The Melting Pot - Somerville Ratings and Reviews
It was a great experience from our waiter and my girlfriends first time. Unfortunely we only had 10 mins to enjoy it before rowdy crowds got seated behind us and we have to physically scream to have conversation. She loved the experience I frequent melting pot but I’m rethinking it due to dropping 100$ on an evening just to scream and hear the waiter behind us served alcoholic to minors.
It was very loud, there were a lot of teenagers running around and yelling. This location also smelled kind of stale and seemed worn out, I felt like we were in a hotel restaurant at an airport because it just wasn’t the Melting Pot experience I expected from another location I’ve been to in the past. The food was very good though despite all this.
The Melting Pot is a fun alternative for people who want to interact with each other without just talking about current events! Two things - first I requested a moscow mule, the bartender gave me a mojito and said that it was a moscow mule AND that he used ginger beer - two kind of outright wrong statements! Second, the seating is in these large booths which get unbelievably HOT when those burners go on, causing discomfort! Pull out some of those booths and put in tables and chairs please!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are a group of six or more adults, those large booths are TOO WARM!!!!!
The food was delicious and fun to cook. The cheese fondue and chocolate fondue were both outstanding. A fun place to eat, especially if you are dining out with friends and want some time to relax and catch up. My only suggestion would be a better bread for the cheese fondue. The one served was tough and chewy.
Service here was unbelievably slow and food was just okay at best (that's being nice). After we were seated it took 15 min for the server to come over and another 10 min to get water. We ordered the 4 course special which on paper sounded good. The 1st course, the cheese fondue, was good but the main course was over priced and just okay quality (not acceptable for a $100+ dinner for two). The time between courses was horrendous. It took ~25min from when we finished one course to get the next. We were there for about 3 hours before we said to hell with this place and ended up leaving before we got the last course (which we still had to pay for). Overall awful dining experience. NEVER going back and do not recommend to anyone.
I received an email that they were having a wine tasting special called uncorked, when we got there they knew nothing about it. I showed them the email, their response was that it was not in New Jersey. I showed them that it showed New Hersey was included. Again they apologized
We have been to this melting pot location several times and have always been satisfied with the food and service. This last experience was the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant in over 40 years. We waited over 30 minutes to have a waiter come to our table. Then we're told there was a mix up with who was assigned our table. The meal went downhill after that. Other tables who arrived after us got there meal before us. Kept on being told by waiter 5 min and our food would come out and waited over 20-39 min for each course. Never even got a refill for my drink despite asking waiter. We spoke to manager who did his best to met our needs. He even checked in with the table. The manager refilled my drink order and he also provided our dessert more promptly than the waiter. This was a special occasion for our family and the service succeeded in ruining the day.
Server didn't know how to make the cheese. I had to tell him and it was still wrong. Place was dead and he still disappeared for long stretches where I had to go walking through the restaurant looking for help when he didn't bring all of our stuff and when we needed drinks. At one point I found him just hanging out at another table with 3 other workers. All the Food was not very fresh.
Our waiter was very slow. I have ordered a Flight for drinks. Basically you are supposed to enjoy paired with with each of your four course meals but everything was extremely slow. The wine was always served after next coarse is already started until I got to the bar and he got me my wine served. From that point whatever i needed i got from the bartender. I have left tips for bartender not for the waiter.
Please improve your service. This is my fourth Melting pot location but I was very disappointed with the service provided.
Definitely a let down. Expensive and the salad was not fresh, the food was not great and I was very disappointed. The service was also slow and the restaurant was not crowded. The salad was brown and the celery was brown too. The food was way over seasoned. Don't waste your money, it was such a let down.
The service was great and so was the food. On the night we were here, it was very warm outside and it wasn't much cooler inside. They could definitely turn down the AC more in here, especially with all the heat coming off the tables. Also, we were seated close to the kitchen and it was super noisy. We've been to other Melting Pot's and this one seemed to lack the ambiance the others had.
We had a 7:45 reservation. We were seated around 7:55 and waited more than thirty minutes and no one even came to our table to take a drink order let alone our food order. I finally stopped another waiter and asked for a manager. When he asked why and I explained it to him he said he would get the manager and that he would wait on our table. The MANAGER NEVER CAME TO MY TABLE TO SPEAK WITH US. The waiter apologized several time but also wasn’t very attentive to our table. I was extremely disappointed in the service here.
We had a great dinner, very relaxed, never felt rushed in fact we were there about 3 hours. Food was excellent and seasoned well. Salads were great everyone at the table had a different one and all were loved. Our server was very polite and knew what he was doing throughout the entire meal. Would definitely recommend this place to friends.
My son and I had a great date at The Melting Pot on a Wednesday night. They offered an excellent mid-week special, which included a four course meal, complete with a cheese fondue, a salad, the main course and the dessert course. There were no options for the cheese fondue, it was the fiesta fondue, but we loved it. It was custom made to our spice level and we were literally scooping out every drop. Of course dessert was our favorite! We chose the flaming turtle and it was heavenly. The dipping choices for each course were plentiful and we left very full and very happy. Thanks Melting Pot for a great experience and great bonding time with my son.
Not sure how to rate this. Our server was a nice guy, the resturant was nice but the value is just not there. Four people, 2 of which were under 15, cost us with tip $230 dollars. That is with no alcohol or drinks...just water! It's not worth that price, specially because most of the cooking is done by yourself. I think there is a reason these are going out of business. Look for a way to bring the cost down and rethink how you package your product. 4 meals but really can only choose 2 options to cook. Just not a great value. Sorry!
The food at The Melting Pot is always very good, but the service at this visit was not good at all. We had our almost-4-year old daughter with us, who is always very adventurous and willing to try new foods, and the server started the meal by saying "you know, usually kids don't like the cheese that we make here so we can do something else". It was a turnoff to have him say that in front of her; he should just let us make the decision on what she should and shouldn't eat. He then took way too much time in the first half of the meal to serve our table, and made an assumption on what type of cooking style we wanted, again saying "well most customers usually like this one because it has flavor". Again, assumptions on activity instead of just letting us make the decisions. Lastly, he took so much time getting around to our table that the cooking style broth began boiling and went on for at least 10 minutes. Would definitely NOT recommend The Melting Pot in Somerville based solely on the poor service.
That was our first visit to a Melting Pot my friends daughter is graduating 8th grade and that was on her bucket list to go there and try fondue. She enjoyed herself we had so much fun. She never realized cheese and apples went together. She can't wait to go back if not she says for her birthday she definitely wants a fondue pot so she can make it at home. Ryan was our server and he was great with us since it was our first time there. We only had the cheese and dessert fondues.
Rather pricey, too much food, and hard to take home the left-overs. We each had an appetizer, a salad, and a dessert. That plus a bottle of wine came to over $100. We wanted coffee, but their coffee maker was broken, so the price could easily have been higher. We couldn't finish the chocolate fondue, and the best they could to was a Styrofoam beverage cup to take it home in. The place is quiet and the service was attentive. My wife likes it. I could take it or leave it.
The food was excellent. I always love coming here. The only issue I had was the server (Zach). He was loud and obnoxious. My fiancée and I just wanted a quiet dinner since we had a rough week dealing with family and work. The whole time he was telling us to smile and be happy, loud enough for the whole place to hear. It was embarrassing and inappropriate. On top of that we could hear his personal conversations with coworkers. Again inappropriate. Every other time I have a different server this restaurant is hands down the best. But these past 2 time I had this server were horrible to the point I will probably drive to whippany just so I won't have a chance of having him as a server again.
We always have an amazing time at the Melting Pot in Somerville. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. The overall meal is consistently delicious and fresh, and there is never any rush to get customers in and out the door, so you can truly enjoy a fantastic dinner.
I like the simplified menu - which has the same items, but it is much easier to navigate.
