The Melting Pot - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
The food was okay and the service was unusually slow. My husband and I have dined here previously and it has always been an excellent dining experience. We were surprised that the service was not at It's usual high level . Even so, the Melting Pot is a fabulous place to have a romantic dinner.
My girlfriend and I went to the melting pot to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Neither of us had ever been. The ambiance was very nice and all of the staff was friendly. We were seated and given menus, and our waiter (can’t remember his name but I think it’s Adam) was fabulous. Very helpful showing us how the melting pot works. Our only complaint was the table next to us was loud and belligerent. The food was amazing and the price is a bit high but the value is good.
Everything was good. The server seemed really busy, but it wasn’t busy in our area. Reservation was for 130p. Was sat around 145p, than we didn’t get drinks and the 1st part of our fondue till 230p. We were a bit hungry by than. We didn’t finish till 430p.
Even if it was a special occasion which it was not. Just a girls day. It went very long for a an afternoon luncheon.
I will be back because we like the whole thing, but training servers is a must.
We have been repeat customers at this location for the last 10 years, and actually got engaged here. It’s sad to say that over the course of that 10 years the service level has continued to drop in quality. We came this time for our Anniversary as we do almost every year at this time. This time a deviation occurred to our regular course of action which was a family member calling ahead and paying for our meal. However since we enjoy a particular meal when we come to the Melting Pot things did not coincide with the package that was paid for by our family member. This threw a total kink in things as there seemed to be no way of just applying what our gift from the family member was to what we actually wanted to order. Not to mention the fact that we were seated and waited 15min for our server to arrive at the table before giving up and going to the hostess station to find out why we hadn’t seen our server yet. A failure of communication that the restaurant was short staffed could have made for a much more understandable time, but alas that didn’t happen till after the fact. Going back to the gift from our family member, since no one had an inkling of how to handle the situation it ended up turning something nice that someone tried to do into a headache and in the long run we just paid for the meal ourselves and took that satisfaction of a good deed away from our family member. Who I think was a manager took over our table after the failure of the original server and did a good job in terms of expected normal service. In short the meal itself was good but the way in which the circumstances were handled was severely disappointing.
I surprised my significant other for date night. When booking our reservation, I asked for some special favors. The Melting Pot absolutely came through by placing us in the quietest, coziest little room all to ourselves where there was a rose and card waiting on the table. Our very kind waiter made us feel very welcome and also took a picture for us without hesitation. Along with the romantic feel, the food was absolutely wonderful and the drinks were to die for. Needless to say, my significant other (and I) loved everything about it!
I made a reservation for a date so we could grab something to hold us over until dinner later in the evening and while we strolled around the Nelson-Atkins museum. The service was amazing, always is. Since we just did the cheese and chocolate we were in and out relatively quickly. It was early in the day so very quite. This place is superb, great for a date and the bar area could also be fun and suitable for a less romantic outing.
It was my birthday. Our server took a long time to finally greet us. when he finally did, he did not take our drink orders or ask us if we wanted an appetizer. We had been there 30 minutes before actually being officially greeted. We were very hungry and anxious to get started. The server we had behind us was excellent. I even told him that I was going to request him the next time we were there. The experience was great, the food was delicious and I will definitely be back to try something else.
It was our first time and definitely not our last. I’d recommend experiencing this restaurant without kids. We had the four course experience and it was phenomenal from start to finish. With the four course you get an appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert. We ordered 2 but we came hungry any other day it is definitely something we’d split. It’s a lot of wonderful food. Oh and be prepared to have a meal that last for at least an hour or more. Ours lasted 2. It was wonderful to actually sit and converse with my husband without any interruptions. The atmosphere was intimate, at least where we sat, and all ages friendly. It’s pricey but I felt it was worth it. The decor of the restaurant was a bit dark, a little dated, but very clean. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. The other servers that passed were helpful to us as well. We went at lunch tine which to me was perfect. There wasn’t very many people there and it felt like we had the restaurant to ourselves. We had a wonderful time and I highly recommend this restaurant.
We had a great time for Ladies Night at the Melting Pot. The cheese we chose was the Wisconsin Cheddar and we added the Boulevard Wheat to it, and had the original chocolate. They were both great! Highly recommend going to Melting Pot on Mondays for the Ladies Night special!
Every time we go to the melting pot we have phenomenal service. However our two hour, drive to KC was, bombarded by the rudeness of the gentleman checking people in. We drove up to the city for my birthday and called ahead to see if we needed to make reservations. We were told the bar is always open, and reservations are not necessary. We were just looking to get our annual birthday dessert. We arrived and were told we could only go to the bar which was fine. We walked into the bar and were not acknowledged for about 5-8minutes. When the bar tender finally greeted us she said “ what do you need”. We asked if it was self seating or would we be seated. She said well we are only doing drinks. We told her the gentleman up front said desserts and drinks. She said well I don’t know what to tell you we are only doing drinks.
I told the guy up front what happened and asked how long would we have to wait for a table. He told us that they’re not taking anymore walk ins, and that all reservations are full.
We walked out and went to reserve a table online, and there was a table for 1930 avilable. There were actually serveral times available for 2 people.
Walked back in and were seated within 15 minutes. Could not believe how bad the service started. However our server Gabriel was wonderful. We’ve never had a bad expirence till Sunday. It made me sad cause we drove so far just for my birthday and were treated so unkindly.
Gabriel definitely made up for it! He was great we will probably be requesting him from now on! Despite the initial interaction dinner was great!
We were very disappointed... We went during restaurant week. The food amounts were extremely small and very bland. The meats and veggies were very bland as they are boiled in stock at the table. Have you ever had boiled filet mignon or chicken? It would be better to put small hibachi's at the table! I understand the portions are much smaller during restaurant weok. There were multiple fillers (bread, carrots and potatoes), but small portions of meats and other veggies. The house raspberry vinigarette on the salad was great, but overpowered by the blue cheese. The dessert fondue was very much worth the additional cost, and had close to 40 items to dip! We were seated in a private section, but about 20 minutes into our meal, a group of about 10 very loud woman were seated next to us. They were drinking, so their volume kept increasing! We couldn't even hear each other from across the table! Nothing was done to quiet the group or make us more comfortable with the situation. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for many years. I am glad I did it during Restaurant Week, so I didn't waste a lot of money!
We went for restaurant week. The food was great as always! I started the experience with a Yin and Yang! What a yummy creamy cocktail! We went with the Wisconsin cheddar cheese fondue. Just the right amount of garlic! I had the California salad and it was delicious.
I like that we could choose our meats for the entree course since I’m not a seafood fan.
We went with the dark and dolce for our chocolate course. My husband isn’t a huge dark chocolate fan but with the dolce added — he really enjoyed it too. We added on one of the special dippers since he’s not a huge fruit fan. Plenty to share.
My husband and I went here this year for restaurant week. We have visited the melting pot for restaurant week for the last 3 years. Unfortunately, this year, they changed their lunch menu and didn’t offer the $16/per person lunch as they have in past years. When we were seated in our booth, we quickly found that the booth had not been dusted/cleaned in awhile. There were large dust bunnies lining the wood ledges of the booth and inside the can light directly above our fondue pot. My husband made a comment to the effect of “they must keep the lights dim in here for a reason.” The food was great as always and our server was good, however after this year’s experience, we most likely won’t be back. $100 (including tip) for lunch for restaurant week was a bit much and the cheesy 90’s love music did not help the cause.
