Its OK. It's a fun novelty but I feel like it's way too much money for food that is moderate and you cook yourself. $50/head with no drinks can really got you a lot more at a host of other local somerville restaurants. I guess you're paying for the experience, which is unique, but it's something I would feel better about if it cost 40% less.
It was a big disappointment; ordered two different bottles of wine that were in the menu and they didn’t have, brought meat to my vegetarian daughter,
Service was terrible and the food was absolutely disgusting. Our waiter did not make our cheese right and he was rushing due to a huge party. We were there for two hours and there was no one in the place to warrant him to rush. Just a very bad first time experience.
It was too hot and muggy inside. And server didn’t really help.
My server was very nice. Others (and the host that evening), not so much. One server was walking around cursing, another sounded as though he were giving his customers an attitude (although in fairness, perhaps his customers were being rude as well). Host was running around with still other servers, yelling to bus tables the whole time we were there.
All this aside, the main courses were fine, but the first cheese course was pretty bad… not made like I am used to having it at other Melting Pot locations. Came out more like a soup, I had to request additional cheese be added. All in all, I will not be back.
Food is amazing well worth the money and a great experience it is just a little hot and humid due to all the burners so dress light. Otherwise wonderful experience you really get a lot of food for your money
I'm almost reluctant to share this review as I don't want this to be a poor reflection on our waitress who did a very good job waiting on us. She was very polite, professional, great personality, very attentive when she came to the table and a very hard worker.
The atmosphere, food and overall experience was good but not great as I experienced on my first time there in December, 2017. For a Saturday night the restaurant was very busy (which I expected it would be) We were seated and had to wait around 25 minutes before someone came to our table. Other groups were seated after us and were being served before we were. Perhaps a little short on help. We are not a complaining bunch so we waited patiently to be served. As a result of this, we sat through courses longer than expected. We chose the oil as our cooking method and was informed that the restaurant ran out of Tempura batter. Also, we were informed that since we were a party of only 4 people we could only chose one cooking method. I personally don't eat fried food and thought I would be able to chose another option. We also had to adjust the temperature on the cooker a number of times so as to not get splattered with oil while trying to cook our food. We sat at a table with a broken cooker as well. The separating wall next to our table was not secure and the waitress leaned on the wall and it literally almost shifted of the ledge.
This was my 2nd time there and my mom and sons (ages 24-29) first time. My oldest son travelled from Delaware to enjoy an evening out at dinner. We all agreed that we would have dinner at the Melting Pot again. We just all felt that at $209 for dinner we were expecting a more enjoyable experience.
Service was excellent. Attentive and speedy. Food was very good. We really enjoyed ourselves.
Service was slow, took 20 min to sit down with reservations. Not good value for money
Food was very blan. Spent 200.00 for. Valentines night. Felt like we were getting rushed out. Forgot our wine during dessert. Only good thing was desert.
Extremely bad waiter. We had ordered two four course meal and a kids meal. Didn't bring two cheese fondues or two choc fondues, had to argue about it. Similarly, didn't bring any bread or chips for the cheese fondue so had to ask for it and waiter behaved as if he was doing a favor. Money totally wasted and spoiled a special day...totally not worth going to this location. Over all Melting Pot is a great place but not Somerville location.
I always love coming here for special occasions. It’s a really treat. I also love how it’s a fun experience and different from other restaurants.
We've always enjoyed the Melting Pot at various locations. This location seems a bit outdated in its decor, and our server must have been inexperienced because he had to ask another employee a few of our questions about the menu. Otherwise, he was accommodating to us having two young children.
It was an excellent experience. The special half lasagna is definitely amazing.
Love the melting pot. Cheese and chocolate were great. Service was poor. Made reservation via OpenTable yet we had to wait over 30min to be seated. Host and hostess were disorganized and harried. Table was wiped quickly no utensils/napkins. Had to ask twice and silver ware was put in a heap on the table. I understand being busy but overall poor poor service esp for the ever increasing prices and declining portion sizes. Will not be going back to this melting pot again
First and last time ever eating at this location. Horrible service, completely understaffed, and such a negative atmosphere. Made a reservation for 7:30PM did not get seated until 8:00PM. The server was not knowledgeable of the menu and the dessert ordered was not presentable and distasteful.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. The place was very busy. The staff was running around like crazy, but managed it all very well. We loved the experience! Our server was excellent and our food was great! It made for a fun date on a rainy Saturday night.
Fondue is always good and we loved it.
Service was subpar: very slow and with some minor mistakes such as no water in the pot which delayed our dinner.
The venue was very different from the many Melting Pots I have visited. In Somerville our table was in a narrow corridor, and it was challenging for wait staff to service us as other clients tried to pass behind them. The front door would often be left open which would bring in a freezing wind gust of 15 degrees.
Parking was an issue on Main St, especially because of the cold. Walking 3-5 blocks was not fun.
Slow service, very expensive for what you get, and it is dirty and dated. Our silverware was dirty. Will not go back.
This was a fun birthday celebration for a party of six. We chose the four course option. Would have liked to have had 3 pots for dipping as opposed to 2. I felt it was a little pricey for the amount of food you get for the main course. On the up side the Birthday girl was happy and fun was had by all.
Did not meet my expectations. I expected ambiance and food offerings to be better. Price was very high for the amount of food we receive. The plates and utensils old.
Terrible service. Clearly under staffed, took one and a half hour for the entree to even show up. Dessert too another hour.
We had so much fun celebrating with The Melting Pot. It was the perfect amount of food and the ambiance was stupendous. We will definitely be back for the next special occasion!
I have been to your location many times and was always happy to come back but this time was different. The service was just ok, portions of fondue was minimal, the filet minion was very chewy and the dessert to was minimal.Usually when I leave i am not hungry at all. This time I left not stuffed. Your restaurant is by no means cheap and my daughter was treating me and I felt not satisfied.
Food and service was good but there were items not available.
Had an 8:00 reservation. Got there for our reservation and the hostess told us it would be 1/2 hour wait. I told her that we had a reservation and she said that they were backed up. She did not even apologize. We ended up leaving. Honestly, it looked a little dirty. Would have given 0 stars if I could.
Was great food and employees! One thing is it was a little loud and busy. The seating was nice but the one in Atlantic City had private booths which was so nice for conversation/
The wait time excessive. Very over priced for small portion of the main food and have to cook it ourselves.
The only thing worth dining for is for the fondue cheeses and deserts. I would not reccinend dinner
The bill was over $200 and only 3 entrees were ordered. No kids menus Defining not kid friendly as far as dinner Should have more options.
I would not even take a date there
I went with a friend for dinner. We try to go to a different restaurant once a month, It was probably more than we wanted to spend, but she had never been there and wanted to try it. The food is good and fondue is a fun meal.
Excellent food. Great about gluten free options! Will definitively be going back!
Food was fine, waitress was nice, but service was ridiculously slow. Only 2 waitstaff working in entire restaurant for many tables. As waitstaff prepares appetizers at table, everything was excruciatingly slow. Been there many times, but this time makes me question if I’ll return. Very poor job by management trying to save $ by having less employees.
Don't go on holidays. And make sure you ask for all your courses
Took my mother and mother in law to dinner for Christmas. We enjoyed our meal
Used to go to the Melting Pot in Red Bank before it closed down. Loved it there. Somerville location was very underwhelming, starting with the ripped up seating in our booth. We will not be going back.
Being born and raised in the restaurant industry as well as my husband being an executive chef, I really hate to knock a restaurant but this has to be one of the worst experiences we've ever had at a restaurant.
First off, the ambiance is not what I pictured at all. Very dull and we were sat at one of the 2 person tables facing this old dingy wall. We couldn't see anyone else. No one could see us. But not romantically secluded. Just creepy. Anyways... course 1: the cheese. Took forever to melt. The bread they served with it were hard as a rock (pretty sure they used the same ones for croutons) and the vegetables looked old and dry... Course 2: house salad. Drenched in dressing... course 3: the raw meat you now have to cook yourself. Okay so we didn't know this prior to going nor did our waiter say it beforehand when we explained it was our 1st time. I am pregnant so everything I eat must be fully cooked and I did state that I was pregnant and had to be very careful of what I ate. They give you one bowl for the serving sauce to share with the table. However I had shrimp and my husband is allergic so we had to wait for him to cook his meal for 5 minutes than for me to cook my meal. Another 5 minutes. I was so over it by then I barely ate. And plus I was disgusted and petrified I would get sick. My only saving grace was that I was there with my husband who knew everything was thoroughly cooked. Course 4: chocolate fondue with desserts. This was okay..no real complaints. Our server I forgot his name. He was very nice and the only one working the entire place (although it was kind of empty) but service was a tad slow. We were there for 2 hours.. we came here on a $250 gift card and it was my husband's birthday. We only spent about 100 of the gift card and I plan on giving the rest away because I will never go back here.
Good food. Service was great!! Can't wait to go back!!
Our waiter was bizarre, and that’s putting it mildly. He was extremely loud and cursed. We all thought he was drunk or High. Also we were there about 2 hours before getting food. We were there almost 4 hours total. It was the strangest dining experience of my life. I love the melting pot, just not this particular location.
The Cheese and the chocolate fondue were very good but overall price was way too much for what you received. Server was nice but very slow. There should be fans over each table for the steam. We saw several spider webs and menus were sticky.
It was a great experience from our waiter and my girlfriends first time. Unfortunely we only had 10 mins to enjoy it before rowdy crowds got seated behind us and we have to physically scream to have conversation. She loved the experience I frequent melting pot but I’m rethinking it due to dropping 100$ on an evening just to scream and hear the waiter behind us served alcoholic to minors.
It was very loud, there were a lot of teenagers running around and yelling. This location also smelled kind of stale and seemed worn out, I felt like we were in a hotel restaurant at an airport because it just wasn’t the Melting Pot experience I expected from another location I’ve been to in the past. The food was very good though despite all this.
