The Melting Pot - Gaslamp Quarter Ratings and Reviews
Always a pleasure. But absolutely didn't enjoy my 20th anniversary cause they had us seated next to the bar upstairs were people were watching a game, standing around and loud. Will never allow them to seat me upstairs. I could of sat out on the street and it would of been quiter. Was a waste of money for a quite nite out with my husband who is a combat veteran. The loudness of the people and the loudness of glasses being shuffled around on Bartop and dropped put his post traumatic strest disorder on edge.. set him off and our anniversary date night was ruined, right after dinner we had to go home. As the loudness aND the stress was too much. After all you only get one chance to celebrat your anniversary night
I went to the melting pot with my hubby and my parents. My husband and I always stop by the melting pot when we visit San Diego. On making my reservation through the OpenTable I was able to note my mother has a gluten free diet.
Our server was Thomas, what an amazing, upbeat, attentive guy. He went above and beyond to make sure my mother had plenty of options, he of course made sure the rest of us were happy. The food was absolutely delicious! I really cannot fault it! I would highly recommend stopping in for some dinner! Ask for Thomas to be your server! A truly memorable evening, with my loved ones, amazing food and spectacular service.
I arranged an anniversary dinner for my daughter and her boyfriend. The staff went above and beyond to make it so special for them and the food was amazing according to my daughter. They even put a card from me on the table. Thanks Melting Pot for making my daughters anniversary a night to remember!
The ambiance and the service were excellent. Also great to have a valet service next door so no struggle with finding a parking space. I go to the Gas Lamp restaurant even though the La Jolla one is closer because La Jolla never seems to have tables available. I also make my reservations early as a 4 course meal can take several hours. Most of the food was very good. We had some problems with the sauces provided for the meat entries, so I will have to do some research with their menu to choose better next time.
Johnathan was an amazing order. He took the time to explain the whole process and when he saw we were getting overwhelmed, he made is simple until we figured it out. He gave great recommendations and we were always well taken care of...the food was great, wonderful way to spend quality time with others with plenty of time for conversation.
First off, I've been to a Melting Pot in another state and since that was such a wonderful experience I decided to share a similar one with my fiancé. Only issue... the experiences were VERY different. Here are my pros & cons:
Cons: after making a reservation I had someone call to confirm, no issue there BUT they proceeded to ask if we were celebrating anything, not because they cared, but because they wanted to sell add on packages. I politely declined. Once arriving, we were asked again if we were celebrating anything. Nope, just on a date. Once our server arrived, we were asked again. Nope, just on date. And yet again when a manager (?) stopped by our table. NO, FOR GODS SAKE WE ARE NOT CELEBRATING ANYTHING. It didn't feel genuine, it felt like they wanted to use it as an excuse to sell us add on items. Now for our server, it felt like he was 1, listening to our conversation (which made me feel very uncomfortable) and 2, trying to constantly upsell us on items the entire time we were there. Its not like we weren't spending enough money and we ordered PLENTY food and drinks for the two of us... I do NOT enjoy feeling like all I'm good for is my money. Also, I felt like they were trying to flip our table, which I'm sure they were since it was a busy night, but it was quite obvious.
Pros: seated right at our reservation time, very romantic atmosphere, loved our seating (a curved booth for 2), speedy service.
At the other location (not sure if they are franchised??) it didn't feel like I was constantly being asked to add on items & it felt much more relaxed.
This was our first visit to the downtown location. We've always gone to La Jolla. I don't think there is a significant difference in the food or service so we probably will continue going to La Jolla because it's closer to home. It was thoughtful of the manager to come around and check how everyone was doing. Because our salads came shortly after our cheese course started, I felt a little rushed but the rest of the dinner went very well.
I was happy to try a new place for my anniversary I work downtown so I always pass by and see the restaurant. On Saturday September 23rd to took out my Girlfriend for our two year anniversary. I was happy with the rose peddles and Chocolate covered strawberries. We received the menu and could not figure it out for the life of me. Next we got help from a server who was very nice in explaining everything to us. We ordered the bacon and cheese jalopeno pot. The food was not great tasted only of really strong white wine. Next we ordered some meats and cheeses from the menu (once again not explained very well in the menu). That was good but for the prices you pay you expect a lot more.
Pros: seating was fast
Cons: overpriced, very dim lighting, and to much wine added to food.
It is a bit pricey but now that I have been there and had my first Melting Pot experience I will know how to order next time, but for the first time eating at the Melting Pot, it was delicious and the staff was attentive and very cordial, even the manager came over which was a thoughtful touch. The food was delicious and it is definitely an eating experience and I will make sure we take more time for dining next time , we had tickets for a show at the Civic Theater, as the dining experience can be lengthy but well worth it! Thank you, we enjoyed it very much.
My boyfriend and I loved the exclusive, yet romantic ambiance of The Melting Pot, Downtown San Diego. Our waiter, Johnathan, was great - very hardworking and accommodating. He made celebrating our birthday's very special. Plus, the 4 course experience is amazing and so filling! We can't wait to go back and try the spinach & artichoke cheese dip and flaming turtle chocolate dip.
8 of us celebrated our son's 18th birthday. We were seated in the room at the entrance. It had a nice large round table and sat us comfortably.
JUAN was awesome! He had help from Austin, Sarah, and Sasha and they were great, too. Dee, the manager, came in to make sure we were comfortable and offered a fan as the room is small and all the heat from us and the cooktops warmed up the room.
The food was good, and looks are deceiving as it doesn't look like a lot of food but you come out stuffed after 4 courses and I built my own. I started with the The Melting Pot House Salad with Peppercorn Ranch. The cheese course was next and the Quattro Formaggio was tasty and I was told so was the Bacon & Jalapeño. For the main course, we chose the Mojo and Seasoned Court Bouillon and I had Sesame-Crusted Ahi Tuna, Roasted Garlic Shrimp, and Basil Pesto Chicken.
The dessert was the best! Not only did our son get a slice of peanut butter pie, we all chose Caramel Toffee Crunch and the Raspberry Dark Chocolate.
This was my second time to the Gaslamp location and I enjoyed both visits. I would say going there is not something I would do all the time because it can be an expensive habit. But I would definitely go for special occasions.
Make sure to ask for Juan when you go!
My girlfriend & I had a very pleasant time. Our waiter, Jole, was amazing & very tentative. We went for our anniversary & they treated us very well. We got a card from the staff & everything. The food was amazing & the ambiance was delightful. I would definitely come back for another date night.
