The Melting Pot - San Antonio Ratings and Reviews
The best of San Antonio offer the meats didn’t have taste to it, I ordered another site of meats to make up for the lack of seasoning and they didn’t have what I wanted and also the chicken breasts didn’t have any seasoning on them. There was a table beside us that were screaming and being to loud for this kind of dining experience. I wouldn’t visit again since it was overpriced for the dining experience and our server was very much absent
We usually like the Melting Pot, but this time there was no sauce for seafood. They did away with their cocktail sauce a while ago and now you have to special request it when you make reservations and the lemon sauce they came out with they also did away with. So I will no longer be able to eat seafood there :( Also, this time there was a couple of crying kids the entire time we were there. With the amount of time you typically are there I do not feel that this is a child friendly place and anyone who does bring them ruins the atmosphere for everyone else that is there.
The group I was with all took part in the fondue - I; however, am not a fan of the meat / veggie fondue portion of the meal, so I ordered a soup, salad and drink and it was over $17.00 -- salad was small, and the French onion bisque wasn't very good at all.
Second visit with guests, and even better than the first visit. My guests were leery at first not knowing what to expect, and then learning they would cook their own meal. A little stress. I knew it would work out beautifully, and it did. Much of that was because of Lance, our server, patiently explained how to "fondue!" He reminded us to not touch the "hot zone," and reviewed our orders with us. My guests went from not sure about this to loving the experience and we DEFINITELY enjoyed the food. WE "died" when we go to the chocolate! My guests loved The Fondue Pot, and they liked Lance from the get--go. Friend Bill raved about the scallops wrapped in bacon -- he doesn't eat fish. And Sharon had to buy a bottle of your garlic seasoning. What a wonderful way to say farewell to them as they traveled on to their next stop in their newly retired journey.
This place was definitely a let down. I went with three friends for my birthday and it was honestly a waste of money. For 50.00 I would expect our second course to arrive way sooner then it did. It took us 2.5 hours to go from the cheese to salad course only because we complained. Our server seemed to be drunk or high. Overall I will probably never go back. We got there at 8:30 and the whole meal to 4 hours
Very disappointing experience. We will not go back. We were sat at a back section of the restaurant that wasn't even apart of the restaurant. It was a hallway they squeezed a couple of booths into just to have more tables. The booth had walls all the wall up to the ceiling and faced the wall, so you are squeezed into this small cube with no room. The booth was a small corner booth for 2 with one entrance where you had to slide around the seat. Under the table was this large metal bar (joining the booth to the table), so you couldn't put you legs under the table properly. My husband had to keep his legs in the isle just to sit.
If that wasn't bad enough, the meal took 3 hours...not because we took our time, but because the restaurant brought us the wrong meal so we had to wait for them to redo our order. We sat in-between our courses for a good 15 min before they brought the next course.
The bread was hard as a rock and old...but the best part was that because of the horrible booth that had no ventilation of open circulation...there was no place for air to go. This means as we cooked in our fondue pot, the steam had absolutely no place to go...so it went directly in our faces the entire time. I physically had to keep waving the steam out of our faces just to see. The waiter finally turned down the burner to help it a little but could only turn it down a little so that the food could still cook.
Absolutely would never go back.
This was fun for something different, but the service took forever. Our reservation was at 6:15 and we didn't get to leave until 11pm! It took much to long between food settings. However the food was good, pricey but good, and our server was knowledgeable. It was definitely a unique experience and I really enjoyed my birthday dinner overall. The Melting Pot team even left me a nice birthday card at my table, signed by the staff.
My 11 year old son wanted to have a family dinner at the melting pot for his birthday - it was just four of us and we were seated in a cozy booth. He loved everything and we had a great time interacting over dinner as we shared cheese, salads and delicious steak, chicken, and shrimp. Our server told us about a "secret menu" item for dessert: the Snickers chocolate fondue. Omg, amazing. She refilled all our dipping items several times and was super helpful and friendly throughout the entire meal. We loved it.
It was our 5th year wedding anniversary. Our waitress was clumsy and a bit odd. She spilled our hot broth onto the cook top and table. She just walked away. She also allowed the chocolate fondue to get too hot such that I had to turn off the cook top myself even though she said she would be back to do so. My wife is deathly allergic to bananas and we told our server. Not even 5 minutes go by and she brings the dessert dippers to include a large portion of sliced bananas. Aside from these issues, it was still a memorable celebration and the food was excellent.
This was our first time at the Melting Pot and we were so disappointed. I had heard wonderful reviews so took my mother here for her birthday. We got the 4 course experience. First with the cheese, it was nothing out of this world. It was good but not something fantastic. The salad was decent but again, nothing spectacular. The main entree was terrible. We were so overwhelmed and lost as to how to prepare the food. The server explained it to us but it was so rushed. I ended up not even eating half of the meat. Also there was a lack of variety in the sides. We had a young child with us and he wasn’t a fan of the veggies or potatoes so didn’t really have much to eat aside from the chicken. The chocolate was the best part. All together, we feel that we wasted a lot of money and time for food that was subpar. We will not be returning.
