The Melting Pot - Portland Ratings and Reviews
My girlfriend and I had a marvelous time the food and service was excellent. Nathan was a great server and did an amazing job. Just the right amount of checking in and giving us our privacy. We talk a lot and eat really slow so dinner can last a couple of hours easily, and we never felt rushed and always felt welcome. Thank you very much for a marvelous time; once again Nathan you did an outstanding job!!
The initial impression of the restaurant was as expected. It was fun and cool experience. Now that being said, the maitre d' was very unfriendly and too young for a restaurant of that caliber. Also, I had to remind our server that we were there. Again, never had such bad service at a top-rated restaurant.
We were very disappointed in one of our favorite restaurants in Portland. The burner kept going out, the server was very busy with other tables and should have checked in more often. The cheese wasn't melted or hot. The chocolate wasn't hot either. We had to keep adjusting the burner. The manager was awesome and did give us a discount, as we were there to celebrate a birthday. I don't think we will be visiting again, unfortunately.
We came to Celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary. Had a quiet booth in a corner. As always our sever was wonderful and catered to our needs. The four course dinner experience did not disappoint. Our favorite dessert the flaming turtle delicious. We will be back again and again. 💙💖 Thank You Melting Pot and Staff for making our Anniversary special.
Food and Service were amazing! My husband and I were excited to come again after celebrating our anniversary last year here. I was excited to see potstickers on the menu. The first portion of our meal we had some noisy obviously belligerent neighbors cursing and talking about doing drugs before they went to their next destination. After they left we never got new neighbors and had a great evening!
The server was inattentive and the staff was clearly overwhelmed by a Friday night crowd. The Melting Pot is one of those places we go for birthdays and special nights, but our waiter was either handling too many tables at once or just not interested in us. Meanwhile, we spent the meal watching four people hang out at the front of the house.
As always The Melting Pot doesn't disappoint! Plan to spend some time relaxing in conversation while enjoying wonderful flavors! Cheese and chocolate are 2 things you can never go wrong with! The wait staff is welcoming, helpful and friendly! They are doing funsraising for St. Judes!! Who can't donate to that wonderful cause!? Such a great place to eat and enjoy friends and family. There's never a rush to get out and the staff is always willing to attend to your needs. Check them out!
Slow service, bland cheese, cold fondue. Entree portion sizes are laughably meager and of middling quality for the high prices but you're mainly paying for the experience. If the experience is bad, as ours was this time, there's zero point in dining at the Portland Melting Pot. Especially not worth paying over $50 per person to be ignored while trying to choke down cold fondue and wilted salad. Past visits have always been great, don't know what's changed since the last time but we won't be going back after that sad, overpriced display of incompetence.
Tried this place for the first time for my husbands birthday.
What I liked- service was good, the romance package was cool (table had rose petals, floating candle, take home chocolate wafers and a keepsake photo they take when you sit down) I also added a cute teddy bear. For the dessert just go with strawberries and chocolate. The rest could’ve been left out.
What I disliked- The food (besides dessert) We had the alpine cheese for our starter (don’t get it!) all we could taste was salt and garlic... the cheese consistency was off, it was more like a milky sauce. The broth for the dinner was also super salty. We picked the mojo broth. The meat tasted okay cooked in it, but with the veggies that’s all you could taste was the salt...
Final thoughts- We both agreed it’s not a place we would want to dine at again. We also wouldn’t recommended it to anyone, unless you just want to try something different and don’t mind feeling like you just wasted over $100.
We always enjoy the Melting Pot. It's a lot of fun to have the Big Night Out and do the different courses. We LOVE that it's quiet and you can actually carry on a conversation, unlike so many restaurants. We were surprised this time that the portion sizes had been reduced by so much. Not so much the entrees, but the cheese and dessert course, the fondues and dippers, and the salads, were about half the portions.
This was our first visit to The Melting Pot and what a great experience. Our waiter, Jerry, gave us a nice tour of the menu. We aren't big eaters, so we chose the cheese fondue, salad and chocolate and had more than enough to eat. Everything was delicious, but the white chocolate/dulce de leche dessert was more than we could have imagined. I see a return visit for us.
Our waiter Steve was excellent. The package that they presold us with card, rose petals and pictures was overpriced. The food was great. The table for two was a little cramped with no place to hang coats. They also hid us in a corner which was quite and private but almost closet like. The trip to the bathrooms was a weird maze. Menus are ok.
So, first of all the melting pot is not accessible and having to get special permission from the restaurant to use elevators does not count. Second of all the food was alright but not great for literally $50 a meal and unlike other similar restaurants there was nothing unique about it. Our waiter, whom Im sure was just doing his best, literally disappeared for an hour and because of this we couldn't stay for our final course because well we had to sit around making pointed eyes at other waitstaff for a half hour with the hopes that someone would tell our waiter to come back because we were done with the main course. I'm not the type of person that expects someone to read my mind but it was literally an hour between us getting the main course and him coming back to check on us. Also he was kinda rude but that's whatever.
Over all I enjoyed the melting pot experience and their food. However, when we first got their (we had made a reservation) right at our reservation time they made us wait around to get seated. Several servers had come and gone that could have seated us. Many tables were clean and open. If I make a reservation I expect to be seated at that time especially when the restaurant was less than half full.
Waitress charged us for a soda that we didn't order. When we discussed it with her, she pointed rudely at my water with mio in it and said 'what's that then' and called us liars.
When we spoke to the first manager, Kennedy, she was also very rude and said 'I don't think my staff would say that to you' when I described what the waitress had said.
When I called out the manager, Kennedy, on calling me liar she then said that there must have been miscommunication between the waitress and I. Um, you can't miscommunicate a rude gesture accompanied by a snide remark.
Basically, for the price that you pay here...you shouldn't be called a liar by both the waitress and manager. Very poor customer service skills.
I have been a fan of the Melting Pot for years, but had never been to this location. We went on a Monday night for a dinner between friends that hadn't seen each other in a while. The ambiance was such that we could catch up over conversation and the lower price point options on the Crave menu fit our college budgets (for a splurge dinner that is!). Overall the service was friendly and helpful and the meal was delicious. Would recommend for special occasions or a fun treat-yourself meal.
The dinner was great. Our waitress started to become quite rude after we asked her for some clarification on the desert menu. We were a young couple out for dinner and wasn’t sure on it. She rarely checked in on us. We ordered two salads without nuts and a peanut butter cheesecake was brought to the table with no notice on the menu. My boyfriend ate part of the cheesecake and he is allergic to nuts. The waitress didn’t seem to care that this had happened but brought us a regular cheesecake. Normally enjoy this place. This night I did not.
