The Melting Pot - Reston Ratings and Reviews
The Melting Pot is always such a fun experience! While it is quite pricey, the cheese and chocolate fondues are delicious. I did not care much for the entrée fondue, but that might just be me. We went there on a Saturday evening, and made a reservation for 6:30. It was not too busy when we got there though. Towards the end of our meal, I noticed there were a lot more people waiting to be seated. I overheard someone say that they had been waiting for an hour. So, to be safe, I would make a reservation.
The food was amazing. We got the 4 course meal and we (tried) to eat everything. Everything was so delicious that by the time we got to the chocolate fondue we were already so full we couldn’t even enjoy it like we should have.
The manager came to check on us twice which was really nice.
I started coming to The Melting Pot just over 15 years ago & have loved it ever since!!! It is a great place to go for a celebration, romantic date night, girls night out, or just because the kids did great on their report cards! For whatever the reason, or for no reason at all, head on over to The Melting Pot! Just don't forget to wear stretchy clothes & arrive HUNGRY!!!
I’ve been going to Melting Pot for probably 20+ years. The experience is always good, even when we go to the one in Myrtle Beach during our annual trek to the beach. It’s an interesting concept for dinning and that’s what makes it fun for an occasional outing/date/special occasion. The experience can be quaint for two and communal for a larger group. The selections are somewhat limited, but you really dont need anymore than what’s offered (not like Cheesecake Factory encyclopedia menu :-} ). Plan on spending a couple of hours and remember to engage your server. Most have been friendly, interesting and open to dialog. Our server last evening showed up at the desert course with two flutes of champagne; what a nice surprise.
If you haven’t been, give it a try. If you haven’t been lately, put it on your short list of dining experiences for the near future.
We love the Melting Pot. Consistently good food and service. On virtually every visit you see the manager to check in on your experience and they always strive to make things right if something falls out of place. If you love fondue, this place is just great! (Better experiences at Reston vs other locations in the past.
Unacceptable wait time, had to ask few times before getting refills, didn’t see our server much. Booth we sat on kept moving every time the other party-I was sharing the booth with-moved.
My child was completely ignored, she was waiting excitly to order her food, that didn’t happen!!
It was absolutely an embarrassing experience for my special occasion after bragging about how great the service and food was.
Was totally unhappy.
This was my second experience at Melting Pot and it far exceeded the first (which was in a different location). I’m glad I didn’t “write off”melting pot based on my first impression. The staff was friendly, accommodating and our waitress was very informative. The manager even stopped by to ensure everything was perfect! I would not only recommend this location but I will visit again! Wonderful experience!
This was not our best experience at The Melting Pot. We go every year for my birthday but this maybe the last time. Their prices are really getting high and the service is getting worse. Our drinks weren’t refilled at all during our meal and we ran out of dipping sauces. We were celebrating a birthday and we used to get a complimentary slice of cheesecake with our chocolate course, a few years ago they started serving a plate with whipped cream and “Happy Birthday” written in chocolate but this year...nothing, even though the waitress had asked if we were there to celebrate a special occasion.
We had a great time although our particular table was terribly set-up in that you could not talk to everyone at your table and we were there with our two small children so it made it even more difficult to share the pots. I would suggest NOT sitting families that want to have a nice dinner and talk to each other at that table.
Cheese and chocolate were outstanding! Was not in love with main course, cooking meat in broth. Lighting was dark...hard to tell of chicken was cooked so we ended up over cooking in broth because we couldn’t see if it was still pink. Overall a fun, albeit expensive experience. Would only do apps or dessert in the future.
Waitress had a bad attitude and couldn’t answer questions well. We did a “date night” package and did not receive what the website said we would. Spent a lot of money for a rather disappointing evening. Also at the bottom of the check we’re tip calculation 18% 20% and 25% and the were extremely inflated. They said on a $120 check 20% was $38 and some change. This left a very bad last impression of my evening. I would NOT recommend this melting pot there are just as good restaurants in that area maybe for even less money!
Service was very, very slow. The manager ended up "helping" our server. When our proteins arrived, we were told how long to cook them. We cooked them double and they were still not done. We noticed the pot was not boiling and mentioned it to the manager/server. Turns out our pot was not plugged in. The cord ran under the table at an angle to the wall, and one of us had accidentally knocked it loose. I am not sure that it is up to code to run electrical cords like that in a restaurant. The tuna was awful, it smelled so bad I did not even try it. The tofu was so over marinated it just tasted like soy sauce. I did not even complain about this because everything else was already so bad that I didn't want to make my guests uncomfortable. The chicken and beef were ok, but do not get seasoned meat with seasoned sauce- the flavors fight each other and they end up not really tasting good. It would have been nice if the server helped us order because we told her we had never been there before. The chocolate at the end was very good. Overall, the service was awful, the food barely edible, and it was really really expensive.
We had a party of seven. All “dippers” are unlimited. When we got our original dippers (especially for dessert) we knew they wouldn’t last long with the amount of people we had so we asked for more. We must’ve ran the waitress at least 6 times (didn’t want to but kept running out of food to dip into the fondue) and each time she came out with a smaller and smaller amount. With children in the mix of our party of 7, it was quite frustrating to constantly have to wait for more food while we watched our fondue get hotter and hotter.
Having not been to Melting Pot in years - the experience was certainly not what I remembered it to be. For the prices they are charging, the quality of ingredients is sub-par, the food preparation and presentations are lackluster, the service was not what you'd expect to get when paying roughly $40+ per person for a meal/experience. The portions of food are much smaller than I recall, we had three people in our party, we shared cheese and each barely got 4-5 cubes of bread before the cheese was gone. They gave us two full baskets of bread, apples and veggies to dip in the cheese - most of which was wasted because there wasn't enough cheese. The salad was limp and overdressed. Even the amount of cooking liquid they provided for the table was mostly gone as we were finishing up our entree meats. The service was slow and not very attentive, we sat at our table for more than 30 mins before we saw our server - thankfully we had time to get a drink at the bar before our table was ready. We were busy chatting and catching up and weren't planning to rush through our meal anyway, but still 30 mins waiting to be acknowledged is unacceptable. I found the experience to be nothing more than what you'd get from a regular chain restaurant and I find that disappointing when paying premium, special occasion dinner prices. Seems like it's hit or miss based on all the reviews, our experience was a miss. I don't think we'll be back to a Melting Pot, can't justify the vast lack of quality for the cost aspect of it all.
We have come here hundreds of times and unfortunately this was by far our worst experience. The server seemed to be off her game, forgetting to bring our drinks before the cheese, the forgetting the lemon for our cheese, and basically never checking on us during our dinner course. It took over 20 min to get our dessert course on the table as well. It was just very disappointing compared with all the great experiences we’ve had before.
We went for the special promotion of unlimited entree for my boyfriend. We've always gotten wonderful service there and there was no exception in this case even though people stayed there longer than normal. They were accommodating for switching out the all meat endless entree for vegetarian options for me. We leave full after a normal meal there but with endless entrees we barely touched our chocolate!
Food was fabulous! And so much fun to prepare it ourselves. We were very shocked, and still shocked, that we were charged $60.00 for the pot of oil to cook the food! We did not see such an indication on the menu. For this reason, I don't know if we will return. Our server, was good, however, I think she continually forgot about us. A table of four that was seated behind us arrived 30 minutes after us, and left about 20 minutes ahead of us. We were 'waiting' for things several times.
