The Melting Pot - Gaslamp Quarter Ratings and Reviews
While the food was high quality and flavored well the value for the money has deteriorated considerably over the years. For a family of 4 with two teenagers girls the total bill was over $300 (drinks were two $5 drinks for the girls and one bottle of $36 wine) and the total quantity for the four course meals was in the light meal range. Good food, great ambience and exceptional service.
First post of 2018: Thank you for giving us such a warm welcome and excellent food. The waitress did pretty awesome job and she had a smile the whole evening. We love everything on the menu from the starter to the dessert. Dark Chocolate fondue and a complementary Champagne paring were definitely kicking off our 2018
Upon arrival no one greeted us unless I spoke to the staff first, the servers seemed to forget about us for about 45 minutes while our assigned server was on a mandatory break. I understand everyone needs breaks, but I’ve also worked in the food service industry. At the very least she should have introduced us to the server who was covering/taking over for her. The food was good, but not anywhere near a $70 per person value. I would say $20 at most considering we cook it ourselves. I left disappointed and not wanting to return. For the price and hype this place gets I expected nothing less of outstanding service and a delicious meal, not even close to what we actually got.
Normally I love The Melting Pot, perhaps it was just the Gaslamp Quarter that was lacking. However, service was immensely slower than normal. You have to expect a minimum of 2 hours with a 4 course meal--- but 3.5 hours is just bad service. The server was slow and kept forgetting to give us stuff and then just drop it off without saying a word. Then he would involve himself in our conversations making us feel awkward (we didn't send a signal to invite him into the conversation). The manager knew the service was terrible, came over once in the beginning but never returned to ensure our satisfaction.
Our reservation was for 5:15pm and show at 7pm. We had to wait >5 min to be seated, with nobody else waiting, and drinks were not served until 5:45pm. The server did ask if we had show tickets, but then he stated that the 4 course meal would take approx. 90 min. We asked to speed it up a bit by ordering salads along with the cheese course. That was accommodated, but the service was still slow. We rushed through the entrees and had to take a rain check for the most anticipated chocolate dessert course. Although the food is delicious, this is not a restaurant to go to for a quick meal. We barely made our show time, but also have to go back to complete the meal.
Ok food. Not worth the money. Service was good.
This brand probably has a very low repeat customer rate. The experience is cool, but you leave feeling unimpressed with the food for the buck, and all members of your party saying the same thing: “yeah I’m glad we tried it, but I have no desire to eat there again.”
This was my second time coming to The Melting Pot and both times I've had the best experience. The employees are friendly and welcoming, the food is great and they have vegetarian options. Just note, this is not a quick bite location. This is a dining experience that will last about two hours so make sure to make a reservation ahead of time.
We went for my daughter’s birthday. It was my first visit. It was so loud in there I could hardly hear the server. I was also freezing the entire time. Cold air seemed to be blowing right at me.
The food was good. It was fun for my daughter.
I find the cost to be too high and was irritated seeing a note on the menu that 3% surcharge is added to the check to compensate for the increase to minimum wage. I don’t like a surprise being told how I spend my money beyond the cost of food.
The server was nice and knowledgeable.
With valet, which was necessary at the Gaslamp location, the total cost was about $300 for 4 people. There was no alcohol on the bill, strictly food and 4 soft drinks. Add parking and gratuity to that.
I probably won’t go again, but it was a fun one time experience. Not worth the money to me.
Well, when restaurants start cutting portion sizes and adding a 3% surcharge to my bill to pay for their wages is the day I quit going to these restaurants. Really saddens me. I really liked the Melting Pot!! Won’t be seeing me again !! I am a business owner in California as well. I can’t charge an extra 3% to my invoice!! Pay for your own employees!! Don’t be so greedy!!
My boyfriend and I ate here for our anniversary. We got one of the four course meals and everything was delicious. Our server was very informative and helpful and tried her best to make the evening special for us. We got the spinach artichoke cheese fondue and the mojo sauce for our meats and all the flavors were so good. They gave us some chocolate strawberries on a plate that said happy anniversary too. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion.
One word....Unreal. We loved every bit of it, we even stayed for dessert which we never do! We had The al la carte menu where you pick three proteins and so my husband picked three and I picked three and we shared. We shared a salad to start they are small but it was perfect because it is a lot of food including dessert. The pork and filet and sausage were delicious, the shrimp was so juicy and the duck as well. It was really interactive and fun and we love fondue at home so it was nice. They give you about 6 sauces which were all delicious. My husband had the melting pot mules and we loved the glass it came in so we bought two red ones for Christmas as they were only $8.99 if you bought the drink (without is $19.99), so you basically get a free drink and a glass. We each got a dessert and we could have just shared one portion as we couldn't eat it all. It was an amazing experience. The one and only thing I have to say to improve is to get more then one cooker as the table has to agree on the cooking oil flavour and the dessert because there is only one fondue pot per table. We would go back in a heartbeat.
Always a pleasure. But absolutely didn't enjoy my 20th anniversary cause they had us seated next to the bar upstairs were people were watching a game, standing around and loud. Will never allow them to seat me upstairs. I could of sat out on the street and it would of been quiter. Was a waste of money for a quite nite out with my husband who is a combat veteran. The loudness of the people and the loudness of glasses being shuffled around on Bartop and dropped put his post traumatic strest disorder on edge.. set him off and our anniversary date night was ruined, right after dinner we had to go home. As the loudness aND the stress was too much. After all you only get one chance to celebrat your anniversary night
