The Melting Pot - Darien Ratings and Reviews
The food was fun and delicious. Our waiter was overworked with a large party and never around, but eventually the bartender and manager took our orders. The restaurant is divided into many sections with booths which adds to the intimacy of the shared fondue pot and quiet conversation.
The meat was good quality, but the vegetables were very bland and there weren't many of them. For five people we got about two cups of broccoli, potatoes and mushrooms for the main course. We did order more, but they (quite reasonably) leave you to it after dropping off the food, so we didn't get a chance to actually get additional vegetables until we had already finished the meat. The food was helpful to determine whether you want to buy a fondue pot, but it's overpriced for what you get otherwise. The server and hostess made us feel welcome
My friend and I were the only customers there for lunch then a few more arrived about half hour later. So that made for a quiet atmosphere. I thought it rather a dark atmosphere, but did not see the whole restaurant. Maybe there were more windows on the other side. Our server was very knowledgeable. The menu was rather difficult to decipher since it was our first visit. But Mario was very patient in describing the combinations which could be put together. The food itself was very fresh and delicious with quite a variety. We choose one serving of the main entre as it was enough for both of us after the massive cheese fondue starter for two with all the accompaniments. I did think a bit overpriced since we did 'all the cooking' and having to time the meat and fish. For the price, I like to be served my meal and not have to cook it. I would recommend it to a friend for the experience one time. Even though all the food was so fresh & delicious, I still thought it too much work.
Fondue is always a fun choice..interactive meals that create conversations. Melting Pot has honed the fondue prep and service to a T and it's a very enjoyable experience. However, the prices are ridiculous for the amount of food you get. Granted, if you start with a cheese and then go with a meat and fish entree followed by chocolate, it's very filling, but still: $56 for a few cubes of beef and duck, 2 shrimp and 2 pot stickers? Really?
The Melting Pot was a great experience! Everything was delicious, the staff was friendly, they explain everything very easily and overall it was really fun to be there! Would highly recommend, especially for special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries.
We love the Melting Pot and go out of our way to eat there every Christmas Eve. The four course meal is highly recommended, but set aside three hours to get the most of it. We usually get the vegetarian option because the selection is varied, but two of us this time had the ahi tuna and said it was terrific. Our favorite thing is to get the hot oil cook style, and to fill the mushroom caps with green goddess, dip in the tempura batter, and cook until brown. Delicious! This time we had the dark chocolate dulce de leche salted caramel fondue and it became an instant favorite for dessert!
Went out for my boyfriends birthday and Had balloons and chocolate to be set at the table beforehand and he loved it. I had been there before but he hasn't and our server explained everything so he could understand and gave suggestions that i haven't tried yet and really enjoyed. The only thing is that when it came time for dessert to sing happy birthday, it was just our server and I singing which was a little awkward but other than that it was an Overall great experience!
Went to the Melting pot with my wife to celebrate a dating anniversary. The food, service and ambiance was well worth the drive from Newtown. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who is celebrating a special occasion. They are very thorough and explain everything on the menu and the fondue process where you can't mess up. Awesome restaurant!
The food was great yet it was very time consuming. There was a little wait in between courses and dinner took almost an hour to cook and eat. I would enjoy coming for a happy hour and have some cheese and chocolate. Overall good experience but it took a very long time.
We were looking for something a little different and stumbled across this fun fondue place, part of a growing chain from what I understand. We started with a nice cheese fondue and then had assorted meats and vegetables for the main course. Suggest ordering 2 main courses for 4 people, that worked out nicely. Good service, reasonably attentive and informative (in a chain restaurant sort of way). Nothing authentic about it but fun nonetheless. Recommended!
I'd never been & my BF wanted to go for his birthday so we made the ride down from Newtown. There was plenty of parking directly adjacent to the restaurant which was easy to find, right off the main road. They close for a couple hours between lunch & dinner, something to be aware of if you have to drive into town from elsewhere & don't want to have to kill time. That being said, the downtown are we were in is super cute & there's plenty of shops and things to do & see to occupy an hour or so. We made reservations for 4 when they reopen for dinner & were seated promptly by a smiling, energetic, friendly hostess. Our table was down a short hall off the main section of the dining room right along the wine room that you can see into. From what I saw of the place other than just our table, youre never right on top of anyone else. The back of the booth & walls surrounding the booth & table are higher than average & afford a good deal of privacy for. They were cozy but you had space to move & place your things as well. Our waiter Will was great! From what I saw/heard all of their servers seem extremely knowledgeable about the menu & can answer any questions no hesitation. They make reccomendations based on what you order and personalize the experience with their favorites. He was the perfect balance of attentive without being hovering or pushy & our courses were perfectly timed as well. We were offered extras on all the sides for our appetizer and dessert (the veggies, bread, fruit etc that you dip in the cheese or chocolate). Some people may think the menu is a little pricey but For the amount of food I thought it was a good deal. We shared the "big night out " which was 51.95 p.p. or 99 per couple for 3 courses & I did not leave hungry. Also they offer gluten free options for everything on the menu & were very knowledgeable on those options as well. I would highly recommend the melting pot & we will definitely be going back!
Overall it was a great dinner and a fun experience. My only issue was the bartender. He was super swamped w restaurant drink orders that I sat and waited over 10 mins for a glass of wine. I dont have a problem waiting if hes crazy busy but an acknowledgement of "hey so sorry im crazy busy be right there" would of worked. Food was great.
