The Melting Pot - Richmond Ratings and Reviews
We have been coming to Melting Pot for over 15 years. We won’t be back. All of the ambiance and uniqueness is gone. The cheese is no longer made in front of you, we feel rushed, and the atmosphere is nothing special. We came for our anniversary and the chocolate covered strawberries, which we had pre-ordered were not there, we were sat next to 2 families with many small, screaming children on a Saturday night, our waiter was unhelpful and rarely checked in, the cheese looked and tasted as if it had been sitting for hours, the dippers for both the cheese and chocolate courses were subpar, and we left completely unsatisified and disappointed in our anniversary date night. There are many, MANY other nice restaurants in the area that we will be patronizing from now on.
My wife and I have been to this melting pot before and loved it. This time the service was terrible. Then after that it took over 20 minutes for the waitress to shut up talking to the next table and then disappear for 5 min before she came to our table. Over the next hour (how long it took for the cheese course to start) she visited the table three times. Once for the order and then once to deliver the drinks a few minutes later then almost 45 minutes later for the cheese. Both of us ran out of soda and were sitting there with no drinks for over a hour. She visited the table next to us a LOT and stood there and chatted about how guys would hit on her and how she turned them down for 15-20 minutes at a time and brought them all kinds of drinks multiple times. Once I ran out of my drink I could not continue the cheese course and was waiting for the waitress to come but the cheese burnt and started smoking so my wife and I had to turn off the burner ourselves so that nothing went wrong. When the waitress commented on the burner being off I told her about the fact that the cheese was smoking due to the fact that we couldnt eat it due to no drinks and she looked at me like I was crazy, took the cheese and brought our salads... With a refill for my wife and not me.
At this point my wife and I almost left the restaurant. But because of our schedules we wouldnt be able to go out for another week or two and decided to stick it out. The second (and last) drink refill I got (third for my wife) came with the main course. The food was amazing. Honestly the reason we spend over $120 on a meal at a restaurant like that is due to the fact the food is spectacular. I loved my dish and my wife loved hers. The check of course came on time about 45 seconds after my wife and I got the final course taken by the waitress.
Wile the food was amazing, the service was the worst I have ever had at any melting pot. I wish I could remember the waitresses name so I could warn you against her.
It seems that they have changed the menu and preparations a bit. The cheese fondue was not prepared table side, and came to the table already prepared, and unfortunately was cold and did not heat up on the table. WARNING... the spinach salad has pecans that are extremely spicy... so much so, that the salad was inedible. This was not described in the menu. The meats, vegetables, and desert fondue were the highlight of the meal. Overall an adequate dinner, but for the price, we would have expected it to be outstanding, and were disappointed.
We went to the melting pot for an anniversary, we made a reservation ahead of time so no wait time. We were seated in a nice private two-person seating, which added to the enjoyment. Nice dim lighting and service were good. The owner visited the table and explained the menu, I suppose because it was busy. But it helped us make a selection. Their food tasted delicious. Meats were seasoned nicely and the broth selected to cook it in made it taste even better. Fondue chocolate and cheese was our favorite. So rich and the foods to dip in the fondue were good too. It could end up being on avg 60.00 per person but I would definitely go again.
This was my first time at the melting pot and to be very honest I was not impressed. It is very expensive for the amount of food you get and the quality of the food. The resteatant too obviously had not been updated recently at all so the ambiance was lacking. It was fun but definitely too expensive for the value of the experience
Our waiter was friendly, but forgetful. He forgot drink refills, forgot our artisan dippers, and our dessert dippers. We asked two different people for our artisan dippers and it took 16 minutes. The cheese was all dried and stuck. It would have been nice to have the dippers while we had cheese. My daughter was out of a drink twice. He told us apparently everyone wanted the dippers at the same time. He also forgot the separate dessert dippers we ordered. He was friendly, but not up to the normal Melting Pot standards.
Food was good but much smaller portions than the last time I was there. Service was just ok. Assistant waiter kept asking to remove our plates when we were clearly still eating.
Noise level was high—we heard another table in our section complaining about portion sizes and his bill for more than half of our meal. Fun times....
We came to celebrate my husband's birthday. We've been many times and always have a great experience. We know the menu and what to order so no explanations were needed. We know to usually budget around an hour for the 4 course meal, maybe an hr and 15 if we really take our time. Today we were there for over 2 hours. We saw our waiter once to every 3-4 times we saw the other waiters around us. The other tables seated easily 30+ minutes after us finished at the same time as us. Never saw a manager. Unfortunate because we usually have a great experience.
Overall the experience was great. Our entire party thought our server was a little inexperienced. He waited until the end of the meal to ask if anyone in the party had ever had The Melting Pot cooking experience before, which 2 people in our party had never eaten there before. Chair position around table was not the best considering the cooking eye control knob was right in front of the middle of a chair.
Waiter took too long between courses and to bring the check.
We were there 2-1/2 hours and alot of the time was spent waiting for service.
We requested "Amaretto Meltdown" chocolate for dessert which you used
to have but nobody seemed to know all the ingredients that went into it,
even the manager who supposedly had been there for 6 years. We did have
white chocolate with amaretto in it but it was not the same - was missing
We came to the restaurant for a special occasion, a birthday. This was specifically marked in the Opentable reservation when booking. There was no mention of the special occasion the entire visit, although the two tables across from us were brought birthday treats. Not sure how they got recognition but our table didn’t.
The server brought out some of the dippers but forgot half of them. We compared our dippers to the table across from us and asked why they had so many more. The server said she had forgot.. oops.. and that she would bring some. She kept saying she would bring refills of drinks and dippers but we had to repeatedly ask for them before they would actually show up to the table.
Not a fantastic experience. Bread for the cheese fondue was stale, and the tortilla chips were all smashed little pieces. How do you dip little chip pieces in cheese fondue? You can’t.
We have been to the Melting Pot before and have been very happy. This past visit was a big disappointment. We arrived on time and were seated. It was a bit noisy and the music was turned up. No one waited on us for over 20 minutes. We had to go up to the hostess desk to find someone to wait on us. Once our order was taken dinner progressed quickly. We noticed that the portions we received were not as much as they have been in the past. Same price, smaller portions. The food was delicious as always, but I do not think we will be returning any time soon.
We have visited this restaurant multiple times. Although it has always been a good experience, we all agreed this visit was the BEST ever! Shawn was fantastic and the meal was better than ever before. We will definitely request Shawn as our server going forward. We have never received bad service but Shawn certainly knows how to take care of his customers and make them feel special. Thank you for making Ashley’s birthday one to remember.
Since Melting Pot is one of our “go to’s “for special occasions, we decided to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary there. The food, as always, was wonderful but we were surprised at the managements decision to place a family with a toddler and a preschooler right next to us. Wouldn’t have given it a second thought if the place had been crowded, but it was a Tuesday night and we were the only patrons on that side of the restaurant! It would have been thoughtful of the hostess to have a table or two between us as a noise buffer (and they WERE noisy.) It wasn’t the quiet romantic dinner we were hoping for. It certainly won’t keep us from returning, but I think the people in charge of seating us should be made aware of this.
