The Melting Pot - Larkspur Ratings and Reviews
This review is for overall service. We were turned away, refused service, for my son’s birthday because his Aunt was vegan. Even though our reservation was at 4:30pm and there wasn’t a soul in the restaurant (every table was empty but our own), we were not allowed to move to a table that had two burners so that my sister could have a vegan meal. The host/floor manager even said she could sit there and watch the rest of us eat. Ha ha! Ridiculous to be treated so rudely and with such disrespect. Unreal they could not accommodate our open table reservation in a completely empty restaurant. Terrible.
Great atmosphere, service and wonderful food. Would totally recommend this place for fun, special occasions or with family. A mistake was made after reservation was made on line. The manager called the day of the reservation and said they didn’t open till 5 pm and our reservations had been made for 4:15. The manager called in wait staff and promised he would even get us started if need be. They never skipped a beat from the time of our arrival and the experience was awesome.
The experience was great but our server was 2 weeks "new" and her response time was SLOW.. We waited 20 minutes for our first cocktail. She forgot things and couldn't answer some questions, when asked. She was sweet but because this was a birthday dinner... It was frustrating to wait so long between courses and wait again for 20 minutes for our 2nd drink. I was tired as dinner took almost 3 hours.. I normally wouldn't complain but I spent a lot of money that night and hoped the service would have been better.
The melting pot
was the Marin County’s worst restaurant we ever had a dinner!
Outrageously expensive for mediocre food they serve. Menu was a deliberately tricky so they could riff off the customers! We had a special occasion of 10 Tennis plyers gathering. We all are Terribly disappointed in this restaurant.
However, the server did her best to serve promptly, it is not her fault giving us tricky menu and outrageously expensive price.
We will not recommend to anyone!
Booking my reservation I read some less than stellar recent reviews. I had been in the past a few times so I was waiting to see how our experience would be this time around. Service was great. We were early for our reservation but they seated us immediately. Wait staff was attentive to keeping table cleared and any needs we had. Food was good. I was disappointed to see that for the cheese course the bowl of veggies/fruit we were served for 2 servings was miniscule. Truthfully can't recall if it has always been that SMALL but I was caught off guard by that. Overall a good visit. We will return for special occasions.
This location of the melting pot is what makes it so special, the brick oven is such a cool setting. I have come here every year for my birthday for the past 10 years or more, and they make your special occasion feel special. The food is to die for, and the wait staff are all very well trained on making your food in front of you and making good conversation, considering they are very involved in your dining experience. Overall it's always a 20/10 experience and I always recommend it!
Just wanted to say that the pace is too slow.
We sat around 7:00pm, our server took our order and brought our drinks but cheese fondue wasn’t served until 7:40ish. Then our entree and then dessert. We didn’t get out until 9:40pm which I think is too long.
Chain. Fondu. Booth for four was very tight seating. It was way too hot in the restaurant with the air heavily permeated with grease smoke from oil-based cooking. The salads were great and the sauces for cooked meats / shrimp / vegetables very skimpy. Maybe I’m not a “fondu person”, but the only thing I would return for is the chocolate sauce desert. The price was outrageous - at $300 party of four. Cheddar cheese sauce first course was very good, but how much bread dipped in cheese can you eat??!! I’m not coming back for dinner. Our server was very good.
Mike was our server for the night. He did a great job explaining to my SO and I the menu a couple times because we weren’t understanding it. Overall the experience was good. I was a little disappointed that our anniversary was not acknowledged even when I put it down in the reservation, might have been an error on the Open Table app though, so not a big deal. The cooking style we chose was mojo, didn’t enjoy it as much as we thought we would. But the dessert was great. We chose “the original”, loved it so much I kept eating even when I was full. My SO and I will have to come back just for the cheese and chocolate.
There were so many 1 star reviews on yelp, that I almost didn't go. My sis suggested we make 5:00 reservations, and if it was awful, we'd leave and go elsewhere. What a pleasant surprise. Darin was our server and he was attentive, personable and efficient. We didn't need the menu explained to us, but he did guide us which cheese fondue he thought was the better choice of the 2 we narrowed it down to.
Sis and I don't like meat fondue, so we had classic alpine cheese fondue that came with green apples, bread and a small bowl of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. She had a house salad and I had chevre citrus. I had their sunshine sangria and sis their freshly picked margarita. (A couple each). We were full and satisfied, but how can you pass up chocolate fondue? Impossible! We had the one that had caramel and pecans in it. The mistake we made was ordering a mocatini and a chocolate coffee drink to go with the dessert. For the first time in my life, I experienced chocolate overload. But it was worth it.
The fondue, salads, drinks and dessert were all prepared using fresh ingredients and far exceeded my expectations. We will be back.
WARNING: Sir Francis Drake Blvd. traffic was a mess. We were 15 to 20 minutes late due to the bumper to bumper traffic once we exited 101. It didn't affect our reservation and management was fine with it. I think it would be a big problem as the night goes on and they get busier.
Let me start by saying that I have always liked The Melting Pot. My daughter loves it and we went there at her request. I would have likely left the restaurant after the 45 minutes and I had not seen any food if this were a normal occasion. Our reservation was at 7pm and we arrived at 7:15 and left the parking lot at 10:15. That may not sound as bad as it was. We only received the chocolate at 10:00. I requested a dual burner table and was denied when I know that the place wwas not
Apparently, there was a banquet that slowed everything down. They just showed up? That doesn't make sense that they would not make a reservation, which would allow for proper staffing to be maintain.
Every phase of the meal took an hour whether we wanted I to or not. I was not impressed and thought I should have been compensated more that $25.
We were there for super long. Our waiter forgot about us so we were their even longer. My wife wanted to leave several times but we hadnt been in awhile so I asked her to stay. Food was super expensive you have to cook it yourself. Left very hungry. Hostess and manager were very nice but t h ey coudnt save our night. I think a more attentive waiter and some speed in which things are delivered it could be better.
Our 12 y.o. daughter loves the MP and requested it for her friends to join her for her birthday. Of course, it was her evening but I find the formula meal and routine is a bit much. Service was quite slow, more than a celebratory occasion would call for; the food is very poor quality (our dipping vegetables were dry and stale with very small portions; and the prices are exorbitant for poor quality food of very small proportions. The basic cheese dip was quite good though.
It feels like a factory routine. The wait people are quite friendly trying to do their job, but I would never go back unless my daughter requested it.
Always a let down and still the place where our kids want to go on their birthdays. Three hour meals because servers ALWAYS disappear for 20 minutes at a time. A 6pm reservation, 20 minutes for drink order to be taken, another 25 minutes until they were at our table. Had to get up and walk to the bar mid meal for round two because our otherwise bubbly and enthusiastic server was MIA. Fondue is fun, I get it. But this is the last time we waste $300 on a birthday dinner here.
