The Melting Pot - Farmingdale Ratings and Reviews
Our server was not very attentive. It took us 3 hours, which is normal, and she never asked any of us if we wanted a second drink. She also spoke way too quickly and was difficult to understand and had somewhat of an attitude, walking away from the table at one point when I was still speaking to her. The person who brought over our food was much nicer and actually asked us if we were celebrating an occasion, which I was celebrating my 40th. Our waitress was just not impressive for such an expensive night out.
Great dinner out with friends. Had the loaded baked potato fondue super yummy with the pretzel bites. For dessert had the salted caramel toffee fondue also so delicious. Great and knowledgeable service. And one thing that was a great surprise was an extensive “mock tail” menu for us prego ladies or just someone who doesn’t want to drink but wants to enjoy a fancy beverage.
I have been to The Melting Pot a total of 4 times. The first 2 times back last year were amazing. We had wonderful waiters. The last 2 times were terrible. The service is sub par and for the amount of money being spent, I expect better service. I was very disappointed.
Service was great our waitress was wonderful but just not my kind of place. Way too much work and cooking everything in one pot was a battle. Hard to tell when stuff was adequately cooked and safe to eat. Cooking steak in hot oil works but is certainly not the preferred method. The fondue was good but that's the only part our party enjoyed. Instead of talking and interacting we were too busy watching our IPhones and fit bits for cooking times, "fighting" for space in the pot. Food falling off forks and having to be scrapped off of the bottom of the pot. Batter wouldn't stick and would just fall off in the pot of oil leaving burning hunks of dough in the pot. Just too hard to do, I'd rather spend the money and go to a place where they cook the food for me.
The desert date was great until the waiter came over with the check ten minutes after we first got our food. After ignoring it to continue eating we were confused because we were going to order more food and drinks. It sat in the same spot and a few minutes later as were still visibly eating he says "did you take care of this" so i said no... we are still eating? very confused why we were rushed out of there when we were walking out all other tables were stil enjoying their food and being seated. SO SO disappointed.
Honestly, the last time I had been to a melting pot was years prior and not this location. At that time I would have said it was a fantastic restaurant, however, my opinion has since changed.
My main complaint was the service and how long EVERYTHING took.
1- I made a reservation, and waited about 10 extra minutes to be sat. Okay, fine, if they were busy, but they were at maybe 35-40% capacity at best and I could tell because they walked us to the back of the restaurant which gave me a pretty good idea of how busy they were/weren't.
2- After being seated (party of 4 by the way), we had zero interaction for a good 10 minutes before even being acknowledge, and with that acknowledgement came a "I'll be right with you for drink orders". Five minutes later we were asked for our drinks. Which took about another almost 10mins to get the drinks.
3- Although our waiter was nice enough, he took forever to do anything and really didn't have any personality at all. A bit dismissive maybe. And I understand, it's a tough job, I really do, but part of your job is faking it sometimes.
4- Food was okay at best, some was good, some was okay, and some was kind of bad. And once again, it took forever to get anything on the table. Speaking of food...how about the pricing.
5- When you're paying premium pricing for what very little quality proteins, you would expect all cuts to be perfect, right? Nope, quite a few had veins and extra fat.
I'm disappointed. I had hoped to relive the fun and enjoyable experience I had during my last visit to a melting pot. I can't say I'd never go again, but I'd never go to this location.
One positive note, the manager on staff was pleasant and quickly fixed a mistake made during the whole experience. Of course, nothing was offered for the inconvenience, but her attitude and efficient were appreciated.
Hey, maybe they whole place was just having a bad day. But, it's a bit of a gamble at $60-$75 a head not including more than one drink.
We celebrated my wife's birthday and I got the romantic package… The first time it was offered. We arrived at the table to find candles and rose petals and a bouquet of flowers with a bottle of champagne on ice. The server Sophia was fantastic, the meal was excellent, and the dessert and drinks were by far and away the best. This is why this restaurant is my wife and my favorite.
I recently came to the restaurant for an anniversary. It was my first time there and the place presented an experience like nothing else. From the food selection to the actual prep it was something you must come and experience for yourself. Writing about it doesn't do the restaurant justice.
My girlfriend and I spent our first night out after being apart for nearly a month at The Melting Pot. The experience was absolutely wonderful. The easy pacing of the four-course meal and cook time with the fondue allowed for great conversation. We could not have been more satisfied!
