The Melting Pot - Grand Rapids Ratings and Reviews
Not only did we get handed off to another waitress mid evening, but it seemed we were forgotten more often than remembered. Took 45 minutes to take our order. Entire meal (cheese, meat and dessert) took 3.5 hours. We even skipped one course and took our salads to go! We were there for my birthday and they didn't give me the 6 chocolate covered berries from my rewards email. I even called ahead like the email requested. It was so ridiculous, all we could do was laugh. I don't recommend, unless you are only going for dessert. Even then, expect to be there for 3 hours.
It was an enjoyable experience, though we only wanted the entrée, and our waiter didn't bother asking if we wanted the entrée or the 4 course. And not to put all the blame on him, we should have said something. The cheese was great, the broth had very little flavor, we took the chocolate home, though it would have been nice to have directions as to how long the chocolate should be heated for. Apparently one minute is too long. It's definitely a place to go if you have the money to spend. The 4 course dinner ends up being nearly $50 after tip.
we were in town for a sporting event and we were thrilled to dine at Melting Pot. It is one of favorite restaurants and the location closest to us closed. We enjoyed a fabulous meal and Nick was a terrific server. He recommended some items on the menu different from our “usual” and they were fantastic!
The food was good, but not worth the price. Also because my daughter doesn't like salad we didn't order her the four course meal. It cost us $10 more just so she didn't have a salad. The server should have told us it would be more. She could have easily just not eaten the salad when it came and saved money. This place isn't cheap so to waste money which could have been avoided annoyed me.
Overall the food was good and the service was ok, but not worth the price. If we go again we will probably just do dessert.
Melting Pot hosts a Ladies Night and the entire restaurant was filled and the atmosphere was energized, as one would expect. We enjoyed the activities prior to dessert and were impressed at the unique services and products. The service was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed a leisurely Land and Sea dinner. The fondue experience is perfect for a relaxed dinner, where there is plenty of time to converse. And what’s better than a delectable dark chocolate fondue and a generous plate of creative food items to dip and savor!
We have been going to The Melting Pot restaurants for over 30 years. Our first experience was on our honeymoon in Clearwater Florida. We typically go for our anniversary. This year our Daughter and Son in law gave is a gift card to The Melting Pot. We have been to this one in Grand Rapids before and were not very impressed. But we were positive because our other visits to this franchise has been very good.
We were seated in a very cramped cubical booth. We had no view of anything and were right next to the bathrooms. I'm 6'2" and I found no room for my legs. Our server was pleasant but did not do a good job of checking on us. We found ourselves waiting for long periods of time between courses. At one point I had to go searching for her. I never found her and when I asked another server where she was he didn't know either. When she did come back she was very rude.
We have decided not to return to this restaurant. If you do go I would suggest you ask for a regular booth.
had reservations for 915 arrived at the restaurant at 910 informed the hostess I had a 915 reservation for VanVolkinburg, she replied ok it would be just a few minutes. after observing several parties arrive and be seated I began to wonder how far they were behind on the reservations. after chatting with another patron and he informed me they didn't have a reservation he was seated I then asked the hostess why I had been waiting for over 20 minutes for my reserved table as it was now after 930. she said she was sorry but the other hostess put me down as just a waiting for table available, I clearly reminded her she was the one I specifically spoke to not the other hostess that she had been chatting with, laughing with and playing on their phones with. food was awesome and waiter was very informative about everything. Besides the wait of 20 minutes both times a beer was ordered ( it shouldn't take 20 minutes to pop open a bottle of beer) the service from the waiter was good.
My husband and I had a wonderful time at our dinner tonight! Everything was delicious and perfect! Chris is an amazing server, he's an awesome people person and he made sure we were well taken care of! His suggestions were tasty as well when asked to surprise us with a drink of his choice!
Very disappointed. My husband and I were finally able to make a trip to the melting pot and have been looking forward to going here for awhile. Our reservation was for 8 PM made a couple weeks in advance. When we arrived were were greeted by one of the three hostesses and told out table would be ready in just a moment as they were cleaning it off. 35 minutes later we were finally seated. We looked the menu over and the food sounded really good so we were very excited. After 25 minutes of sitting at the table watching servers walk by we ended up leaving without ever being greeted. We were so bummed! We spent an entire hour in the restaurant without ever being able to even get a water and left hungry. My husband was the most disappointed because this was what he had planned for us to celebrate our first Valentine's day as a married couple.
My boyfriend and I came out to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We got seated right at 7:30 but it took a total of THREE HOURS to fully serve us our four course meal. Missed our 10:45 movie time and sat there for two hours waiting for our uncooked meat to come out so we could cook it ourselves. Server was kind and pleasant. Very quiet. Asked other server if he was new- turns out he had been around for a while. Below par service & personality. Never once did our server physically refill our drinks in the 3 hours we were there. Other servers did it for him. Asked a few times for a couple extra dippers- dippers never arrived. Never did our server ask us how our food was tasting. Terrible conversationalist. Impressive knowledge of the food and his job- lack of social interaction and personality. I watched a couple kitty corner from us be sat and never greeted. The couple sat there for a total of about 10 minutes and left because they had gone unnoticed. Will not be coming back for a long time.
Not sure if place was understaffed or employees were having an off night? Please work on training your team members to improve their communication with their tables and speed.
Beautiful resuraunt. Have never had a problem here before- this last visit has left a very sour taste in my mouth.
My boyfriend and I went for Valentine’s Day this past week and it was both of our first times being at the Melting Pot, all that we could say after the evening was done was that it was so amazing and worth every single penny. Our server, Amanda, was so great as well! She was really knowledgeable about everything that was being served and even gave us a little bit of extra fun facts about different things. She really made the experience that much better! We will most definitely be back for more date nights!
I got the Ultimate Romance package. Now I’m not much of a wine drinker, so I was clueless on what to get. Our waiter, Chris, was very knowledgeable and helpful on helping us choose a wine. He talked us through how the dinner was supposed to go and he always had a smile on his face. He wasn’t pushy, but he didn’t stay away for too long. All in all this place is wonderful, the staff is amazing, and I would go again in a heartbeat if I could afford it!
The food was very good as always, but the service was extremely slow. The table next to us probably saw their server double what we did. He did not explain the process and was very rude when we did not order cheese. I would go back because I like the food and the experience but I did not like that server.
We made our reservation almost 2 weeks in advance and I requested a private table, also told the woman who called to confirm my table request. When we got there we were seated next to a large birthday party with several teenagers that were basically screaming to each other across the table. I was so frustrated since we hardly ever get to have romantic dinners.... I addressed the issue with the hostess and she immediately moved us to a table in the designated couples area and I was so pleased. We went on to enjoy a wonderful meal and have a beautiful night together.
I was so disappointed. We have been here before, always for my birthday. They kept saying Happy Valentine's Day. I made it clear it was for my birthday, I even had a coupon for free chocolate covered strawberries for my birthday. We paid extra for a coating that you deep fried at the table. It was horrible. Everything was sticking to the bottom. It was heating at first then, was burning the coating and my chicken wasn't cooked in the middle. The veggies just tasted like grease. Our waiter said it was so good and everyone loved it. It was nasty. The batter never stayed on the chicken or steak. We added to the dessert with cheesecake and this puffs with a cream in the middle. They were frozen solid. I said something to the manager and she was nice enough to bring 3 more. Those were frozen as well. We had to wait for water 3x until someone finally filled it. They had a big party in that our waiter was dealing with, assuming it was a teen birthday party. We felt like the back burner table. For $115.00 the food wasn't good and the service was par.
We book the reservation for the Princess Tea Party. It was great. My daughter had a wonderful time with the other princesses and the special tea party had crafts and crown making with kid friendly tea and lemonade. The meal service was a little slow between courses (took 30 minutes between the cheese course and the meat course, the 30 minutes was with the broth for the meat boiling on our table waiting for the meat)
Other then that it was a great time, reasonably priced for bringing a child. Was definitely worth it and I would recommend it.
First off, the food was excellent. The fact I cooked it myself doesn't say much to the restaurant though other than they had good choice of ingredients and quality meat. Our server was good though my water only got filled 2 times in the 2.5 hours of eating there. It mostly sat empty.
This dinner was for my girlfriends birthday as she loves going here so I had requested their chocolate covered strawberries with my reservation per the instructions on the website. That request was ignored and my girlfriend was disappointed about that. Also during reservation i was asked if this was for a special occasion and I said it was my girlfriends birthday. During dinner, every table around us was greated with "I see its your birthday dinner tonight, happy birthday," our greeting was, "Welcome, what are you here for tonight?" I guess they just dont pay attention to the questions they ask.
Long and short of it. If you set a reservation for here and request anything or if its for any special reason. I would call a day before and make sure they actually got the message.
We were celebrating our son moving to Grand Rapids and getting a new Engineering job. The server, Michelle, happened to be from the small town where he will be working. She was an excellent waitress and took time to help us learn about the town, and places to visit during our time here . We had traveled here for helping him get moved in all the way from Florida . Not knowing anyone in Grand Rapids or at Federal Mogul , she went out of her way to make sure we felt welcome and helped make the night very special. We appreciated the excellent food and service ! She made wonderful recommendations and we will definitely return to the Melting Pot .
We had a nice time. For 6 of us, the booth seating was not conducive. The seats were deep and it wasn’t worth continuously reaching over everyone to try the ‘other’ pot. A round table would have been better. The mule from the bar was made with a can of gingerbeer that was flat. It was corrected but should have been right the first time for the price. Our server was admittedly new-fine, but kept telling us what she DIDN’t know instead of what she did. We were there for 3 hours, a full hour after closing and we could tell there was some rush at the end. The guy overseeing the new employee was trying to straighten things out as we went and was very nice about it. The food was great, the time with my family was wonderful, the experience was new but I think next time for the price we might only come for dessert. A party of 4 would probably work better
