The Melting Pot - San Antonio
Food was good. Service was okay. We got our food at a good time but there were long periods of time where we had nothing to drink.
Great venue for anything special or just for a fun night out. Staff is patient for first timers. It’s a fun, different kind of dining experience, and no... it’s not just cheese fondue.
I have celiac disease and the fact that melting pot offers gluten free bread is the part I look forward to the most. Cheese and bread. I don’t care much for the veggies . I don’t understand the cherry tomatoes with fondue. But that’s besides the point. First we were seating in a tiny booth in a bad spot facing a dirty wall. Our waiter took a long time to get to us ( i think he forgot about us do to un usual table setting). Made me feel claustrophobic, it was hot air flowing no good ventilation at all which is needed in a fondue restaurant, mind you I have been to other locations where we live in Austin TX, so this was the worse I have ever been to. Table was dirty, drinks took very long time to get to us, then the cheese , the tray: 3 carrots mostly celery and apples, tomatoes and of course THE gluten free bread. The bread was cut into pieces maybe 5-6 and it was hard a rock . I was in disbelief, this is what I to eat ? I tried to see if the cheese would soften it , nope, it was beyond fixing. So by the time OUR young waiter returned to our table I politely said to him I just couldn’t eat this bread and explain to him the reason. Not one to complain but this was my meal and an expensive one to be . Bad start already . So he said he would bring more I made sure to ask for a DIFFERENT BATCH. By the time he returned my cheese was thick and not much left because my starving boyfriend was eating some of the many sliced apples , mind you he was being patient . Now the bread , SAME BATCH in a little bowl this time and warm . But chewy so I think anyone reading this will automatically know where I’m going with this or where they went with it . The simply tried heating it up. I couldn’t. I was so irritated by then because I was really looking forward to this meal . Just a joke all around. Got up to the front where management was hanging with the hostess told him I couldn’t finish here just to charge me for my drinks and cheese.
We arrived on-time for our reservation, however there was no table prepared for us. Once we were seated after waiting 15 minutes in the lobby, we did not see a waiter for another 15 minutes. Total we were in the restaurant for 45 minutes before we were served any kind of food. The manager was hanging around the front counter talking with the wait staff. The waiter for our table was rarely available when we needed him. This restaurant has alot of charm, however the service is terrible and the food is very overpriced for the value.
The service was very slow. The ladies restroom wasn't clean well. Comparing to the price, I will expect a clearer restroom.
The service was terrible. We sat there after she took our drink order for awhile with nothing to drink. Took a long time to get our cheese fondue brought out. Ordered a mojito and it was flight. The bartender tried to fix it by just adding a squirt of carbonated water... not realizing we could see her from our table. The food was delicious as always and the server was nice, but overall this was the worst Melting Pot Location I’ve ever been to.
It was kinda loud. I was expecting more privacy for the special occasion.
A fun and delicious experience. The problem is saving room for the dessert course 🙂
The food is plain at best. You cook it yourself so think gimmicky like Magic Time Machine it Benihana. The cheese fondue had a lot of ingredients but no real flavor or wow factor. The salads may have well come pre bagged from Walmart. The enteees were simple cuts of meat or fish you cook yourself in a single method so it’s not always the best method for each you choose. Plus it’s up to you to focus on making sure it’s not over or under cooked so you can’t enjoy the company. The sauces tasted like cheap grocery store options. Nothing fantastic or original about the flavor of anything. We were there so long (because that’s their process) that we skipped dessert. It would be cute to take a young child (age 6-10) but at an average of $50 a person and the low quality of food it’s probably not worth that either
I would probably recommend The Melting Pot although I probably won't go back there. That's because they have now started to serve food, "grilled" but they have made no accommodations for the smoke that comes off of the grilling of the food. The smoke just hangs in the air. No fans in the ceiling, no where for the smoke to go and after awhile it gets to you.
Good food and great atmosphere. Only hangup is parking availability.
We had never been to this restaurant before, but were intrigued by the concept. What a fun dinner! I can't recall when I have had such an engaging menu....since having a picnic in the park! There was more food than at first impression, and the courses helped the meal progress at a leisurely pace. Our server, Ashley, was knowledgeable and friendly. Very good. Very fun!
My wife’s birthday was a great experience. The staff welcomed us with a signed birthday card. And our waitress was very compassionate.
Server made this a fantastic experience! He was fun, energetic and engaged. It made my daughters 18th birthday amazing!
This was the first time my wife and I went to The Melting Pot. We definitely will go back again! We took advantage of the Restaurant Week Special and had a great time. The waitress was very helpful and friendly, it made the experience one that we would love to do again.
My best friend and I have wanted to try The Melting Pot for a while and decided to finally take advantage, especially since it’s restaurant week!
We enjoyed every course! The value was great and the service was extraordinary (Thanks, Alexa)! The cheese and chocolate fondues were so delicious, and the treats provided for dipping were perfect. We chose the cast-iron grilling option for our proteins and the seasonings were more than flavorful.
We can’t wait to visit again soon!
Absolutely enjoy my experiences at the Melting Pot! Can't really have a dull moment when you're the cook. Zach was great and attentive. We celebrated my birthday with my girlfriend and choose the Endless menu option because why not? If you're a slow eater or just like to talk definitely give your self at least 2 hours to have the 4 course meal.
Great time, great service. Delicious food, awesome dessert.
Nice night out for a dinner for four. We enjoyed the restaurant week menu. Melting Pot is a slow meal, so take the time to relax, laugh and enjoy.
Too much work with timing the meats... all other portion of the meal was good.
At other Melting Pot locations I've been to, every person that walks by your table asks if you need anything. Your actual waiter feels like you're their only table. You get eight dipping sauces with the entree. You never run out of your drink. And, you get new fondue utensils for each course. At this location, everyone ignored us. Our waiter didn't come by our table until 21 minutes after we were seated. We went for 10 minutes with a spilled drink across our table with no one helping us clean it up. We were only served six dipping sauces with our entree. We had to ask for new fondue utensils for the main course. We went through long periods of time where we didn't see our waiter at all. Our drinks were refilled only once. Dirty dishes were allowed to pile up on our table across courses. The Bananas Foster was excellent. I will not be coming back to this location again.
Favorite restaurant in San Antonio. food choices good - however expensive so recommend waiting for a special event offered by the restaurant as it is much better value. Staff very friendly. It is not a fast meal - expect to spend a couple of hours here.
General cleanliness of restaurant was suspect. Managers were constantly coming in and out of the kitchen and hanging out by the front desk. Not a single one asked about how are meal was. Table was not clean, no silverware.
Experience was better than most high end places we’ve been to. Service was absolutely excellent. Food was great. We had a lot of fun cooking and eating our food. We’ve been to all the higher end restaurants in town. This was as good or better of an experience that we’ve had anywhere.
I attended because of the special provided for Restaurant Week. I think the normal pricing is a little high for the experience. I enjoyed the time but I don't think I would go back without a special on menu pricing. Great staff though!
Service was okay. She was very nice, just not very responsive to needs. We had to ask for things more than once. Food was excellent. We were there for restaurant week.
The service was very very slow. We waited 20 minutes for them to get our drink order and one hour to start our first course (cheese fondue). It was not a busy night so I am not sure why service was so poor
My boyfriend and I had never been but always have been interested in. We decided to go for my birthday and we not disappointed. The server, Eric, made the whole experience even better. We had a back corner table which was very quiet. There was a birthday card for me signed by the staff which was a sweet surprise. The food was great. We will definitely be going again!
Melting Pot experience was great as usual (we're regulars). Ms August (our server) was spot on with every course--outstanding.
Ny fiancé and I love the Melting Pot. We come here for every anniversary and birthday!
This was a great experience definitely worth coming. And more than willing to go back
Overall an excellent restaurant for a special occasion. The food is great and the service is fine. On the pricey side for the food amount but you are paying for the experience. Highly recommend reservations.
I don't want to blame my waitress completely, the restaurant was very busy, but it seemed to take forever for every step of our meal and then when we wanted to pay we sat for twenty minutes before someone came to collect our bill. Given that we had a baby sitter for a certain allotted time, we began to worry.
Fun place to eat! Loved everything! It was really good. We had a 4 course meal and it was mind blowing good!!! I recommend it to everyone.
Great waitstaff and bartender. Host was very helpful and professional. My wife's CPA firm was also given a review about the place for future holiday events. Our waitress went above and beyond in helping us on our choices.
Great place for a date night or other special occasions. It does take quite a bit of time to dine here but is well worth it.
Excellent service! Our booth was a bit dark, I couldn't read the menu. Our waitress was fun, she did an excellent job at keeping things moving. Food was wonderful!
As always, amazing! The food was decadent and delicious. The service was superb.
We have been coming here for years and have always loved the super friendly wait staff and how special we are made to feel. This last experience let us down though. We made a reservation and specified that we wanted desert only. When we arrived, we were placed in the bar area, which was loud and not the ambiance we wanted. We know coming here is going to be expensive but to get this unique atmosphere, we are willing to pay for it. To be shoved in a corner with no privacy and where it is loud is not what we are paying for. I asked for a more private spot and although it was given to us, the greeter was obviously not pleased with us. The waitress then came to us with an attitude saying, "You are here for desert only? Do you know what you want?" There was no, hello or welcome, let me show you the desert menu. No happy birthday to our daughter, just what do you want so I can get you out of here and get a higher paying customer. That is the last time I let them know in the reservation that we want desert only, we will just show up and "spring" it on them. This is not the service we are used to and I hope it was just a fluke.
Took over 2 hours for 3 courses, didn't even make it to dessert. Server should have checked on us more often. Portions were small meat wise. Fondue didn't taste good with wine, had to redo with vegetable broth
