Christmas experience gift for our grandson!
Going to the Melting Pot is a once a year type of deal for us due to the cost of dining there. We've had great service in the past, unfortunately not this time. We had Drew and he was mediocre at best - seemed like this job was below him as he's been working for the company for 10 years on and off. May be time for him to move on unless he can turn in around. There was another server named Bronson(?) who was much more helpful, attentive, and enthusiastic. He genuinely seemed like he enjoyed working there and talking to guests. I would recommend this for a date night or double date night, but ask for Bronson - he's the best!
Enjoyed cheese and chocolate experience with excellent service!
Great opportunity to catch up with people - plenty of time to talk! Server great, food amazing! Tables just small but nice & private.
The food is good and a fun experience. The staff was attentive and friendly. The prices are a bit high for the level of experience and food. Very cold if you sit at the tables near the door. The decor could use an update. Good gluten free options!
Excellent dining experience with my daughter before a show!
Let me explain why this location gets 3 stars... Which is still a good review according to OpenTable!
It had been many years since I came to The Melting Pot and my friend and I decided to come last minute on a Saturday night for his birthday. We were told that there were only tables at 4:30pm or 8:30pm (clearly this place must be BUSY!), so we reluctantly chose 8:30pm which is late for us but thought, why the hell not, we'll eat a snack around 4pm to hold us over.
We show up, and the place is EMPTY! I mean, for no tables available to reserve during prime time, I would have thought TONs of people would be finishing up their dinners and it would be bustling. But no, there were 2 empty dining rooms, a bunch of empty 6 toppers, and a scattering of people at 4 top tables.
So I find this confusing. Either management has made a decision that no 2 people reservations can sit at a table with 6 chairs, or they purposefully do not have staff to support additional tables beyond the 2 dining rooms with people. (Yet they clearly have enough money to support 4 hostesses...) Either way its lost revenue. Wouldn't 2 people at a 6 person table be more revenue than NO people at a 6 topper? And I'm sure there were others like me that looked for a reservation on Open Table or called, saw there were no 7pm tables and changed their minds. I will gladly offer my services to the management to do a cost benefit analysis.
The food and service were good though! We had a delightful waiter who gave us good recommendations. I wouldn't say all his recommendations were winners, but we had a great time anyways. Its always fun to dip sticks into hot delicious cheese or oils. Desert was super fun and they brought out extra fruit which we appreciated. I would definitely go again if I'm ever in town and looking for a fun, interactive meal. I am worried they will go out of business if they keep purposefully not filling up their restaurant.
Fun experience! Staff was great! Food and drinks amazing! It’s actually a lot more food than I anticipated!
It’s a lot of fun.
Definitely a forgettable experience. Service was “eh”, nothing notable. Food, eh. Bread for fondue was dry as hell, celery bits were dark/slimy on the ends, as were the apples also. The Cajun seasoning was good. Double thumbs down overall. Won’t be back, encouraging others to pass.
Very slow service which made it a very long dinner for us with 2 kids. We were jealous of the people across the aisle from us who had much more attentive service. Food was good and fondue is fun. Very expensive so will reserve for special occasions
Tom, our waiter is awesome! He makes the experience super enjoyable!
Great food and excellent service
Fondue was sub par at best. Meats and breads were not up to the standards for the price.
Felt like they just hadn’t updated anything and the service was strangely uncomfortable.
Very odd experience
Excellent vegetarian choices, along with gluten-free breads and desserts. Dipping our food in the cooking oil took a little practice, but we soon got the hang of it. We were promptly seated at our reservation time. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful. Plenty of food is served, so we could have gotten by with a single entrée order to split between us. Prices are high, but the experience is worth it for a special event as it was our anniversary.
The service was AMAZING! Everything was explained in detail and substitutions were no problem.
It’s such a fun environment, but way over priced for what you get.
It’s my daughters favorite restaurant and we came to celebrate her 13th bday.
Every thing to make her birthday special was nickeled and dimed to my bill.
The quality of food is not up to par for cost.
Luckily, she loved it all except dessert.
Had a great time learning about the way things works. Everything tasted amazing except for pineapple and chocolate. That’s a no go.
It is a perfect place for date and special occasion. Everyone is nice and food is really good.
What an incredible experience! The food was delicious, the service was great, and the overall experience was superb. I would definitely recommend!
Took my lady friend to dinner for her birthday. The service was wonderful Brooke our server was a pleasant helpful person.
The food was fabulous. It was a nice evening out.
Had dinner before seeing a show at Arlene Schnitzer Theater. First time there, reservation at 5:15pm show was at 8pm; we let waiter know both of these things. He didn’t explain the menu very much(especially when we later heard many of the other waitstaff with customers), so we just ordered the most popular “Best if Portland”, waiter was helpful in letting us change the cheese sauce and letting us know we could order for 1, essentially splitting the meal. The salad and cheese fondue were good. We had selected the oil to fry our meats; also potatoes, broccoli and mushrooms that we didn’t know were coming with meats. We were given quick instructions and times for cooking items, then waiter disappeared. We got out our phones to use timer since there was no other way to time them. After we had cooked several items we noticed that everything seemed to be overcooking, a manager came by and adjusted something at end of our table but didn’t say anything and wasn’t there long enough for us to even ask a question. Still no waiter, no offer of 2nd drink that I had requested a menu back to look at drinks... another guy whisked by and made another adjustment to burner. Flagged down a different guy to ask about one of the sauces that came with meats, but he was new and didn’t know the answer. Finally, waiter showed up again, we asked for fresh ice water and mentioned that we had overcooked several of our items. He stated the oil was hard to regulate. He came back with dessert menu, but no water. We hadn’t finished going over dessert menu, but companion had to use the bathroom(since we had now been there 2+ hours)and while she was away, he came back for our dessert choice...still no water, but I didn’t know what we wanted. We were scarfing down our dessert, new kid took our credit card to give to manager since we were now panicking to get out of there and to the show, which thank goodness was just a block away. Left at 7:50pm, still no fresh ice water!!!
Loved it. Will be back.
The service was exceptional! In previous visits years ago I remember there being more variety in the foods to dip into the cheese and chocolate fondue, so I was a little disappointed there. But our server was wonderful, making great recommendations and bringing everything very quickly. He made it a very pleasant experience.
It was a really nice experience. We went with another couple and having to all decide the same fondues, I really didn’t like. There should be maybe a couple choose the same, but having to choose the same in the whole party. Not everyone has the same tastes.
We had a grest experience here. We had a great server named Drew. He was wonderful and didnt rush us.
Truly enjoyed it will be back with friends. The four entrees was more than we could eat. Enjoy
The fondue, salad and protein was great. The dessert I rate mediocre. Service was outstanding. Make sure you keep the entrance stairwell swept out.
We love the Melting Pot restaurant in Portland. We go a lot but tonight was one of the best. Bridgette was out waitress and she was awesome. Best waitress at the Portland Melting Pot. Salads were better than normal. Just overall excellence.
Excellent service, good food, a bit overpriced.
Birthday dinner for mother in law. They have her a card. Everyone was very nice and the food was delicious. Something for everyone
We arrived early and asked if we could be seated early. We were told yes, about 10min. We were not seated early we had to wait until our reservation time. Being our first time here for our 15th Anniversary we were disappointed with the ambiance, very dark and had a weird smell. After being seated our waiter was very nice and explained everything to us. Shout out to Ryan. We got the 4course meal. The cheddar cheese dip has a weird after taste. We thought the bread was blah and very stale. The side of carrots, celery and tomatoes was very odd combination to dip in hot cheese. The salad was okay. Then the meat course. The waiter had told us 2-3 min per piece. Well that was not true, the chunks of chicken and pork took 5-6 minutes to cook all the way through. Doing that 15 times took forever. I feel like there should be a side of something to snack on while you cook you’re own dinner. This was truly not what I had expected. I thought they were small strips that would cook quickly. I did during our dinner use the restroom and found that very odd. Didn’t feel super great in that hallway. Just seemed cold and not in cohesive with the restaurant theme.
Dessert was very delicious and would come back for that. But all in all a huge miss for $111. I could of cooked all of that at home for way less. The 4 course meal should include a drink. Not alcohol just maybe a coke or coffee and tea. And you should validate parking. Your yelp reviews say you do but once there we were told the new owners do not do this. Huge disappointment.
The melting pot was an amazing experience! Our server Jerry was the best server my boyfriend and i have had i long, long time. I definitely recommend going here!
The entrance made us a little nervous as it is underground. The wait staff were all super friendly and the restaurant was beautiful. We were there for my wife's birthday. They put us back in a little cubby corner that was very private. I had ordered the rose petals, balloons, photo, and chocolates, and it was all waiting at the table for us when we arrived. We arrived early and they got us back to our table about 20 minutes before our reservation.
I confess, I did not enjoy the cheese fondue or the salad, but those are not my favorite kinds of food. We had to leave suddenly when the meats arrived because my wife suddenly started feeling ill. She didn't eat much and started feeling better once we got into our air conditioned car, so we think she just got overheated. It was a very warm day, and being back in that small area with stoves all around, it was pretty warm.
The food really isn't my sort of fare. I am sure most people would enjoy it, but the first two courses were not food I enjoy.
I won't be coming back for a while, because it is VERY expensive. I don't spend that much on four nice dinners out most of the time.
However, for a once-every-few-years thing to do, it is quite nice.
We LOVE the Melting Pot! The new earlybird promo for $59 makes it easy for us to come in more often.
Really enjoyed our meal, and our server (Brooke) was very friendly and attentive. This was a celebration of my parent's 45th anniversary, and we all enjoyed the experience. The fondues (cheese at the beginning, chocolate at the end) were all delicious, and the main course meats were very well-seasoned and tasty. Great place for a special occasion.
This was my first time to the melting pot and the server was very nice and explained everything.
