Haven’t been here in many years and still as good as i remember!
The food was great, 4 course options is very worth it. Service was terrible, it took 3 hours from arriving to finishing the meal. The place is also quite dirty - trash on the floor, dust in the stairs handrail.
Because the food was so good, the place was quiet, and we were not in a hurry, it worked for what we were looking for that night.
I love the melting pot and we were excited to take our kids for the first time. Luckily they still enjoyed the experience but we won't be going back. The bartender was our server, he made my husband the wrong drink and never corrected it (nor even realized he made an old fashioned when a Manhattan was ordered). We had to ask 3 times for the extras meat dippers we ordered for our cheese, course we taking for ever and we generally had to ask for them. They finally gave us someone else at the end who was much better but too little too late. The bartender came by our table twice talking non sense (literally non sense) almost to be point he was freaking us out. The trains didn't bother me as other people have posted, it is in a train station, kind of expected but the place is old, food is mediocre and service was non existent. I will have to wait to take my kids to the one in Orange County (because they did think the experience was fun) but won't be coming back here.
Bread was stale, portions were small and pricing was too expensive for the experience.
The pots seem to heat up real slow at this location. It was hard to enjoy our food surrounded by loud guests.
When we arrived ontime for our 7pm reservation, the hostess infront was all confused -she said someone called with the same name as ours and said they were running late. We did not call. Then another hostesss came and looked the reservations; there was noone with same name as ours on the list. Anyhow, we were asked to wait as they were not ready. We got seated in about 5-10mins.
Area we got seated had -1 party of 7adults, 1 party of 4 adults+4kids, 1 party of 3 adults and us party of 2. Fo ther whole area there was only one sever. It took her 20+mins to properly greet us and get us menus after seating. She did say sorry about the wait, (and added, I wasn't ready yet. Hostess just sat you guys without asking her.)
This continued throughout the evening...waiting for drinkings.....then our food.....and even for the check in last (we sat for 15mins fo6r someone to run the payment). Definately, not coming back here.
Fiesta fondue was mediocre and awkwardly melted/weird consistency.
Service was painfully slow. I know fondue is a longer meal, but it was almost 3 hours. The next course seemed to never come. And twice, once it arrived it was wrong. We took it anyway though. No saying when we’d get the right one back....
Service has gotten worse since the last time. One of us doesn’t drink alcohol, and so We specifically asked for the wine in the cheese fondue to be substituted with vegetable broth and the waiter ignored it. We could taste wine in the fondue. But the service sucked so badly that we didn’t wanna argue or ask for a change.
We had to repeat our dessert order four times and send it back a few times to get it right.
Paradise was our server, it was our fist time there and she was AMAZING, FUNNY, AND INFORMATIVE, i would go back for the experince, but most of all for the service Paradice provided, made is a very, fun experience!
Our server was excellent. Very helpful. Food was good, give yourself a good two hours to eat here.
I have been this same restaurant in Oklahoma, the food and the service are much better than here. Here, they are not kids friendly even though I already mentioned that we had 1 3-years old needs booster seat or high chair, but they seems like never care for the customer note in the booking. Usually I don’t feel bad like this if I was not experienced the other place’s services.
Waiter told us upon arrival he didn’t know anything about the menu... after we waited 45 mins to sit down even though we had a reservation... unfortunate way to spend my birthday.
Overall good service, good food, good experience. A bit pricey for what you get in meat portions, but it is good for a date night or special occasion.
We were seated right away. Hostess were very nice. Got to our table and our waiter was awesome for the whole dinner. The food was not what I was expecting for the price I paid tonight which was $99 per person. I will most likely not be going back to this establishment again.
Utensils was stuck with cheese. Not clean
Angelique was amazing! Very patient and understanding with all of our questions. Really the best service ever will be coming back due to this service
Great attention and service. Can’t complain about anything and we all had a really good time.
BEYOND DISGUSTED - NEVER EVER GO HERE!!!!!
The owner told us on a previous visit that we should hold on to our Groupon to get the most value and use it another time. We came back and spoke to the waiter and the owner about our Groupon - he agreed to honor the entire package! We were given a pre-set meal selection based on the package - not my 1st choice, but still delicious. Awesome... until the bill came! THEY TRIED TO RIP US OFF!!! After our $175 credit, a meal for 4 was still an additional $125! We called over the owner and his response/defense was APPALLING!! The waitress and my dinner companions all believed we heard one thing and the owner said another. We had to argue and negotiate the bill down... YES, you read that correctly, we had to ARGUE!!!
Listen - this place is old, right on the train tracks, the service is terrible and the food is overpriced.
I WILL NEVER RETURN!!
DO NOT WASTE YOUR $ HERE!!!
We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The waitress was very friendly. She explained everything to us since it was our first time there.
I don't remember the name of the server but he was exceptionally good !
Such a great experience, the service, the food, the atmosphere, everything was top notch!
This was a great time for a birthday. and it worked out really well. They were very attentive and helpful whenever we needed them. The food was excellent. of course the chocolate fondue was the best part of the night.
Enjoyed our dinner. The owner was very accommodating. We got there early and he waited on us personally.
This was my first visit to the San Mateo location as I usually go to the Larkspur location. It was spur of the moment but when I went on open table and saw openings I went for it. When we arrived on time we were told they were a little behind and the wait would be about 15-20 mins. 45 mins later the host apologized and advised it would be a little longer because they only had two waiters. She offered and brought water while we sat in the waiting area. Then the owner came out and apologized and offered two complimentary glasses of wine. It took an hour and 15 minutes before we were finally seated which I think is ridiculous. The waiter we great but I think it would've been nice and help to ensure a return visit if the owner had offered a discount on the bill. I won't go back to the San Mateo location.
It took an hour to get us seated but we didn’t mind. The manager was very kind and gave us free drinks and a bottle of wine. He was always checking in on us and the food was great. Loved it. We had an amazing time
Food was awesome and service at the table was great but the place is a little tired, could do with a makeover. We had a reservation on a quiet night but we still had to wait for our table and were finally seated 30mins after our booking time.
We got there at 5:50 for our reservation at 6pm. We didn’t get sat until 6:10 and finally at 6:29 we asked who our server was.... because no one had even acknowledged us. We wondered why we even made a reservation.
Good service but the format was just painfully slow... didn’t expect a 3 hour dinner
El ambiente es acogedor, en familia lo disfrutamos enormemente. Lo recomendamos .
This place has so much potential and has been better in the past. It feels like they’ve just stopped trying. Broken table burner really ruined the whole fondue experience, we had to keep turning the burner off and on which resulted in long delays. They sent ves state bread and brown fruit and veggies with cheese and dessert course. At least 1/4 of all the lettuce in my salad was brown. Entrees and chocolate fondue were tasty, but $200 for 2 adults/1kid with all the rest falling so far short was not worth it.
Being our first time, my daughters and I had fun at The Melting Pot. We certainly will come again and order other dessert choices which we enjoyed.
Fun cooking experience
Good conversational meal
No music to dampen conversations
Train shakes building when passing
Chipping paint on walls
Old/aging fruit served at dessert
Staff wearing casual attire (t-shirt and fleece jacket)
This restaurant is dated and the service is slow and not knowledgable. It's overpriced and the lack of a childrens' menu/child portions is odd, given most meals cost $45 plus. We were seated in the bar area with children, where it was freezing, and one of our pots was not cooking properly. Would not recommend - The Melting Pot has clearly seen its day, and isn't even great for a fun throw back.
Nice staff. Very cheerful. The restaurant looks and feels tired. The food was expensive for what you get.
The location isn't so great as the rumbling of the train passing through dampened the dinner. The dining experience was new and fun, but for the price paid, we would have wished for a larger portion. Staff was friendly and had excellent service. We will come back again.
We were recently there to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday. It has become a tradition for our family to celebrate birthdays at The Melting Pot as it is a fun and interactive way for the family to have dinner together. The food is always very good and the service is professional and friendly.
It was really disappointing. Our server recommended we share two four course meals between three adults and a young child. The amount of cheese and sides would have been appropriate for one person. The food to dip consisted of three baby carrots, one piece of broccoli, and a giant bowl of stale bread. The protein course was fine, but again we got three mushrooms and a couple of thin slices of potato and one piece of broccoli.
The dessert was similar. We had plenty of cake, rice crispy treats, etc, but just three tiny slices of banana, a few tiny bits of strawberry, and one piece of pineapple.
I won’t be returning.
Excellent service! Very kid friendly.
The cheese and chocolate fondues are the best! Our server was very friendly.
We were seated upstairs where there was not another soul. We asked if their was music up stairs as there was downstairs and we were told the speakers had blown out. After a while my husband got up and looked at a switch on the wall-it was volume which he turned up and the music started playing. Our waiter was very nice, but was sweating profusely the whole time and he seemed very stressed but when we asked him how many tables he was serving he said only 3. We were only having one course-not the whole package but it took 1 1/2 hours to bring our food. And we are the ones cooking it! Not sure what could take them so long.
The food was OK, but overpriced and the management seems lacking.
