Our server was either new or completely disinterested in her job. We had to request things multiple times, correct her on menu pricing as well as having to ask for the food to be served in its entirety. Food quality wasn’t bad but wasn’t great.
One of my favorite places to eat and chat. No rush and long meals. All the food is delicious!
Sat for almost 40 minutes before we had food. Then another long delay for the next course.
Amazing restaurant! Phenomenal food and great atmosphere. 10/10. If you ever get the chance to go, GO.
Took son in law for his birthday, everyone enjoyed the meal and the experience.
I went to the melting pot with my family because I received a gift card. The food was delicious, however the restaurant was loud, hot, and our booth was cramped. (The noise was from talking and laughter, the heat from the stove on the table, and there was very little space between the seat and the table.)
I was really looking forward to a martini. Although the drink was beautiful, it had little flavor which was disappointing.
I would choose to go somewhere else.
Great food and service. Enjoyed our visit and will be back for another birthday celebration soon.
I love the Melting Pot! A great Sunday night dinner for my husband and I!
I was very happy with the service. It was my granddaughter's 13th birthday and they treated her to balloons, teddy bear, chocolate, and a virgin Yin and Yang drink! It was a great experience for her.
Excellent food and great experience, friendly staff, love it!
What a great night! Love it!
The food was excellent. Unfortunately our service was unacceptable. We were at the restaurant for over three and a half hours due to slow service and lack of follow through. We spoke to the manager and she did everything possible to compensate us for our time and lack of service.
If you want a trip down memory lane, to the 1970s, be sure and hit the Melting Pot. This place was the rage back when skiiing, tennis, peace signs and turtle neck sweaters were hip.
Other than nostalgia, however, I see no reason to go back. Dipping bread and veggies in melted cheese, followed by boiling your own individual pieces of meat, chicken, seafood is what it amounts to. Wow, what blast.
After the fact that you get to make your own food, the ordinariness of the experience wears off. Not worth the $150 (for four). The Columbia Melting Pot is very crowded and the service is really slow. Very slow and tedious experience and really meant for aging baby boomers.
Overall the staff seemed very disinterested and unprofessional. My wife and I love Melting Pot. We've been to this location a few times but over the past few years little problems have grown more noticeable. Part of the experience at Melting Pot is a personable waiter/waitress since they spend a good bit of time cooking/setting-up in front of you. Our waitress did not know the menu at all and provided no suggestions - felt like we bothered her with questions about new additions to the menu. Then she disappeared for over 30 minutes, seemed frustrated that we weren't ready to order desert when she finally emerged, and when she delivered our desert she tossed the check on the table with it (literally tossed). Just a poor experience. What makes it all worse is that this is simple training. I expect more when I pay $150+ for dinner. I would suggest you go to Towson or Annapolis. Don't go to Columbia.
This was the worst dinner of our lives. The service was so slow, we were there for 3 hours. We were in a back part of a room where it was dead silent (no music) and we felt claustrophobic. The food was bland and not worth $50 a person. We cooked the food at the recommended time and it did not seem done. We cooked it more, but it did not help. We both felt sick afterwards. Honestly if I could rate this restaurant, I’d give it a -1/10. I would rather spend my $120 at Taco Bell.
Worst restaurant I've ever been to.Spent over $100 to cook our own food in a weird cheese water! It SUCKED!!!!
Lol too expensive for what it’s worth. Wanted to give it a try and it was a fail and waste of my time and money
Quiet ambiance. Good service. Tasty food. Due to the type of dining experience, I would only attend with someone you're very close to since everyone will be using the same fondue pots. Great for date night
The experience we had wasn't awful. It just wasn't good, either. Things were actually going well until halfway through the meal. Up to that point it had been taking longer and longer for our server to return to us in our little back corner of the restaurant, but we let it go. Then I asked for a drink and some more dipping sauce (there was almost none in the containers to begin with), and he disappeared for about 20 minutes. We saw him at other tables, but couldn't flag him down. My food was overcooking in the pot or sitting cold on my plate, so I decided I'd had enough and called the restaurant to get the front desk. I asked if someone could just bring my drink and the sauce we asked for. I got maybe 3 servers and the manager. I finally got that sauce, but they took the other one and never brought more.
While I feel bad for causing a scene, this was supposed to be a special occasion, and I wasn't wrong to complain. I have good memories of this restaurant from previous visits years ago, and this experience did not live up to them. I appreciate what the manager did to make up for it, comping our dessert, but then not a few minutes later the server started clearing the entire table while we still had food on our plates. My fiance got to keep his plate, but he was trying to scrape up what little dipping sauces were left to finish the food because the server took that too. I feel like we were being rushed to finish dessert and go.
On the way out we let the manager know that there was some spilled soap on the floor in the bathroom. We were just trying to be considerate and give them a heads up so someone else didn't wind up complaining. The response we got felt like she just wanted us to leave. It wasn't a great night. I definitely won't be going back to that location ever again. The food was good, but then again, you cook your own food. The entire reason for going is the ambiance and the way the different courses are served. If that's no good, what's the point?
Considering we had reservations and it was not busy we were still seated late. Food was good but service was poor. We don’t know how they would operate if it is actually busy. There were maybe 5 tables but the service was horrible.
We Will not be back!
Food never disappoints just would’ve appreciated more attentive waitress & a little more light - can’t be real romantic anyway with the tables so close by
We enjoyed our visit very much, our server was wonderful!
We are from out of town and I had made a 5 pm reservation for myself & my husband. We arrived and were seated fairly quickly. Our waiter, Calvin, was exceptional. My husband has Celiac Disease and cannot eat gluten. Calvin was very sympathetic and brought us GF plates that were delicious. We enjoyed the 4 course meal and were at the restaurant for 3 hours. It was a cuisine experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. We will definitely be back!
The food was good, but the experience is what you're paying for. It's a nice restaurant, you get to do a lot of the boiling and dipping yourself (it is a fondue place, after all). They have lots of amenities if you're looking for uniqueness on a special occasion.
I have been to this melting pot many times and have always been very happy. However this night was terrible. We had a waiter who just would disappear and some other helper would try to help out. The cheese course they had put both the bread and vegetables on one plate and the bread was soggy(gross!). Couldn’t find our waiter to exchange so we dealt with it. Took another 30 minutes to get our salads. Our broth was put on the table only to evaporate because our food was no where because our waiter was no where. Some other staff member refilled our broth, never added the wine to the coco vin which we paid extra for and we finally got our food. We did the special valentine menu and were also very disappointed with the mini pieces of meat (4) of each that were on our trays. It wasn’t even busy when we were there for an 8 o’clock reservation. We did not get out of there until 11:30 due to the service. When I was leaving I tried to locate the manager to fill her in on our experience and she too was no where to be found. I’m not sure I’ll be back...it was very disappointing.
Our server was friendly & sweet. Food was amazing as always. After our entree arrived our server checked back in on us once after a few minutes, but after that she did not come back for over 30 minutes. We kept waiting for her to come over to ask for more vegetables and extra sauce. I used to serve so I understand that she was probably busy with other tables. However when she came over she just seemed rushed and did not apologize for not coming back over in a timely manner. I still was trying to be understanding, but would have been nice if she at least said she was caught up with a big party (for ex) and say sorry for not being able to come over to us, or whatever reason. The rest of the meal it seemed that we were bothering/inconveniencing her. Will of course come back to our favorite restaurant, but did not enjoy being left there for 30 minutes, while we saw other the servers approaching there tables constantly, at about 5 min intervals. (Would have spoken up to ask them for what we wanted, but kept thinking our server would soon show up. Also shouldn’t have to be on us to have to ask other staff members...)
Loved the experience very intimate and loved my waiter!!
The Melting Pot is one of my favorite restaurants. It frustrates me that the menu is constantly changing, but its saved by the fact that the things I enjoy the most remain. The food is always consistent, as is the staff. I would definitely recommend it.
Visitor from Taiwan
Amazing experience. I went to celebrate a birthday with my family on Saturday Feb 3rd, and we were treated like we were the guest of honor.
Our server Justin was outstanding. What stood out was his patience as two people in my party have never been to the establishment and were asking a ton of questions and were indecisive at times. He did a good job answering questions, explaining how the fondue works, and with engaging with everyone in our party.
Great service Melting Pot Columbia, great service Justin!
Party of 4 Saturday evening
Loved our server!!!
My only complaint is that it is way too hot. It made our meal less pleasant as a result. Even knowing to wear short sleeves would have been helpful.
First of all there was a kid yelling and screaming !!!! The waiter was over worked, not clear about things and service sucked !!! The owner walked around visiting tables and talked to a couple for about five minutes when we needed a refill !!! I wouldn’t recommend the melting pot in Columbia. We will go to the one in Towson if we ever decide to visit again. Spent 115.00 and the food suck and service was horrible. The owner should stop talking about herself and help her employees or hire more people. We don’t care about your personal life we want good service and a great night out .
fondue pit never heated. raw meat sat in lukewarm broth. server had too many tables and not available to correct for at least 20 mins. he eventually plugged in pot and our bloody broth finally heated. seemed risky to eat. revolting and lost appetite. no management to talk to.
Coming back again and again. The first time was a dinner with a personal friend and the second time was with my daughter. "You knocked it out of the Park" Again.
My husband and I had dinner and dessert at the Melting Pot. The food and drinks were great. My only complaint is that we had an 8:45pm reservation, but did not get seated until after 9pm. The restaurant seemed to be short staffed, which is something we have previously experienced at the Melting Pot . Overall, we had a good time and would recommend this place to others due to the unique dining experience!
Despite our reservation, we still had to wait more than 30 minutes to be seated. Our waiter was quick and attentive for the first 2 courses. However, he brought us a very small quantity of items to dip in our chocolate fondues. We had to wait 20 minutes for additional fruit, etc. In the meantime, the water in one of our pots had all boiled out and were were sitting with a stinky, burning pot. The smell and smoke is what finally brought back our waiter. However, it took another 30minutes to get our check after we had asked for it.
Great food, great server. Only criticism is something really important to me personally - had Open Table reservation, but had to wait at least 1/2 hour.
A set of circumstances came together to make this meal memorable for all the wrong reasons. Service was really pretty terrible. Our server had our table (in the corner) and a bunch of tables on the other side of a wall and as a result we barely saw her. Our burner was acting up so the oil came to temperature and then kept getting hotter. By the time we tracked down the manager, we had burned about 1/3 of our entrée. The promise of more careful watching, to ensure we didn't have the same problem, never came to be. We sat for 25 minutes with dirty, entrée plates waiting for someone to take our dessert order -- it was the manager who ultimately did so. This had been our choice for a fun, once in a while special meal but we will enjoy that elsewhere from now on.
The food here was great, however the service was seriously lacking. Had to leave my table twice and ask at the hostess stand for my server. Finally talked to the manager. Manager was wonderful and apologized repeatedly. She attended to my table after that. Overall not a bad experience but the lack of service definitely took away from our experience.
Great service. The staff was super friendly. The food was top notch. Everything was perfect.
