The Melting Pot - Richmond Ratings and Reviews
This was my second time at the melting pot and it was just as or maybe even better than the first time. Awesome place for a date night, or special occasion. My lady vowed that "this is our place" if that gives you any idea how nice of an experience it is or was.
Made the reservation for my daughter's 18th birthday celebration with 3 of her girlfriends. Specifically made for the latest reservation at lunch to make it more affordable for the girls. My daughter (the birthday girl) texted me freaking out that the lunch that we thought was $19.95 per person was now double that amount. I called the Melting Pot in Gayton Crossing (Henrico) to find out why - they said that the lunch price ended at 3:00 p.m. I was really clear when I made the reservation that they would be included in the lunchtime price, as we are dealing with four teenagers and budgets. The Melting Pot would not honor the lunch price. Rather than upset the special birthday celebration, I authorized my daughter to pay the additional amount, even though I was not happy about it. They had a great time and the food was good, which was the goal. I really feel that the lunch prices should have been honored especially for this group - even if the restaurant had to make an exception. Not sure if we would go back due to the confusion.
The shrimp cocktail was room temperature and the food was overly salty and spicy. The service was very good and attentive. The value was poor. A Valentines Day dinner for 2 with a moderate bottle of wine was $300. You can get a better meal almost anywhere for that cost.
We came to desert and ordered coffee
The server stated they were out
I asked for manager to ask how are you out of coffee
He stated order in tomorrow
I asked you are in a shopping center 60 seconds from a Kroger
You can not walk to get coffee
He had a confused look like why would I do that
Had gone very down hill
Main door in ladies bathroom would not close
Will not go again
Worst service I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I made a reservation two weeks in advance so that my girlfriend and I could have an early Valentines dinner and I was extremely disappointed. I was recommended The Melting Pot by family and friends and heard nothing but good, however this experience makes me question whether I’ll ever go back.
My girlfriend and I arrived 15 minutes early and were seated quickly, but not where I was expecting. The hostess led us to a booth in the front of the restaurant that was seated feet from the bar. After enduring ten minutes of the obnoxious bar patrons I requested we be moved to somewhere quieter. I was expecting the two person romantic seating that almost everyone else received, however the hostess led us to the back of the restaurant where families and large parties would be seated. We then sat for another 10 minutes before catching a glimpse our server. When we finally deciphered the difficult menu and decided what we would have to drink another older couple was seated near us. Their server was much friendlier and prompt and they even received their foods before us. Not to mention they actually had some stuff taken off their bill because of their wait, even though we waited longer! This place was an absolute joke. We was really excited about the night and it was absolutely horrific. The only thing that salvaged it was the delicious food. All in all, the melting pot did not live up to its expectations and was not worth the hefty price tag that came with it.
Dining at The Melting Pot was a very rewarding experience. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable. Our waiter recommended combinations and wines bases upon our interests. The salads, entrees, and fondue were excellently flavored, along with the very pleasing sauces to accompany our menu choices. The atmosphere was peaceful and comfortable. A worthy place for an intimate dinner.
Believe the hype! Aaron was our waiter and he was amazing! Food was great and we had a lot of fun. When I made the reservation I mentioned that it was our 16th anniversary, they covered the table with roses and the entire staff signed an anniversary card for us. Expensive but we'll worth the money. No regrets.
We've been to The Melting Pot several times and all were very great experiences, but this particular visit wasn't as great. The service was very slow and several mistakes were made that caused our visit to be two and a half hours. They did say they were short staffed. The food was very good and we will probably return but hopefully we will have a better experience next time.
Tonight, my husband and I were celebrating my birthday a week early and we decided to have a quiet dinner alone at the Melting Pot. When we were seated, it took a while for our server to greet us but we didn’t think anything of it at the time- and in hindsight we should have realized this was a foretaste of the less than stellar service that was to come. Our server, Gavin, was pleasant and explained the menu in great detail and answered any questions. We placed our order and it took a while for our first course to come, but again, we wanted to enjoy each other’s company.
Between each course, the wait time became successively longer- and we rarely saw our server- and I would have thought it was usual had adjacent not had an amazing and attentive server- who brought refills of dippers, constant drink refills, etc. We each ordered a cocktail and drank water, however the water was empty quite often and once a manager came to refill it. We asked for additional green goddess and never got it.
We waited about 20 minutes after our meat dishes were taken away before our chocolate fondue order was taken- along with a Billionaire Coffee for my husband. The fondue came about 15 minutes later, but no coffee- which we were told “would be right there”. It came after we had completed our chocolate course. We didn’t accept it and sent it back and asked for the check. We never saw our server again as someone else brought us our check and our take home fondue dish. We never received the chocolate covered Strawberries we asked for and after almost three hours of being there, we needed to get back to our home.
I understand that Saturday night is a busy evening for the restaurant, but I was highly disappointed with the level of service we received and we tipped accordingly. I am disappointed that we didn’t receive many of the items that we asked for and while the food was superb, the poor service left quite a bad taste in our mouths- and we likely will not return in the future.
We always love The Melting Pot! My husband and I usually go for our anniversary and this time we decided to bring our teen son. We had no idea there was a family section until this visit. This section was for those who brought iPhone toting children. Definitely a noisier experience than usual, but the food outranked any distraction. Always superb quality and we look forward to another visit!
The food was wonderful but the service was slow. We never got our water refilled, it took more than 15 minutes to get a cocktail. Our table wasn't cleared between courses in a timely manner. I'm not sure if the server was in the weeds but she only came by the table 3-4 times throughout the course of our meal.
We have been coming to Melting Pot for over 15 years. We won’t be back. All of the ambiance and uniqueness is gone. The cheese is no longer made in front of you, we feel rushed, and the atmosphere is nothing special. We came for our anniversary and the chocolate covered strawberries, which we had pre-ordered were not there, we were sat next to 2 families with many small, screaming children on a Saturday night, our waiter was unhelpful and rarely checked in, the cheese looked and tasted as if it had been sitting for hours, the dippers for both the cheese and chocolate courses were subpar, and we left completely unsatisified and disappointed in our anniversary date night. There are many, MANY other nice restaurants in the area that we will be patronizing from now on.
My wife and I have been to this melting pot before and loved it. This time the service was terrible. Then after that it took over 20 minutes for the waitress to shut up talking to the next table and then disappear for 5 min before she came to our table. Over the next hour (how long it took for the cheese course to start) she visited the table three times. Once for the order and then once to deliver the drinks a few minutes later then almost 45 minutes later for the cheese. Both of us ran out of soda and were sitting there with no drinks for over a hour. She visited the table next to us a LOT and stood there and chatted about how guys would hit on her and how she turned them down for 15-20 minutes at a time and brought them all kinds of drinks multiple times. Once I ran out of my drink I could not continue the cheese course and was waiting for the waitress to come but the cheese burnt and started smoking so my wife and I had to turn off the burner ourselves so that nothing went wrong. When the waitress commented on the burner being off I told her about the fact that the cheese was smoking due to the fact that we couldnt eat it due to no drinks and she looked at me like I was crazy, took the cheese and brought our salads... With a refill for my wife and not me.
At this point my wife and I almost left the restaurant. But because of our schedules we wouldnt be able to go out for another week or two and decided to stick it out. The second (and last) drink refill I got (third for my wife) came with the main course. The food was amazing. Honestly the reason we spend over $120 on a meal at a restaurant like that is due to the fact the food is spectacular. I loved my dish and my wife loved hers. The check of course came on time about 45 seconds after my wife and I got the final course taken by the waitress.
Wile the food was amazing, the service was the worst I have ever had at any melting pot. I wish I could remember the waitresses name so I could warn you against her.
