The Melting Pot - Columbia Ratings and Reviews
I went for my birthday with my husband and 2 friends on a Wednesday night. Our server, Michael, was great. It's definitely a dining "experience" and we took 3 hours to enjoy dinner and drinks. Wednesdays are half price wine night so we took advantage of that. The cheese and chocolate are the best courses. I had the vegetarian main course which was good too. It was pretty empty so it was quiet. The ambience is nothing special but we got a booth that felt private. It is expensive!!! But it's fun for a special occasion especially with friends!
My first experience was excellent. Jeremy our waiter was great. He explained everything thoroughly and kept everything moving nicely. Our waiter this time was new and let us sit waiting between courses. I was also looking forward to getting the cheese, salad and chocolate for $23. They discontinued this option and other items on the menu and raised their prices significantly.
I doubt I will return for another occasion.
We visited the Columbia Melting Pot for the first time on the 31st of October for our three year anniversary. We were a little late to our 6:15 reservation, but the hostess and manager kindly overlooked it. We were sat in an intimate little booth in the corner which was perfect for privacy. Our server, Jermemy was amazing. He had a trainee with him which was also good too, but still learning. He explained everything to us because the menu can be a bit confusing for first timers and gave us recommendations. The manager also stopped by a few times and checked on us as well. The service and ambiance was absolutely amazing. The food was so delicious and portion sizes were good too. We were offered numerous times if we needed more for dipping but each course we had more than enough. It is definitely an experience so its best to come in no rush just to enjoy yourself, eat, and relax. It made our night very special and we have found our new favorite place!
We love the melting for the 4 course meal. It really is a lot of food! The rooms are lightly lit, and somehow in a small room with 7 other tables it was very quiet besides my daughter getting restless. I would not recommend for a small child because you have to wait for food to be cooked. The entire dinning experience could have been faster, we waited awhile for dessert.
Food was great, but the service was horrible! Our server started off attentive but once he He got our food out to us (actually having someone else bring our main meal) we never saw him again. No drink refills and when we needed an extra utensil I asked another server to get one but that never happened. I ended up going to see the hostess in order to ask her for the utensils. Server finally came back when it it was time to pay and he could seem to have cared less when I commented about how we had needed him a few times earlier.
This particular location is not in a great spot. Parking was bad, the window in the back was smashed. The decor was dated and offensive to the military. Their shadow box was ill placed and had a flag that was way too small in it. The coin inside had fallen over. Our waiter was too busy flirting at another table to bring our wine and anything else in a timely manner. Aside from the amount of gluten free food, it wasn't that great.
I was very disappointed in this location. I frequent the Annapolis location and have always had a stellar experience. I made reservations two weeks in advance for my birthday. Upon arrival, no body was manning the host stand. After about 5 minutes, the hostess wandered over and did not acknowledge us, but starting crawling on the floor, apparently looking for an earring back. A server walked by and asked out loud if she planned to seat us. She acted annoyed and sat us right in front of the door. Our server tried, but she was clearly in th weeds all night. It took 3 minutes to get our drinks fro mthe bar (I had ordered a bottle of wine for half price bottle night, and a crafted lemonade). The salads and main course were fine, but we almost left without dessert, the best part, because we were left to sit for over 20 minutes after finishing the main course. Very disappointing, especially for the price. I will never return.
We go here for just about every special occasion. It's where me and my husband usually have a nice relaxing evening and can take our time and have deep conversation. This past time it was my 30th birthday. We just had our second baby 2 weeks ago and it was the one and only thing we had planned for my birthday. The food was great as always but, the experience was the worst we had in all the times we had been there. Our waitresses name was Kesha. She rushed us so much and kept coming by when we were having our entree asking if we had looked at the dessert menu yet. It was 5 different times and finally I said we just wanted to take our time. About 5 minutes went by and she was back to ask us again! It usually takes us 2-2 1/2 hours to have a nice relaxing evening at the melting pot we were in and out in an hour. She never refilled any of our waters or asked if we wanted any extra dippers for any course. Over the years we have had our birthdays there and we always had some sort of candle brought to us to blow out. Even though she knew the occasion, that was never offered either. Overall, we LOVE The Melting Pot but, if you book here, I would not recommend having her as a waitress if you don't want to feel like you're being pushed to leave.
This was a terrible experience. The service was so slow. It took 45 minutes just for my husband to get a water refill. 2 of us got the same entree and they put it on the same plate. Not at all convenient because we were on opposite sides of the table. We started with one server and then in the middle of our meal was switched to another with notice. We usually have a great visit but this was the worst. When I tried to explain to the manager I felt like it was an inconvenience to her. Next time I want the Melting Pot, it will not be at this location!
The hostess was extremely rude. She rolled her eyes at us more than once. We arrived for our reservation, which we had made for 5. She told us she could seat us, and then rudely said “wait, there’s five of you?” We said yes. She threw the menus down and said “well you’re just gonna have to wait then.” So we waited an additional 30 minutes, while we listened to her and another hostess complain about how we had ruined their plans for the evening. For the $250 bill, I expected to be treated with respect. We will not be returning.
When we arrived to the restaurant the hosts seemed to be running around. Our reservation was not until 9:30PM so I assume they just had a busy night. We had a reservation and were taken to our table right away. Service was excellent. The server did make a mistake with one of our drinks, but we did not correct him, because overall he did a great job. Would recommend and return!
We had dinner at the Melting Pot and had a great time. The restaurant is more than dinner. Because it’s a leisurely meal with plenty of time to relax and chat, make sure you go with good friends–--or one special friend. There are various choices you make, but dinner is three courses–--four if you add dessert. And because you are constantly dipping bite-sized edibles into a fondue pot, the meal takes some time. You start with a cheese fondue and bread, vegetables and apples for dipping. Since there’s only one fondue pot per table, you have to agree on what to select for this course. We decided on a cheese, artichoke, and spinach combination. Next we had individual salads. Most of us ordered the house salad and were very pleased with the dish. After the salads, you have a main course with several different choices of meats, seafood and vegetables. We all opted for three meat selections. I had shrimp, filet mignon, and rubbed pork. They came with a selection of dipping sauces. Our waiter told us how long each kind of meat or seafood should be cooked, but, with the beef, I decided that was only a guideline, since some people want their meat rare and others want it well done. Also included were vegetables which we could put into the hot liquid and cook along with our meat. After the main dish, we decided to split a dessert order–--chocolate fondue with various sweets for dipping including strawberries, pound cake and a rice krispie treat. One order for the four of us was plenty. The sauce came with a spoon, and my wife found it easier to drizzle some of the hot chocolate over her dessert goodies rather than trying to dip them in the pot.
Everything was really good, and I’d recommend the Melting Pot if you’d like to spend an enjoyable dinner chatting with friends.
We have always loved going to The Melting Pot. I noticed the "Great Food" is not listed in the Open Table reasons to recommend the restaurant, but for me the food at The Melting Pot is very delicious. One of the main reasons my wife and I love to go is that it is a very relaxed, romantic dinner. It takes a few minutes for each bite of your food to cook and it makes for a great time of conversation. My wife and I talk about anything and everything and we really enjoy the time. Wednesday evenings is half price for a bottle of wine which I think is a great deal. If you have never gone to The Melting Pot, I highly recommend it. It's a great evening out.
One last thing, we have never had a bad waiter or waitress. They have ALL been very professional and first class.
We absolutely will not go back. This is the third time we've visited this Melting Pot location and absolutely hated it. The server was OK, but the manager was a jerk, the people around us were loud, there was no privacy, and the food was below average. We just did not enjoy our experience at all.
Our server was great and very friendly, wish I could remember her name. Food was okay. Seems like the food has gone down hill a little. Portion size was smaller then last time we visited, and you used to get a small slice of cheesecake on the plate for the chocolate not anymore, you have to pay extra for it now. We usually never finish any of the courses because it's so filling but on this visit we finished every course.
