The Melting Pot - Larkspur Ratings and Reviews
The food was absolutely delicious! All of the employees were extremely friendly. The bacon cheddar cheese fondue was amazing and the strawberry salad was the best i have had. The blackberry sage lemonade was so yumny. The presentation was exquisite. The dessert fondue was my favorite. I had the cookies and creme fondue with milk chocolate. This was the best food experience I had ever had!! I cannot wait to go back!
We always go to the melting pot for our anniversary. Being that we have been to this location many times we know what to expect. Unfortunately the food was not as good as it has been in the past. And the green goddess dip was runny and not thick as usual. Plus our pot wouldn't heat up as it should have and the cheese never melted to what it should have. The server was great, but tye drink runner was slow and we waited for 20 minutes for a drink.
I celebrated a friends birthday and he had never been. I wasn't sure if he was going to be okay with cooking his own food but he had read that it was a fondue restaurant and was up for the challenge. Being that it was his birthday, I put in a last minute request through my existing Open Table reservation to have rose petals put on the table not really expecting them to see it. Well, they did and he was pleasantly surprised as well was I that they had fulfilled the request. We were tucked in the back sort of secluded which was nice. Our server was fabulous, however I cannot remember his name. They were very attentive and since this was my guests first time dining there they took the time to explain everything in detail.
I have been here several times in Larkspur and more recently in Greenville, SC and my experience with the staff is always stellar. I even like that you can eat fondue at the bar :).
Great service, usual menu. Only disappointment was I had booked for my daughter's birthday where we go every year for and they did not seem to have that info even though we had reconfirmed via phone. Waiter brought out generic birthday plate not the usual one which is personalized. I've attached a picture of the past. We didn't even take a picture of this year it was so pathetic it only had chocolate no pieces of cake, strawberries or even the candle.
The melting pot is a great fondue restaurant – beware when making reservations of their site through open table though. Call and confirm directly. Made our reservations more than a month ahead of time and when we got there ( after hiring a babysitter and making a long drive for our special dinner ) they had no record of our reservations even though I had gotten a confirmation from OpenTable the day before which I showed them. It was stressful and embarrassing, though we finally did get our table and enjoyed our meal.
I HAVe been here many times and I used to love this place. We had such a horrible experience. The food was good but the service was horrible. Our waitress would never check on us. We needed more bread and I needed to have a different person get it for us. My salad was lacking dressing and again I had to ask a busser to get some for us because she wouldn’t come by at all. After waiting forever after we were done with our food to get our check I had to go to th front to ask for it because again our waitress was nowhere to be found. We drive 45 to get here and I don’t think it’s wirth it anymore. I don’t know if we will be returning unfortunately.
The waiter messed up my drink twice and still charged me $10 for them which I thought was ridiculous. He kept taking our silverware which we needed for the other courses and also brought us the wrong cheese for our first course.
I didn't realize we had to cook our own food either, I thought the entrees would be prepared for us so having to cook our own meal was a bit odd and if I wanted to cook my own steak or chicken I could have at home.
Usually love going here but our waiter was lacking in service. He rarely came by to ask if we needed anything and in the couple times he did he took forever to bring back what we needed. Also food on average this time around. Cheese had too much beer base and our waiter brought out the brother not even half full. When it was time to cook the food in the broth, we couldn't place all our food forks in at once as the food would not be cooked. Disappointing experience the last 2 times we've gone, not sure if we will be back anytime soon.
The service was not good (not just from our waitress, but other members of the staff as well). No one was talkative or inviting, I felt as if I was an annoyance for asking questions because I was not familiar with the menu. The service was slow, they brought out multiple wrong menu items to our table, and not all of our items came out (specifically drinks - even when we asked about it twice, we were told that they were coming but they came at the last course of the meal). Overall, it seemed that the staff had little communication with each other and no one fully knew who was bring what out and who was taking orders. I was really bummed because we came for a super special occasion and I talked up this restaurant a lot (I've had other phenominal experiences at other locations) and it turned out to be below average service.
We were there over 3 hours already, and the pots were not even heated for our dessert yet. We could not be there another 1/2 hour especially with our 2 year old. When we told the waiter we will have to skip dessert (even though it was for his birthday) he didn’t have any response and said he would get the check. No apology at all that he kept leaving our table unattended for too long. Also our drink orders were forgotten three times. Even the bill took another 10 mins to show up. We were his first table and many of the groups that came after us were finished before. Was hoping for a more positive experience. The food was good, but service needs improvement.
I don't see how this restaurant remains open in this area, with all of the truly good options. The hostess was a total grinch - snippety when we arrived and angry when we accidentally spilled a drink. Our waitress was nice but not that helpful about explaining the menu options which are complex. And it is SO SO SLOW. It's meant to be a long, coursed meal, but even getting waters and then the check took forever. The food was airline quality. Truly. It looked to be popped out of a prep portioned bag. So gross.
The Melting Pot is a wonderful place to go to celebrate a special occasion or to meet an old friend. The food is so fresh, the wait staff never rushes a decision or a meal. They are always there to give a suggestion or an explanation. The food is delicious and the ambiance like no other restaurant.
This review is for overall service. We were turned away, refused service, for my son’s birthday because his Aunt was vegan. Even though our reservation was at 4:30pm and there wasn’t a soul in the restaurant (every table was empty but our own), we were not allowed to move to a table that had two burners so that my sister could have a vegan meal. The host/floor manager even said she could sit there and watch the rest of us eat. Ha ha! Ridiculous to be treated so rudely and with such disrespect. Unreal they could not accommodate our open table reservation in a completely empty restaurant. Terrible.
Great atmosphere, service and wonderful food. Would totally recommend this place for fun, special occasions or with family. A mistake was made after reservation was made on line. The manager called the day of the reservation and said they didn’t open till 5 pm and our reservations had been made for 4:15. The manager called in wait staff and promised he would even get us started if need be. They never skipped a beat from the time of our arrival and the experience was awesome.
The experience was great but our server was 2 weeks "new" and her response time was SLOW.. We waited 20 minutes for our first cocktail. She forgot things and couldn't answer some questions, when asked. She was sweet but because this was a birthday dinner... It was frustrating to wait so long between courses and wait again for 20 minutes for our 2nd drink. I was tired as dinner took almost 3 hours.. I normally wouldn't complain but I spent a lot of money that night and hoped the service would have been better.
The melting pot
was the Marin County’s worst restaurant we ever had a dinner!
Outrageously expensive for mediocre food they serve. Menu was a deliberately tricky so they could riff off the customers! We had a special occasion of 10 Tennis plyers gathering. We all are Terribly disappointed in this restaurant.
However, the server did her best to serve promptly, it is not her fault giving us tricky menu and outrageously expensive price.
We will not recommend to anyone!
