Thousand oaks location. We had a lovely birthday for my son. It is expensive, five of us split four dinners and ordered the extra salad. We had plenty to eat, but we did eat it all! Desert is amazing, I highly recommend both a white and a dark chocolate.
I love coming to the Melting Pot with friends I haven't seen in awhile because you have TIME to talk and catch up while you enjoy your super yummy fondue! I love the cheese course, I love the protein course, and the best part is always DESSERT. The drinks are great, too!
The service here was atrocious. We arrived 20 minutes early for our reservation and were greeted in the lobby with a stern "can we help you" as if we were interrupting people who clearly had better things to do. We were the only people in the lobby at the time and stated that was fine, we would come back at our reservation time and sat outside. When we returned, the host was listening to music with her headphones, and rather than greet us, abruptly pulled the headphones out. When I made an offhand remark about us not meaning to disturb her, she made a remark about knowing she shouldn't be doing what she was. We were sat at a table in the back of the restaurant. The space between the wall and the table was loaded with straw wrappers, dirt, food particles, etc. It was filthy, but I chose to ignore it because we were busy waiting to be greeted by anyone for almost 25 minutes. As this was our anniversary dinner, and a novelty, we decided to stick it out. Our server arrived at the 30 minute mark, sweaty, admitting he was very busy, and could he get our drinks going? We ordered our drinks, two waters and two beers and made a quick decision on the cheese course, not knowing when our server would return. He came back with two waters and our cheese. It would be another 15 minutes and having to remind him of our drinks twice, before he finally showed up with them. The manager (I assume) was filling our waters the second time we asked, and she had our beers comped off the check. At this point, our server returned to with salads and told us that we were his last table, and so we would see a lot of him! "Yay." We did not. He occasionally popped in after long absences. Just how bad the service was almost became comical to my husband and I and we agreed that in the future we would look back on how bad the service was at our first anniversary dinner with a fond memory of it being an adventure. Of course in the moment it wasn't so funny. On the bright side, our food was delicious
