The Melting Pot - Lyndhurst Ratings and Reviews
I don’t think I could have had a more terrible experience. Made a reservation for 6:30 and arrived to restaurant on time. Had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Once seated, had to wait another 15 minutes to be greeted be server. Host did not ask me if I wanted coach check until I was seated, and did not provide me with special menu until I inquired about the special dinner for two they have been advertising. The first bottle of wine I ordered they did not have. Of course the server did not know this so another wait ensued. Ordered a second bottle of wine. They were out of that as well. Of course the server did not know this either. Another wait. One hour after arrival I settled on a third choice of wine. Server was not communicative and was not trained well. Did not clear plates and did not ask for additional refill on wine since I had to settle on the third option which was a half bottle. Silverware was dirty. Salad was stale and pre-made. At a lower price point you would expect this level of service perhaps, and you are paying for the novelty of this experience, but this was a catastrophe. I will not be back.
Normally when your server greets you, they ask if there is any special occasion that has brought you in. After our waiter did not ask, my boyfriend mentioned it was my birthday and asked if they did anything special for birthdays. Our waiter said yes, he will figure something out but then never brought anything over for me. A person in the booth next to us was celebrating her birthday also and their waitress brought over a small cake with candles but yet I never got what my waiter promised. Also he did not come over very often, we never got refills and we waited at least 10 minutes for him to pick up our check and then return my change. Overall, he wasn't very good but I still love the melting pot. Hopefully next time I will receive a better server.
We had a nice time at the restaurant, the waiter was very good, explaining the menu options and refilling drinks. For such an expensive place ( our Bill was $250 for 5 of us) there were a large number of children making a lot of noise, which surprised us. The food was good, the wait staff was good, we enjoyed ourselves, they had placed balloons and chocolate covered strawberries on our table as we had requested for our daughter's 18th birthday. They accommodated our party even when we arrived half an hour earlier than our reservation was for.
Had to wait 40 minutes AFTER our reservation time to get seated. Not acceptable. There is no point in having a reservation if you have to wait that long. Kind of set a bad tone for the evening. Took over 3 hours from walking in to walking out - so a long time. Nice private table and delicious cheese and dessert. Would not go back if they are not honoring reservations in a timely manner - caused too much frustration.
The cheese and chocolate courses were the best. Great place for martinis. Service was excellent. We had a party of 7 and had two different fondue pots for each course, but the chocolate fondue should have had more chocolate. We ran out of chocolate and still had a lot of items to dip. Took 3 1/2 hours for 4 courses.
We were really excited to have a little room all to ourselves as requested!!! However, our waiter seemed to be in a really bad mood. He wasn’t very attentive (we went pretty long without being checked on/waiting for water/waiting for refills) and he just seemed quite grumpy. Kind of frustrating with how expensive this place is. The food was amazing as always!!!
The waitress was very friendly but she was not very well trained. I don’t know if was her first day or not, but she couldn’t explain to us how the service worked.. it was our first time there so we were lost with so many options .. she could have been more clear in her explanation... but the food was really really good! We will try again and I hope having luck to get other attendant...
This is the second time we have been here. The first time we went with friends. This time we took our 10 and 15 year old daughters. They were not impressed by anything but the dessert. Both my husband and daughter ate half cooked chicken and I had to inspect every bite after that. We were there for over 3 hours! The food is just ok to me. For the price, I would rather take my family out twice to another nice restaurant. Our check was almost $250 with tax and tip. No alcoholic beverages!!!
I was really disappointed in the quality of food. It was my first and probably last visit. The bread for the cheese tasted stale, the salad was soggy, and the meat was bland. The dessert was the only good thing. We also weren't given good instructions in how to cook the food.
Food was good, but it was very pricy for the amount you get. Expect to be here awhile, 2 hours in and we hadn’t even gotten to order the dessert that came with our meal. We waited a good 45 minutes between courses for the food to even be brought out, even though it’s brought out raw, which we couldn’t understand. We brought this to the managers attention and he was very responsive, which was nice. Overall the experience was good but a little frustrating.
Service was excellent. Atmosphere was great, it has a romantic vibe without being too quiet. Having the cheese fondue as an appetizer, it was fun, delicious, interesting, everything a small plate dish should be. I thought the main course might be the same but it quickly looses its excitement. For the price tag, I would expect something a little more complex in both aesthetics & taste. In my personal opinion (coming from a chef point of view), leave the fondue for small plates or appetizers. Let the main course truly be the main course. Now as that is the idea behind the entire restaurant, things might just have to stay the way they are & obviously a lot of people love it. These are just my thoughts
Favorite place for me and my wife. Have went there 4 years in a row for Valentine's Day. First time we had a bad experience with waiter. Not personable, didn't explain options, just wanted to leave, very few words said to us and then wouldn't come back for a prolonged period of time. Never had an experience like that but won't hold it against the restaurant.
We had a great time at your location once we got there. We were running late and notified you all of that and there was no pressure to get there thanks to the hospitality. Having never been to this location, we found it very difficult to find and navigate so that added to the tardiness as well. Once seated, everything was fine but a bit dark for where we were seated but overall no problems. Our server was a bit slow at times, but we also took a bit to order because it had been a while since we had been to the Melting Pot so we were checking over everything we wanted, so maybe that contributed. Other than that, our only major complaint would be that the guests around us were a bit loud and it made it hard to engage in our own time together as it was very distracting. We will be back for sure and we look forward to a different experience.
Took our 17 year old daughter and we had a blast. Our waitress was awesome. Since we have never done Fondue she was patient and helped us through every step. Our favorite part was the dessert. We ordered the yin yang. And it came with a plate piled high with goodies to dip. from strawberries to rice crispy treats. A few things I didn't like was firstly, it was too dark in the place. It was hard to read the menu and make sure the meat was cooked thoroughly . Secondly, it had pretty expensive price tag for us. So we will go again only for special occasions. But we will definitely be back.
I would never go here for Valentines Day again!! They give you one menu for $150 per person with only selected items. I feel everyone should be able to pick their own food instead of them picking something for you. Complete turn off. I prefer to go there on a normal day. “Never a special occasion that everyone celebrates”
We enjoyed dinning at The Melting Pot. The negatives of our experience was the
server forgot to bring our champagne. We had to ask for it. We had to ask where
our server was. It took him 25 mintues to bring our chocolate fondue. I didn't like
that the gratuity was automatically given to the server instead of by how well he served us.
My daughter is a server so I am very aware of how hard they work and
I'm not a stingy tipper, but he did not earn his tip. His name was Michael. He started
out well but by the end it seemed like we were waiting for him. He never refilled our
water glasses. Also our table was very tight and somewhat uncomfortable.
That being said, I really enjoyed the food and ambiance. It was our first time dining
here and we liked the choices and the fondue experience. Would like to try again sometime.
We visited the Melting Pot for Valentine’s Day. On the phone, I was told the menu was set but we could ask for substitutions which turned out not to be the case. My partner doesn’t like seafood, but because we weren’t allowed to swap things out, I only had seafood and him the rest. At previous Melting Pot experiences, the service is nice and slow and allows for moving from one course to the next with just a little time between. This was not the case this time. Before we could finish one course, the next was there. It felt like our server was rushing us though she was very polite about it. The table was also a bit of an issue. In an attempt to make a more intimate setting, I assume, makeshift dividers were set on long tables to make two much smaller one. My partner and I were seating side-by-side facing a wall with nearly no room for elbows or to maneuver. The lighting, albeit intimate, was a little too low and made it difficult to see the menu or if the meat was cooked properly. That being said, the rest of the food and service was pretty nice. We got a gift bag at the end that contained a seasoning, two glasses, and a $50 gift certificate. In the end, will I return? Yes. Will it be on Valentine’s Day. Absolutely not.
I have been to Melting Pot before and liked it but this time was not all that impressed. We went to celebrate Valentine's Day and while we enjoyed our evening out, neither of us were thrilled with our meal. The cheese fondue was good but the salads were not. It was the worst Ceaser salad I've ever had. The main course was just ok, as was dessert and our service. If we were to go again, we'd probably just do cheese fondue and drinks.
The restaurant has been good in the past. This time the whole experience was a bit less than I would require in the future given the cost.
Our reservation was at 4:45 for 6, 3 younger kids (well behaved) and 3 adults. We waited for 25 min before being seated. That’s a problem for me. If you take reservations, be able to accommodate them. If you find you’re often not able to, stop taking so many.
The staff was nice but gone for 10-15 minutes at a time. Had to ask busboys to find people for us a couple of times.
Food was ok. The cuts are good. No real complaints, other than it was less amazing than in previous visits.
Also, we just happened to be sat next to younger parents / kids and some teens with bad language. I asked our server to say something, and she did, but they laughed at her, and me, until I went over to talk to everyone myself. They were fine after that, but not really something I would consider “relaxing”.
All in all, we’ve come about 3-4 times per year for 3 years, but I doubt we’ll be back.
Although our server was great, the food was not. Also, restrooms in the restaurant were closed while we were there, so we had to go outside in the cold to use restroom. I have wanted to eat at the melting pot for 20 years, I finally made it and it was a total let down. :(
Disappointing experience. We had a reservation for 7pm on Saturday. We arrived a few minutes early and waited in a packed lobby. When I asked where the restrooms were they told me that they had had a pipe burst and were unusable. I was told I could go outside and down the escalator to a public restroom at the bottom of the escalators. By the time 7:30 rolled around we were frustrated. We asked why we hadn't been seated yet and were told that they seat bigger parties first. When we were finally shown to our table, we had one cooking pot, not two like we had requested. The seats in the booth were dirty and the floor under the table was littered with food. The service was okay, but not special. It wasn't the special occasion experience that we were expecting.
