The Melting Pot - La Jolla Ratings and Reviews
Great fondue experience - we have done both dinner and dessert now and really like both. Only comment on the sweets selection is the "portions" or sauces are quite small for what they charge but really like the fact that you can have unlimited dipping selections so we opted for more fruit as the Marshmallows are bit much to dip into the sweet sauces.
Very sad about our New Year's Eve experience. I would normally chalk it up to being New Year's Eve but when your waitress proactively covers your drink bill due to the terrible service and encourages us to write an honest review so the "owners" can see how bad it was, there isn't much else I can say. We had a 7:30 dinner reservation. Upon arrival, we were told we would be notified when our table was ready, no estimated time, no offer of wait in bar...Once at our table about 20-25 mins later, it took another 15 minutes for a server to come by to ask if we had been greeted and said she would take the table...Clearly, we were not in her section and she picked us up. It was freezing in the restaurant - my daughter and I huddled together with my husband's suit coat over our laps for the entire 3 hour meal - yes 3 hours it took from reservation time to when we left. We would have left sooner but since it was a price fixed menu we had paid for our deserts and we figured we had been there that long....It took 2 hours to get to our main course, again a fixed menu choice. The best part was the bright shining light that hit my husband's face like he was being interrogated at the police station. Not only was the light there the entire time but for at least 1/2 hour the light brightness increased and took 2 times to request it be dimmed. I have dined at the Melting Pot before and specifically sought out this place for our send off of 2017. I will be hard pressed to want to dine at Melting Pot - La Jolla again....
First time patron. Very good service and a fun experience! I recommend the 4-flight wine pairing to go with each course. It seems like small portions but it fills you up... come hungry - you totally want to have room for dessert! A bit pricey and takes some time (about 2.5hrs) but totally worth it for a special occasion or group outing to share the fun times together.
Mixed feelings about this place lol we had an eventful first time. Long-ish wait but we let that slide. 2 of us ordered wine and the server got the wrong wine, wrong size. Then we got brought the wrong chocolate . Then when the new chocolate came out it had a hair but we were so shocked we didn’t say anything after we had already taken everything back. I want to come back though because even though our actual waiter made tons of mistakes, the other waiter Micah made up for it. Coming back for cheese next time (:
It was delicious, but not an appropriate place to take kids. It's really annoying when I pay a babysitter to watch my kids, so I can have a romantic night out with my husband, and they sit a screaming 3yr old right behind us. Please, if most of the plates cost $50+, take that as a sign to get a baby sitter.
If you have never been to The Melting Pot, then you have to at least once. Especially if you like playing with your food. I would describe the quality of the food and the portion to price ratio to be mediocre and dissapointing. The booth seating in this restaurant is very cheap. I could feel the people behind me puncturing their elbows into the back of my seat. I would reccomend this restaurant purely for the experience and not for the food itself. Also, you might as well save your $100+ and take your date out to In N Out and a concert instead. Rock on!
Not too fancy not too casual. Can be quiet or quite noisy depending on the crowd! Ambiance and service were good, but not great like my previous two visits which was slightly disappointing. Meal for two was around 130 (excluding tip)- worth it for the experience ( date had never been to a fondue restaurant). Value could be a bit better but overall very nice
We came here for my husband’s birthday for lunch and it was a fun experience. There were four of us and plenty of food to share two four course entrees with an extra dessert side. Everyone had a great time and our server Courtney was really attentive and knowledgeable. The only thing that detracted from our lunch was the temperature of the room. It was freezing to the point that jackets were not enough. I highly recommend you come prepared. Maybe during dinner time when there are lots of pots going it is nice but for lunch it was too cold.
The Melting Pot did not disappoint. This time we experienced Endless Fondue - it was a great chance to sample some of the meats I hadn't before. I found I loved the chicken and shrimp as well as the steaks. Our waitress did a superb job of keeping our iced teas full and our sauces and meats refilled s needed. The meal was perfectly paced and very tasty! A wonderful birthday evening (the chocolate covered strawberries for the special day were certainly a tasty treat!)
Should really be ashamed. Rates top 3 in my worst dining experiences ever. If it wasn't for my wonderful g/f I would have walked out before we were even sat. Checked in for reservation 10 mins early as we were the only ones in the lobby I thought to get a drink. Bartender greeted us and then it was downhill from there. While she was too busy cleaning the bar to stop and hand us a cocktail menu she continued cleaning and then went out to the patio to check on her tables, when she returned to the bar instead of asking us if we wanted a cocktail, asked one of the servers if they were busy? Indicating that she kept getting sat. Since we were ignored for 10 mins we went back to the lobby and waited. Waiting became the theme of the evening. Our server was missing in action most of the night, waters were empty on more than one occasion for over 10 mins, I asked for a wine list and the server never asked me if I wanted a glass of wine upon return. Each course had a minimum 30 minute delay which wasn't a problem because I had great company, but our dinner turned into a 3 hour long saga that never seemed to end. Anytime she was at our table did her best to pick up the pieces of the horrific server. Granted I observed the server when we sat down she had 3 tables at the time. Singing the names of items as you deliver them was not something that was desired for our experience. I will say the saving grace was Hannah (curly hair w/ glasses) she saved our experience from being completely horrible making sure to facilitate our needs with a smile and professionalism. 3hours not even a manager or supervisor was visible during the experience to complain to or I would have asked them to move us since the picture on the wall next to us was covered with splatter from previous guests and fruit flys that decided to join us for dinner. I will say that there are many more challenges I could have written here if given the room. nearly $200...and for what?
We were there celebrating our anniversary and they placed us in a wonderful quiet table and covered it with rose petals and candles. It was beyond Lovely. And our server (and all the support team, too) was awesome. Fun, friendly personalities. We had an epic dinner. Couldn’t be happier.
My grandson and I were celebrating his 18th birthday. Everything about our experience at the Melting Pot was wonderful! I wanted it to be special for him, and it certainly was! The food was delicious, and fun to cook at the table. I was impressed at the selection of non-alcoholic drinks that he could choose from to make the meal even more fun for him. Our service was excellent!
All in all, a fantastic evening!
It was our first and last time going to The Melting Pot! Not a lot on the menu that we typically eat, and some of the food was not good (the chicken breast was rubbery and didn't taste good). Even the cheese, as we only eat white cheese without the food coloring that makes the cheese yellow (not the fault of the restaurant though)! It was not explained which vegetables we would be receiving (we didn't eat one type of the vegetables, if the waitress would have told us before, what we would have received, we wouldn't want have ordered that certain vegetable (so it wouldn't have gone to waste) and we didn't like two of the type of bread that came with the cheese fondue! The bread was bottomless, but unless you kept buying the cheese fondue, all you would have is the bread (which is expensive for the amount of cheese you get)! We didn't even get to eat all of the vegetable and fruit that came with the cheese fondue, as the waitress took it before even asking us if we wanted to eat it, after we were done with the cheese! If you cooked the potatoes as long as the waitress said, it would have turned into potato soup! She gave us wrong cooking time with most of the stuff, you had to cook, it was either mushy or not cooked well enough. We had to figure out the timing ourselves to cook the food properly after we got another bowl of vegetables, after waiting about 25 minutes before the waitress showed up at our table again (it wasn't even busy when we were there)! It was too expensive for the amount of food that you receive and we didn't like the taste of most of the food! We don't mind paying more for our food, we just want the food to taste good! For the amount that we paid for our meal, we are going to spend that amount and buy our own fondue sets, and this way we get to choose what type of things we would like to dip into the cheese!
We had never been here before but we can’t wait to come back! Brooke was an AMAZING server! She was funny, nice, and extremely knowledgeable about the food and menu. She helped us have the best dining experience possible! Thanks Brooke and we can’t wait to come and sit with you again!!
Wow, the service at this place is truly excellent! Our server Nick was very attentive and helpful. He was super understanding and friendly (my sister and I had my toddler and infant with us). He had great recommendations, and he made sure we always had items to dip in our fondue and plenty of sauce for our entrees and water in our glasses. We had a Groupon, and he still paid us the same attention and courtesy as if we'd have come with no discount. He even continued to check on us after we'd already paid our bill).
We were there during happy hour and wanted to avail of the happy hour prices for chocolate fondue, which was not included on our Groupon. Technically, we were supposed to move to the bar or patio for the happy hour deal, but the lady who served us for happy hour was understanding of our situation (ie the two little kids - one of which had fallen asleep by the end of our entree course) and let us enjoy our chocolate fondue at our original table and even honored the happy hour price despite it being the end of happy hour by the time we were ready for dessert.
We will DEFINITELY be back! This was some of the best service I've ever experienced at any restaurant! Oh, also, the food was excellent!
It was a week full of bad dining experiences and this one started off similar, however they did what the others failed. The redeemed themselves and actually made things right and at the end of the night made us satisfied.
Upon arrival we were seated in a section where the seats were broken. We requested to be moved to another area and again the seats were broken. This was ridiculous. We brought it up to the staff attention but the first lady provided with an excuse and not a resolution. Since we were having bad experiences in service i started my watch timer to see how long it would take for someone to check in and acknowledge us or take our beverage service. It almost took 10 min and we wanted to walk out but we were starving and my partner really wanted to try this restaurant.
Once our waitress checked in on us and we advised her of the situation she provided resolutions. The manager came by to fix the booth chairs and apologized for the situation.
Although the waitress was fairly new she carried herself as a veteran. She was very open, friendly, and professional and is a great addition to the staff. She apologized a few times because she didn't know certain specifics of the menu because she was learning them but the service she provided was great. Because of her customer service she turned everything around and had us leaving satisfied.
The food was also fabulous. It was a great experience, very filling and flavorful. The dipping sauces for the veggies and meat were to die for. The manager told us about a little trick they do in the kitchen and then offered us to try it and it was fabulous.
Overall i have to say i will be retuning to this location and look forward to another pleasant meal. Next time i hope that the experience is pleasant from start to finish.
