The Melting Pot - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
Went here to ask my girl to ask her to marry me. Server was the best. Unfortunately the burner wouldn't work, and the food was very slow. Never got a chance to ask. Ran out of time had to meet others after dinner. Never got to eat other than bread, raw vegetables, and melted cheese. No main course. They still charged me over a hundred dollars for leaving hungry.
Our server -Gage- was HORRIBLE ! Twice we had to ask someone to go find him. He disappeared for 45 minutes after leaving us with hot oil to cook our main course. Fine except all we had was the oil...no food! It was the worst service we have had on years. One would think after complaining twice a manager would have come over or at least someone should have adjusted our bill.
I am super disappointed in my experience. I have had this restaurant on my dining list for a couple years now and was sadly let down. It took nearly 15 min to get a server to the table after we had been seated. He wasn’t very welcoming when he did arrive. I almost wonder if our server was drunk or on drugs with the way he was acting. When we told him it was our first time to the Melting Pot he never took the time to explain the process or make any suggestions, he just pulled the menu out of our hands while we were looking at the wine menu said “most people do the 4 course meal”. He put the menu back on the table in front of us said “so did you want wine? You can decide what you want to eat while I get you your drinks”. So with no suggestions and not really understanding the process we made our choices. While refilling my glass of water he over shot my glass and spilt water and ice into my lap. The server next to us dropped a plate of sauces on the floor next to our booth and no one ever cleaned it up, so we had a mess next to our table most of the night. My husband ordered a beer to go with his dinner and our server forgot it. He had to ask for it twice and his dinner was almost gone before he ever brought it. When he brought us our check he hovered near our table and asked us 2 different times within 3 min if we were ready for him to take the check. We still had half the plate of dessert left. It was our anniversary dinner and I had hoped it would have been a better experience. The process was fun and I probably would have loved it had I had a better server but unfortunately I will probably never go back.
First of all, I have always loved each and every time we have been to The Melting Pot. Great atmosphere, private booths with a curtain for the best intimate date with that someone special, amazing food and excellent service! During the last visit we made however, I was very disappointed in the chocolate fondue dipping items. The plate was not "filled" full of scrumptious delights! When I questioned the server about where the cheesecake bites were, he said they were no on the "premium" chocolate menu. There were 3 of us dining and found the selection of items was poor. A couple cookie bites, brownie bits, marshmallow crispy treats, slivers of strawberries, pineapple and bananas, 2 chocolate coated marshmallows and a handful of stick pretzels. The waiter did bring out six more brownie bites for my grandson; however there was plenty of chocolate leftover in the pot since the snacks were gone.
Truly a waste of good yummy chocolate just left behind but next time I will remember to slip some extra goodies in my purse so the chocolate will not go to waste! This is the reason I made the restaurant 4 stars vs 5 stars.
We were disappointed in the service and ambiance and how long we had to wait between courses. Our waitress was not personable at all. We were there for 3 hours which was way too long and the fact that we were celebrating our daughters birthday wasn't acknowledged at all, even though when I made the reservation I specified birthday occassion. We have celebrated special events there in the past but we were so disappointed this time that this most likely will be our last visit. We will make our fondue at home.
The wine was delicious! The atmosphere was private and quiet! Great for a date night with the hubby! Cheese fondue, salad, main entree, and delicious chocolate fondue. Every part of the meal was exquisite. For everything we got and the amazing customer service the price was worth every penny! We will be going back soon!
My gf and I went for date night it was a very fun experience and we had to take our 2 year old son because our sitter fell through and didn’t I now have how it would go but he had as much fun as us. We did the date night for 2 which is pricey at $99 per couple but you get so much delicious food and the experience is a lot of fun, it took us about 2 hours to get through all 4 courses. The service was great as well!
We love about 3 hours away and this was our first time eating at The Melting Pot. A friend recommended it. The food was alright. We did the 4 course meal for 100 bucks. The cheese was pretty good. We both had a salad with ranch, and that was good as well but, it wasn’t very big. It came time to cook our meat, the server was super helpful letting us know how long we need to cook everything. Ok, the amount of meat you receive is kind of shocking. I can tell you are paying more for the experience than anything. Last but not least...the dessert! It was so good! I would go there just to eat dessert. We got the chocolate s’mores fondue. Strawberries, bananas, pineapple, brownies, Rice Krispies, and they even offered to give you extra of whatever you liked. I don’t see myself ever going there to eat an entree, but the cheese and chocolate fondue is a must.
We have been to the Melting Pot many many times. The last 3 visits haven’t been that great. One time we had multiple gnats flying around every where, the second time they were out of a lot of regular stuff, and this most recent visit, the service was horrible. We waited for about 10 minutes before anyone came to get our drink order, then another 15 for it to actually be brought out by someone else. It was probably another 15-20 before anyone came to take our order. The first course was brought be a manager. We never had the same person twice until toward the middle-end. It seemed like we weren’t really seated in someone’s section. While they were friendly and warm, it was still ridiculous.
It's been at least 5 years since I've eaten here, but once I walked in and spoke with the hostess, I remembered why I didn't want to go. Stuck up! Every. Time! I'd rather spend more time and money at any other restaurant. Service was OK, but again, not very forthright with information. We had to press him several times for more information that would have been easy for him to share to begin with.
We had to wait over an hour for our server to return to our table and clear our dishes from the 3rd course and to order our 4th course, then it was an additional 25 minutes for us to actually get our 4th course. It started off great, then they must have ran into some problems -- my husband had to go up to the front desk to finally get someone to clear our main course plates and then they never came back for the check - so we ended up leaving a bigger tip than I wanted to for the bad service. . .we won't be going there again. Our bill was $325 and they basically forgot about us - no apology, nothing taken off of our bill for the mishaps. . .
We had a very nice time. We had a great selection. The food and variety were very good. We plan to take some friends with us soon, that have never been here, to celebrate our long time friendship. We think they will really enjoy it too. It can be a little pricey so unfortunately we do not feel like we can go often and justify the expense.
I was a little worried that the quality of our experience wouldn't be as great due to a late reservation after 9 pm but it was actually delightful! The area was a lot more quiet than it would have been in the middle of dinner rush and the staff was all very professional, polite, and friendly! All in all, amazing food, service, and even the setting inside where we were seated. Great experience, excited to go BACK!
