The Melting Pot - Portland Ratings and Reviews
We have dined at the Melting Pot several times over the past several years and have enjoyed our experience. This time was much different and had us contemplating walking out.
We had reservations for 745pm and did not get seated until after 8pm. It took a long before we even saw our server for the 1st time. He was obviously frazzled and his attitude was not pleasant. When we ordered our food, he told us there would not be enough food for the both of us and we needed to both order a 4 course meal. Even after we explained we frequented the restaurant and knew the portion sizes, he shook his head at us. We had to literally beg for our waters to be refilled through the meal. The amount of time between courses was un-excusable and he mentioned to us numerous times he was way to busy. We were disappointed and question returning again.
Our waiter was wonderful, offering wine suggestions that were exactly what we wanted to drink. Food was delicious, of course, tweaked again by the waiter to optimize our visit and accommodate a vegetarian with our group.
Tacky laminated placemat- style menus not really in sync with the rest of the restaurant.
Amazing food, fun experience and good service. We liked being tucked away in the corner. The ONLY thing we were displeased with were the very dirty walls, for a restaurant you're going to spend $50+ per person the restaurant should be clean . Other than that, everything was perfect. It's a 2 hour drive for us, but we will be back!
Even though it’s a chain, it’s still got the feel of a unique restaurant. Waiters are great at recommending appropriate wine pairings for your meal selections, their hand crafted cocktails are well made and not overly priced, and the ambiance is perfect for any special occasion, but not too fancy to just drop in as a last minute dinner choice. The menu has many options to choose from without being so large that you can’t decide what you want to eat. The wait staff was friendly and welcoming and was ready to answer any questions you might have as well as make any recommendations for your dinner choices. Totally recommend this place.
It wasn't horrible but we do notice we can go to other restaurants for the same cost or lower with the same type of service. The only difference I noticed is the ambiance was so quiet so amazing I love quiet places to eat. At the point we walked in there were birthday groups but over all it quieted down through out the night. The cost is the only thing that is sort of a bummer in some ways because my boyfriend mentioned its mediocre food. We had too much for two people and some steak or lobster went to waste. The salads were on point. The desserts were on points. I'm not a fan of bread overall the cheese part was great as well. I didn't mind it because it was so quiet I enjoyed being in there and there was privacy but the place really needs to be cleaned, first thing I noticed was dust. My parents would have had a heart attack and our silverware wasn't cleaned that well either.
The waitress was terrible and rude, only came to serve us for 3 times in 3hr dinning period, and only filled our water for once. It took her so long to come to the table and never seen her around so we have to ask other waitress to help us. When we ask to refill the fruit plate, she only brought us a tiny plate of fruits. When i ask for check, she just got it out from her pocket and went away without asking either we wanted separate or together. We waited another 10 minutes to ask for separate check but she never came back therefore we had to find other waitress to do the bill. She was horrible. Otherwise the food was pretty good, just have to improve the service
Parking is a bit of a pain, and good luck to first timers going there finding the place, but once you find a parking spot, then the restaurant, you're good. It's a bit like going down into a bomb shelter. Food was good, Jaime was our server and he was a delight. The big issue we had is the time there. Our reservation was for 7:30PM. We had several significant wait times between courses, and the total meal time ended up being a little over 2 hours, we didn't get out of there until after 9:30PM. That was crazy!
Our dining experience was a disaster. I was celebrating with my teenage daughter’s and it was extremely disappointing. We had a 7:45pm reservation and after being seated, we were not waited on for 40 minutes. Our water glasses sat empty for an hour before being refilled. Our waiter was odd and seemed to be ignoring us and waiting on other tables before us. I had a hard time getting his attention as he barely made eye contact with me or stopped by our table.
While ordering the cheese fondue he talked me out of what we wanted to order and suggested he wanted to make something else. Explain to him that this was my girls first time having fondue and that it needed to be mild. He brought something that was very strong with a very pungent ale. Neither of them liked it and I asked him for what we had originally ordered. I was already disappointed by the slow service and his lack of attention.
After waiting on our main course for well over 2 hours, I finally got up and asked to speak to a manager. She was very apologetic, and offered to comp my girls’ lemonades and take care of our chocolate fondue, but it was only $18 off our bill that was $158.
I was ready to walk out at almost 10:15 pm when our food finally arrived. The table across from us had been seated nearly 2 hours after us and their food came out before ours.
At this point, we all had lost our appetites and the broth that was made to cook our meats in by our waiter was so disgusting that we couldn’t eat it. He put in excess of garlic and mushrooms and onions. We felt as if he was trying to send this on our way because I had complained.
Our chocolate fondue came out immediately following our main course. Things seemed to be speeding along. I think the waiter just wanted to get rid of us. We were there until nearly 11:00 pm and had a 1.45 hour drive home. This was supposed to be a very special night and a treat for us. We left feeling extremely let down and disregarded.
We spent the last few wedding anniversaries and birthdays at Melting Pot. We were always given a plate that was written ‘happy anniversary/birthday’ with chocolate so we could take a picture with for good memories. But the last two times we didn’t get that.
We weren’t asked if we needed more veggies/bread for the cheese dipping, or more fruits for the chocolate fondue this time.
They have really gone down cheap wise. Soo expensive for what you get. Cheese dippers include bread, baby carrots cut in half, green apples, baby tomatoes and celery. Where is the broccoli and cauliflower? Both of which go way better with cheese than carrots, celery and tomatoes! $48 for this, crazy! Salads are small. Dessert is the best thing they have. Skip the meat part unless you like boiling your food. Will not go back.
I drove 3.5 hours to Portland to take my wife out to The Melting Pot for her birthday. It was worth every bit of the drive. Our server was Karen. She was upbeat and put a personal touch on the experience. We have been to this location twice now, and it is still one of my favorite places to take her. We will be back for sure and in the last 3 days, have probably told at least 12 people about our experience there.
