The Melting Pot - Darien Ratings and Reviews
Since my last visit to a melting pot the prices ha e gone up a good bit and the portion sizes have gone down. Our server didnt make the cheese fondue at the tAble and it didntvtaste as fresh. For all I know it came from a can. Server very inattentive and slow to respond to requests. Lacked the usual timing of a traditional melting pot. didn't let the main fondue cook whike we had our salads, so we had to sit there and stare at plates of meat until the fondue was hot enough to use. This happened all 3 fondue courses. Server also never brought me oil and lemon for my salad as asked, so I had to eat it dry because she never came back before bringing the cold fondue to heat up while we stared at our main entree mests. The worst waste of $165 I've ever experienced. Not sure I'll go back if it's going to be like this. This was supposed t o be a special night. Poor service and not enough food really ruined our Valentine Celebration.
My daughter celebrated her 15th birthday with 7 friends. I requested a round booth when I made my reservation, and the request was granted. I ordered the small balloon package- I think it was $9.95 or $14.95- and each girl ordered off the Little Dipper menu. $30 per person for cheese, entree, and chocolate. The girls were able to choose any two cheeses and chocolates off the regular menu, and they had about 5-6 entrees from which to choose. All left full, even eating off this kids' menu. With drinks, the bill was $299. The server, Julie or Julia, was great, as was the bartender. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a cheese course and salad while the girls dined for almost two hours. The manager checked in to ensure we were enjoying the visit. This is my family's go-to place for celebrations. It consistently offers a great experience. The girls had a great time. Overall, it was disappointing. They dont make the fondue at your table, the menu doesn't list all the ingredients and the heater at our table could barely keep the fondue at a simmer. It was taking 5 minutes to cook a piece of chicken. It certainly was not worth the cost or the drive time to get there.
For the price of the restaurant, the service was awful. People who were seated after us received their first course before we even had water brought to our table. The waiter tried to walk away before taking our full order and barely said anything. They had no personality. We were stuck in a corner and forgotten about. We went on a Tuesday night and it wasn't busy at all.
The only issue we had was that it was not made clear that it was a Pre Fixe menu for New Years and as a result our bill was a lot more (almost double) what we had been expecting. I understand that many restaurants do pre fixe menus on certain occasions but it should be made clear when reservations are being made (most places make it very clear on their website). Honestly, we probably would have dined elsewhere to keep our bill reasonable. It came to almost $300 for three people). Also we had a reservation and weren’t seated until much later than expected and as a result we spent the actual new year at midnight in the car driving home. I think that would have been avoided had been seated on time.
We had an 8:30pm reservation for the New Years Eve Night Out and we weren’t seated until 8:50pm. Then we were sat at a one burner, where we had to request that we get separate portions and types of cheese and chocolate even though we had to pay $75 per person. Then they sat a loud family down next to us where children watched loud videos on a tablet, then listened to rap music on their phones, until a waiter came over and told them to keep it down. Horns blew all night, and when it was finally time for our dessert, the chocolate was made incorrectly for both of us. We were supposed to get champagne with the dinner, but had to ask until we received a glass. Overall it was a pretty bad experience, and disappointing since we go to Melting Pot a few times a year but this last time left a bad taste in my mouth.
We went to one in Florida 17 years ago and since then have been here 4 or 5 times. We really enjoy the food, ambience and experience. The waitstaff is always tremendous in dealing with the customer and in doing their job but also informative with information about the food and technique.we enjoy the ambience around the holidays. Our 2 daughters 10 & 15 both love the food, all 3 courses. I have recommended your restaurant to several friends and family. I know of a least 2 of them have went on more than one occasion. We will see you soon The Mele family.
We’ve been in once before together and we felt we had a better Experience the first time around. The food was plated better, the salads were tastier and our waitress was much more attentive.
This time around our waitress seemed rushed or uninterested in making the food presentable or mixing it fully. Our salads looked thrown together with chunks of cheese not broken up or an uneven amount of cheese to tomatoe (for the Caprese salad) and even our entrees looked like they were tossed on the plate and rushed out. Usually they’re separated and piled nicely.
We’ve been going to this location in Darien, Ct for years. each time it seems a little more gets take away. Examples include price menu increases, smaller and smaller portions of salad, and the latest change is that they don’t even make the cheese fondue table side. The cheese was cold and gritty. Also, I was celebrating my birthday and there was no candle for me to blow out. Being a major milestone birthday it was a big disappointment. Service used to be great and now it seems the waiters are just rushing us through and not as friendly. It’s such a shame to see a place like this go downhill. Paying over $150 for 4! Is a lot of money. I don’t think it’s worth it anymore.
Portions are very small for the price. Quality of food is mediocre - in particular for the prices. Always seem to be understaffed (had to go find our waiter a couple of times.) If you want fondue it is the only choice you have in the area - it is what it is.
It was first time there and from the minute I sat down they walked me through the menu, different options, how to order. The food is good, and I left more than full. Great place for something new, and I will be going back. Great service! You will not be sorry.
