The Melting Pot - Columbus Ratings and Reviews
My biggest disappointment to this experience was the restrooms. I have not been to The Melting Pot in several years, and I couldn’t believe how much work the restrooms needed. My toilet would barely flush and my friend’s toilet seat was broke. The water coming out of the faucet to wash your hands was ice cold. I informed the hostesses of this, and they said “oh - the water is always that cold.” The restrooms are years behind needing remodeled. For what you pay for the food & experience, this should definitely be fixed.
Also - the wine list was disappointing. There was not a good selection, and the wines on the menu were not good wines, but overpriced for the options.
I’m not sure I would go back anytime soon, and would probably advise others to avoid the Columbus location until these upgrades are made.
Went there for an early Valentine’s Day date. Waitress opened the bottle of red wine and ended up getting splashed on the face, arm, and shirt with wine. Didn’t offer to take it off the bill or to pour an extra glass. We go there all the time and the service is hit or miss. Food was excellent as always. Just wish the price point would be a little better considering you have people that spill wine on you or forget your drink orders.
We usually dine at this location about 4-5 times per year, but this visit was not one of the better ones. Most disappointing was finding out that we couldn't use our $25 off coupon because we didn't order the Big Night Out or Create Your Own meals. Ironically, we both ordered 4-course entrees which were higher prices than the Create Your Own meals. That makes no sense and it was very frustrating to find that out upon paying the bill. We had received $100 in coupons ($25 for each quarter of 2018) as a bonus for purchasing a $100 gift card in the month of December.
The overall cadence of the meal was just off on this visit. A few examples:
1. While our server was very friendly, it felt that requests for drink refills and silverware were forgotten because we were seated back in the far corner. It was by far the longest dining experience we've had there (2.5 hours), which was not ideal.
2. Our tongs were taken away mistakenly after our first course, which presented a problem because we still didn't have them when our main course arrived. Even after asking for new ones, it still took at good 5-7 minutes to receive them while our food sat there.
3. Waited a very long time for chocolate fondue to cap off the meal, and then it took about 10+ minutes to get warm. We finally flagged down our server and asked to have the burner heat turned up higher.
4. Finally, even though I included a note about celebrating a birthday on our reservation, no special acknowledgement was made like on all previous visits.
There are very few romatic/special occasion type places that are also kid-friendly, this is one of the few. They have 2-seater booths that feel bigger than they really are, allow you to sit "next to" your date rather than across... at the same time, on the other side of the restaurant, they've got larger tables to accommodate larger families with children. It's a great date night and kid type restaurant because it's an interactive experience, and getting messy is expected, so all the fussiness that might usually come with a "special occasion" place is not really possible... The cooking style takes a while to get used to, if you don't cook or aren't familiar with fondu, and to be sure, I find filet mignon to be cooked MUCH better when it's not cut into little pieces and boiled in broth (or oil, depending upon your cooking style preference), but this isn't about the best steak in town, it's about having the best EXPERIENCE in town, and Melting Pot certainly provides that!
The food and staff were great but I gave th server a 3 star on his device as he left us hanging for our desert. Luckily another server came to our rescue. His name was George and he cleared our plates and brought us our dessert and him I give 5 stars for taking care of the first even though it wasn't his table. We will be back.
Be ready to be here for two plus hours. Also our service was extremely slow. We had to wait 15-20 minutes after being finished with the first course to get it cleared from our table and then ANOTHER 15-20 for them to bring the next course. We did not even get to enjoy our dessert fondue because by the time that is had arrived the restaurant had been closed for almost 2 hours and we were the last ones there. Feeling really awkward about that we decided to just pack it up and leave. When we got the dessert course we asked for our check which took our waiter another 20 minutes to get to us. Our reservation was for 8:45pm, first course came at 9:20pm, second came at 10:10pm, and dessert came at 10:45pm. I enjoy a lengthy dinner as much as the next but over two hours on a weekday is not what we had in mind. Especially because the closed the restaurant at 9pm.
We were very excited to finally get to try Melting Pot after missing out on reservations the last few restaurant week events. Our waiter seemed nice at first, making recommendations since we were new, but then never checked back on us during any course. He only came to start the next course and leave again. When telling us how to cook the main course, his instructions differed from every other server we could hear around us. He also recommended a certain cooking style for the main course without mentioning that it was a significant up charge. I had ordered a glass of wine as well, and when I got the check I noticed it was almost double the price I saw on the menu. When I asked why, he said I must have been looking at the single pour and he brought me the next size up, again without asking or mentioning the up charge. The food was very good and it's a great concept but it would have been nice to have a little more care and consideration.
I was shocked when I arrived and realized that the cheapest option was 40 dollars per person. You are not given the option to order just an entree (which is absurd). The only option is to get a 4 course meal. We ended up spending 102 dollars and the only drink we got was water. It’s ridiculous- do not go here. The server was kind but the over all feeling of the place is dark and grimey. It does not even have a high class feeling (which I feel is necessary in a restaurant where you spend at least $100).
Overall a good experience. It was our second time at the Melting Pot in Columbus. The first time we had a great time with just two of us. We had great prompt service and an excellent server.
This most recent time our server was missing for long periods of time while we waited for drinks, sauces, and the different courses.
The worst wait was when it took almost a half hour to pay and leave as our server dropped off the bill, said "Whenever you're ready.", and then disappeared. When he finally reappeared he disappeared for another ten minutes to run the debit card.
Despite the poor service, it was still great food, and we enjoyed it. We will go back.
Tyler Was a complete professional server. I think that Was his name. He was accommodating and entertaining And he left us alone to enjoy ourselves when it was needed. I could see how the experience there would have been mediocre with a less personable server. The melting pot is a very creative concept And I see the appeal based on that. But the service I got took it over the top.
I made our reservations to celebrate our 26th anniveresary. Our server, Adam, was warm and engaging throughout the evening. The menu was perfectly reviewed and our meal was expertly presented. Truly a wonderful experience from beginning to end where we both felt catered to. They set the bar high in service and quality. Will never contemplate going anywhere else for important celebrations!
Tim, our server, was excellent. Fun, different way to spend the evening as a family, celebrating a birthday. While it does take some time, it was very enjoyable, kept kids (ages 10 and 12) engaged in conversation while cooking. A bit pricey to go frequently but worth a special occasion.
