The Melting Pot - Syracuse Ratings and Reviews
We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation, and were sat within a couple minutes. They were prompt coming to the table. However, after we received water, no one came back to our table. After about 20 minutes, I went to find someone to figure out what was going on. The server that I found showed up a couple minutes later explaining she didn’t know who was supposed to take care of us but she would. We ordered cheese fondue, salads, and 2 drinks. Another 10 minutes passed and finally she came back with our drinks, then with the cheese. So much time had passed that my boyfriend and I were uncomfortably hungry, and I had a headache. We started eating and our server checked in on us again. I went really craving cheese and chocolate fondue, but by the time that we ate and she brought the dessert menu, I still felt sick. I didn’t even drink any of the sangria that I ordered. We ended up waiting another 10 minutes for her to come back after she dropped off the dessert menu. This was surprising because I’m a big fan of Melting Pot, but this was a disappointing visit. The manager did address the situation with the waitress before we left. The restaurant was not that busy either and it was late for a Saturday. I’m not sure what happened, but it seems we slipped through the cracks...
We came in for a fun family night out!
The staff was great! They sat us in an area where we could be a little nosier and not disrupt other diners. Also, they showed us their coat closet so we didn’t have to sit on our fluffy, winter coats, scarves and hats.
Our server was super personable and very attentive. There was 6 of us, so we were a little more high maintenance than some of her other tables.
Great experience! We will definitely be back!
Went for an anniversary and the food was phenomenal! After our entree, the waitress brought out a plate written “happy 4th anniversary!” The plate was so cute o wanted to take it home! We also got champagne with fresh strawberries in it. Great place for special occasions as such.
Our waitress was fine however her assistant not so much. I was always told if you want more dipping items for the appetizers or desserts just ask. My grandsons had plenty of chocolate left. We ordere there pots for two adults two children. When asked for more dipping items. Was told can only have 3 choices. One each pot. Well we got the smallest amount ever. Definitely wasted chocolate.
We tried this restaurant for this first time for my birthday dinner. We arrived at 6:30,our scheduled reservation time, were seated immediately and the menu was explained by the hostess. By 7:00pm, we still did not have any over to take our drink order even though another table that was sat after us did. We left. On our way out, the hostess was sitting at a pub table and a waitress was sitting at another with her feet up, both on laptops. They both said “have a great night and come again.” They didn’t even realize we did not eat. Or drink anything. I would never recommend this place.
Our server NY/Jahlah was very pleasant. She made us feel welcome but didn't linger. The restaurant gave us a glass of champagne and a very creative note to celebrate our anniversary.
Our only issue was that we sat at the table before our server came to the table.
I honestly had higher expectations for The Melting Pot. While there was an amazing selection of wines, beers, and mixed cocktails, the food menu was confusing, and the method of cooking your meat at the table kind of ruined the whole dining out experience. Our server, Chris, was fantastic with helping us figure out how everything works, and had a great sense of humor and personality. Jason, the server at an adjacent table, was also fantastic with a great sense of humor. We won’t be returning to MP, but I’m sure it’s fun for some people. Great job to the whole wait staff—they get 2 thumbs up!
It's not often that I take the time to write restaurant reviews, but I would feel guilty if someone else's night was also ruined by this place. The. WORST. Service. I have ever experienced, literally in my life. Our server showed up after we had already been seated 15 minutes, no drinks, forks, or anything on the table.
When he finally showed up, he made uncomfortable and creepy conversation, followed by disappearances of 15-20 mins at a time (yes, we started timing it). After 40 mins, our first course finally arrived, which was improperly prepared (adding way too much beer to the cheese so it was just watery liquid instead of fondue). When we finally got it, we were unable to eat it because we still had not been given fondue forks or napkins, which took 8 minutes for him to go get after we tracked him down and asked for them for the SECOND time.
I'll skip the details on the salad because its irrelevant other than the time it took to arrive. The cooking broth arrived and he turned it on, then leaving to let it "heat up." 20 minutes later (it had been boiling over 15 mins) he returned to add wine to what was now very little broth because it had mostly boiled away. So we essentially cooked our food in wine. And the food? It was excellent meat/seafood, one we got the correct entree after returning the incorrect one that had been brought out to us. When I said I thought I had been given the wrong entree, he simply said "yup, you sure did" and took it away without so much as an apology. I watched my date cook her food til I received mine 10 minutes later. We did at least get our water glasses filled once, after flagging him down to do so.
Our reservation was at 7:15 and we left after 10pm. I understand this is a longer dinner experience since its fondue, but this was like being on a hidden camera show where you are tested to see how much you can take before cursing a guy out. We basically paid over $100 to have a hilariously pathetic dinner date. BEWARE.
Was really excited to try the Melting Pot but we were disappointed with the food and service. For the price we paid we were underwhelmed. We thought seasonal vegetables and fruits would be more than a few baby carrots, small pieces of celery, and a few slices of apples. Sadly, the whole experience was a let down and we will not be returning.
This was a fabulous evening! Was there on a girls' shopping and this was a very welcome end to a day of shopping. The service was excellent (thanks Jason!), the ambiance was wonderful and the food was fantastic. This was my second time at a Melting Pot and I will definitely be back!
I can overlook the cost, given that the service and ambiance is what makes this an experience -- you are cooking your own food, after all. On my last two visits the service has been fair to poor. Slow, items ordered missed and an overall lack of attention to detail. I fear I will not be back -- two strikes and and this place is off my list.
My wife and I love the Melting Pot; it's one of our favorite places for a date night. This is not a family restaurant and is not very kid-friendly; the food is cooked on the table with a hot burner and hot fondue, and is probably not appropriate for children. But for an adults' night out with friends or a romantic evening for two it's perfect. It's not exactly cheap if you go for the full four-course meal but there are menu options that still provide you with good food at a lower cost. The experience is probably not for everyone; there is a bit of a learning curve involved for your first time, as there are several different types of fondue and cooking styles that you can order. But the staff is very enthusiastic and helpful and very good at answering your questions, and once you get going it's pretty easy. Many of the cheese fondues are excellent; my wife and I like both the spinach artichoke and the loaded cheese and potato. You also really have to try the desserts, as some of the chocolate fondues are excellent.
This is not an experience for everyone; if you don't want to dip your food into a fondue pot or sit and wait while your meat, seafood or vegetables cook in a seasoned fondue broth (which only takes a minute or two per item of food -- maybe a little longer for the veggies) then maybe don't try it. But the place has a very intimate feel and the food is actually very good and the process is fun once you get used to it.
The Melting Pot is a fondu restaurant where you can cook your own meal right at your table. There are four courses, cheese fondu as an appetizer, salad, broth or oil fondu for the entrees, and chocolate fondu for dessert (you do not have to have them all). This can take anywhere from one to three hours so don't go if you are in a time crunch! It is also great to go with about 4-6 people to share the experience. We had a very fun experience! Our server was very nice and accommodating. He even brought me a birthday dessert plate!
We go occasionally for special events. Food was delicious but I didnt care for the duck in pacific rim entre. We had a trainee as a server and dessert had to be redone. Very pleasant and attentave staff, manager stopped at table before dessert which was nice.
We went in for the Sunday two can dine for $59 and left almost three hours later. Having been to the Melting Pot before, I know it's a "dining experience" and not just dinner, so it does take longer. The restaurant wasn't crowded and it seemed to take forever for each course to arrive. The food was all good, but the chicken as part of the entree was just "ok." We probably wouldn't go back just because of the wait and by the end of the meal we were tired and full just from sitting for so long.
Our food and service while dining were both excellent. The only issue was after leaving we got a phone call saying that our server didn't collect payment from us. We had paid her directly with a $100 bill, she brought back $35 ish in change, and we left a $15 tip. Not sure what the issue was or if there was something shady going on but it was definitely an unsettling experience.
After being sat at our table it took 45 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The cheese course was delicious. Our salad was delivered with a swarm of fruit flies. The salads were remade and brought back to the table. The rest of the meal was good. After complaining about our drinks taking so long the manager and waitress were attentive, but it seems the quality of service has really gone down. The fruit fly issue was really gross. This was our second bad experience there in a row and I don't think we'll be back.
We really love the melting pot. We've been many times. This time was slightly more disappointing because we felt very rushed. They kept overlapping food and I'm not used to that at the melting pot. The other thing was tables around us were staying dirty for a while and when the manager would clean it off, he put everything on a tray and left it right behind my husband on a gray stand. It was weird.
On the plus side, the hostess was kind enough to give us a 2-burner table. I was pretty thankful for that. 😁 one of our servers was very delightful. She was smiley and talkative. The other didn't seem to want to be there. The food, as always, was delicious.
To be fair, we're used to The Melting Pot Littleton, CO. It has a more upscale vibe and better ambiance. We live further North than Syracuse now (Ft. Drum) and wanted to celebrate some big events! We naturally thought Melting Pot would be great! We had no idea this one was tiny. And in a mall. People were not dressed up. Small children were screeching at the table next to ours (not the restaurant's fault, but I would never bring an 8 month old out at 8 pm. Very distracting.) This did not seem like a special occasion venue. We were basically sat in the bar, with a TV over my husband's shoulder. (even though reservations denoted several special occasions - birthday, annniversary, promotion.) The hostess didn't even see us for several minutes as she was bent over the podium focused on another task. Our server seemed very new, but was nice and very accomodating. (the new sriracha sauce? blah. We requested the angry cocktail sauce for our shrimp.) It was a long drive there, and not quite what we were expecting. We won't be headed back anytime soon.
Food was good but the service time was way too slow. We arrived just before 5. It was almost 7 by the time we were presented with a dessert menu. Needless to say, we did not stay for dessert. The price us also very high for what you get. Given the variety of restaurants available in Destiny USA, I certainly will not be back, and I would not recommend for anything other than a special occasion!
