The Melting Pot - La Jolla Ratings and Reviews
Super nice and competent server, Janet, and the staff was very pleasant. The only complaint is that I was told this chain was an upscale place to bring someone for a special birthday. When I got there the place was clean but rather run down. There are nicks all over the wood, it needed paint on the bathroom doors as they are all chipped and the toilet seats were stained and worn out. Also, our booth's fabric was torn and the booth bench did not reach all the way to the wall. There was a gap between the wall and booth which my guest almost fell into while sliding over to make room for others in our party. Pretty bad impression. Did not care for the entree, but the bread and cheese appetizer and the chocolate fondue dessert was a lot of fun to eat and tasted good. I'd go back for those but only super casually - not for anything special.
The reservation we made through Open Table was virtually ignored. We had to wait 45 minutes past our appointed time to be seated. Service was a little slow. Inefficient. I summoned the Manager to express our disappointment, but he said there was nothing he can do. Probably won’t return. Food was pretty good.
My wife’s birthday dinner. Josh was our server. He did an outstanding job and the food was great. He brought us what we asked for and kept it coming. I had chocolate dipped strawberries too for my wife. It’s $30 extra for the strawberries. Overall a great restaurant and fun to play with your food while you eat. Only bad part was one woman sitting a few booths away kept talking on her phone sort of loud but the rest of the restaurant was quiet as we went early at 4:30pm to beat the crowd. Very nice for special occasions. We will be back.
We loved the service overall and we enjoyed our server Jonah very professional he has excellent attencion and service skills. It was a just because date/outing with my sister whom works 12 to 16 our shifts. I wanted to treat her to something good with extra special attention and we both were extremely satisfied with my Melt Pot dinner choice.
After the salads, waited more than 30 minutes, no food no waiter. Ready to get up and walk out, but wife chickened out so had to flag another wait staff to get our food. Nothing spectacular foodwise, first plate of filet mignon and marinated beef were tender, not so for the second plate. Very disappointed.
We have been here before, so knew what to expect and what we wanted to order.
Only complaint that I have is that the service was uneven, We had the 4 course dinner. Took a long time to have our order taken. We finished first course 1 hour after our sit down time. Next two courses came in reasonable time, but dessert course took extra long. Entire dinner took 3 hours and we were not not slowing by extra long conversation
We used to go to the Pasadena CA location before they closed. There food quality was great and we received a good amount of food to cook. In the past few years it seems they have reduced the quantity of food you receive and have lowered the quality of the meats. We followed their instructions on how long to cook each meat by timing it on our phones while cooking. Everything came out dry and tasted bland. They give you about 10 different dipping sauces which we ended up dunking our food into just to somewhat enjoy the meal. We ordered the Classic meat and the Surf & Turf. There prices are high, and you definitely do not get what you pay for. The La Jolla location was a big disappointment.
We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation time, only to walk past several open tables. After being seated it took another 15 minutes to get drinks, and this trend continued. After 2 hours of dining, we had just finished our salads (course 2 of 4). We asked the waitress to cancel the remaining courses and left.
For what you pay, the portions weren’t really worth it. The waitress was very attentive when it was only a few people, and then we were forgotten about. It was annoying to constantly have the hostesses walking by us every few minutes, to check if we were almost done. It was hot where we sat as well.
Great fondue experience - we have done both dinner and dessert now and really like both. Only comment on the sweets selection is the "portions" or sauces are quite small for what they charge but really like the fact that you can have unlimited dipping selections so we opted for more fruit as the Marshmallows are bit much to dip into the sweet sauces.
Very sad about our New Year's Eve experience. I would normally chalk it up to being New Year's Eve but when your waitress proactively covers your drink bill due to the terrible service and encourages us to write an honest review so the "owners" can see how bad it was, there isn't much else I can say. We had a 7:30 dinner reservation. Upon arrival, we were told we would be notified when our table was ready, no estimated time, no offer of wait in bar...Once at our table about 20-25 mins later, it took another 15 minutes for a server to come by to ask if we had been greeted and said she would take the table...Clearly, we were not in her section and she picked us up. It was freezing in the restaurant - my daughter and I huddled together with my husband's suit coat over our laps for the entire 3 hour meal - yes 3 hours it took from reservation time to when we left. We would have left sooner but since it was a price fixed menu we had paid for our deserts and we figured we had been there that long....It took 2 hours to get to our main course, again a fixed menu choice. The best part was the bright shining light that hit my husband's face like he was being interrogated at the police station. Not only was the light there the entire time but for at least 1/2 hour the light brightness increased and took 2 times to request it be dimmed. I have dined at the Melting Pot before and specifically sought out this place for our send off of 2017. I will be hard pressed to want to dine at Melting Pot - La Jolla again....
First time patron. Very good service and a fun experience! I recommend the 4-flight wine pairing to go with each course. It seems like small portions but it fills you up... come hungry - you totally want to have room for dessert! A bit pricey and takes some time (about 2.5hrs) but totally worth it for a special occasion or group outing to share the fun times together.
Mixed feelings about this place lol we had an eventful first time. Long-ish wait but we let that slide. 2 of us ordered wine and the server got the wrong wine, wrong size. Then we got brought the wrong chocolate . Then when the new chocolate came out it had a hair but we were so shocked we didn’t say anything after we had already taken everything back. I want to come back though because even though our actual waiter made tons of mistakes, the other waiter Micah made up for it. Coming back for cheese next time (:
It was delicious, but not an appropriate place to take kids. It's really annoying when I pay a babysitter to watch my kids, so I can have a romantic night out with my husband, and they sit a screaming 3yr old right behind us. Please, if most of the plates cost $50+, take that as a sign to get a baby sitter.
If you have never been to The Melting Pot, then you have to at least once. Especially if you like playing with your food. I would describe the quality of the food and the portion to price ratio to be mediocre and dissapointing. The booth seating in this restaurant is very cheap. I could feel the people behind me puncturing their elbows into the back of my seat. I would reccomend this restaurant purely for the experience and not for the food itself. Also, you might as well save your $100+ and take your date out to In N Out and a concert instead. Rock on!
Not too fancy not too casual. Can be quiet or quite noisy depending on the crowd! Ambiance and service were good, but not great like my previous two visits which was slightly disappointing. Meal for two was around 130 (excluding tip)- worth it for the experience ( date had never been to a fondue restaurant). Value could be a bit better but overall very nice
We came here for my husband’s birthday for lunch and it was a fun experience. There were four of us and plenty of food to share two four course entrees with an extra dessert side. Everyone had a great time and our server Courtney was really attentive and knowledgeable. The only thing that detracted from our lunch was the temperature of the room. It was freezing to the point that jackets were not enough. I highly recommend you come prepared. Maybe during dinner time when there are lots of pots going it is nice but for lunch it was too cold.
The Melting Pot did not disappoint. This time we experienced Endless Fondue - it was a great chance to sample some of the meats I hadn't before. I found I loved the chicken and shrimp as well as the steaks. Our waitress did a superb job of keeping our iced teas full and our sauces and meats refilled s needed. The meal was perfectly paced and very tasty! A wonderful birthday evening (the chocolate covered strawberries for the special day were certainly a tasty treat!)
Should really be ashamed. Rates top 3 in my worst dining experiences ever. If it wasn't for my wonderful g/f I would have walked out before we were even sat. Checked in for reservation 10 mins early as we were the only ones in the lobby I thought to get a drink. Bartender greeted us and then it was downhill from there. While she was too busy cleaning the bar to stop and hand us a cocktail menu she continued cleaning and then went out to the patio to check on her tables, when she returned to the bar instead of asking us if we wanted a cocktail, asked one of the servers if they were busy? Indicating that she kept getting sat. Since we were ignored for 10 mins we went back to the lobby and waited. Waiting became the theme of the evening. Our server was missing in action most of the night, waters were empty on more than one occasion for over 10 mins, I asked for a wine list and the server never asked me if I wanted a glass of wine upon return. Each course had a minimum 30 minute delay which wasn't a problem because I had great company, but our dinner turned into a 3 hour long saga that never seemed to end. Anytime she was at our table did her best to pick up the pieces of the horrific server. Granted I observed the server when we sat down she had 3 tables at the time. Singing the names of items as you deliver them was not something that was desired for our experience. I will say the saving grace was Hannah (curly hair w/ glasses) she saved our experience from being completely horrible making sure to facilitate our needs with a smile and professionalism. 3hours not even a manager or supervisor was visible during the experience to complain to or I would have asked them to move us since the picture on the wall next to us was covered with splatter from previous guests and fruit flys that decided to join us for dinner. I will say that there are many more challenges I could have written here if given the room. nearly $200...and for what?
