The Melting Pot - Columbia
The food was absolutely fantastic (as always). However, the service was quite disappointing. When my wife and I arrived, there was not a host present and we waited 5 minutes to be greeted. It then took another 6-7 minutes for our table to be ready. That normally would not have bothered us, but the restaurant was not busy. Our server was nice and professional, but she rarely checked on us. We had to wait an unusual amount of time between courses. My wife and I have always had pleasant experiences at this particular restaurant. I’m leaving a review this time because having such a disappointing time was way out of the norm.
We had a truly excellent experience at the Melting Pot. The food was great and our service was some of the best we've ever had (yay Cheyenne!). Overall, just a great time. We can't wait to come back.
Service was very slow, asked for a water, an hour later our waiter came back with our dinner but no drinks. Asked again, 15 minutes go by. Nothing. Asked again at that point we were done eating. He finally brings them. This point we are eating our chocolate. So got seated at 730, no drinks until 8:45-9. On top of him sweating to death, wiping his face then touching the plates he was giving us. Have been many many times and have never had an issue...
The service was great at first but then really
Poor service, mediocre overpriced food, dated and run down decor, perhaps the worst dining experience we’ve ever had. And we go out a lot.
Service was slow. The whole experience took 3 hours
Good was great. The waiter was a little slow in serving the courses and didn’t ask us about food allergies so when got to dessert, we realized we never had a chance to tell about the allergy to bananas and pineapple. Then he forgot to ring up the flowers and balloon and had to announce to the table the cost of it.
I have been to the melting pot many times and have always had wonderful service. Tonight however my service was terrible. Our server was absent from our table for 30 minutes while we were waiting for our entrees first that entire time.
We had a Groupon and had to make a reservation to use it.
Our server was very busy (Saturday night understandable), but did their best to make sure we were taken care of. Our server was a little curt and in a hurry.
We had to wait a good 15+ min in between courses but it was ok. Once our server asked other people to come refill our drinks but they never came by. Our server did get our refills though.
We got a table where the switch to the heating plate was on the floor. Thankfully, it was just the two of us, so we moved to the other side of the table so we wouldn't kick the unit on accident.
Most of the food tasted like it was in the refrigerator for at least a day. Not super fresh, but still pretty fresh.
When you have a restaurant where you cook the food yourself, you need very good ventilation. However, there were no units with a pull down vent or anything. A lot of steam and smell of food ended up on me at the end of our experience.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. This night we were celebrating our anniversary and had a great time. I would highly recommend The Melting Pot to anyone.
Birthday family dinner! Great service and food.
Brittany was awesome!
The staff was knowledgeable and the experience was fulfilling
So glad we went and can't wait to go again! What a great fun meal that was so much more then just cheese. The wine list was AMAZING and a good value. The options including Vegan, Gluten Free etc was awesome and unexpected! Brought my dad for his birthday but now i'll go back for the great food and comfortable, enjoyable evening.
Hayden our waiter was great and explained the options regarding the food as well as cooking options that included grilling (who knew?). We got a bottle of wine, salad, a cheese fondue, 2 mixed plates of meat including shrimp and veggies with tofu and dumplings and should have had the dessert - our mistake!
Why go to get the same old food at chains that are noisy and greasy when you can enjoy great food, great drinks and a different experience?! I was also really impressed to meet John, one of the owners, who was a part of the wonderful evening ensuring his guests were all having a good time. It felt like we were at his home which made it even more of a wonderful evening.
Our latest visit--a birthday celebration--to this restaurant was truly disappointing. Service was extremely slow (3 hours in all, with long gaps of not seeing the waiter on a slow evening in the restaurant); skimpy portions of dipping items that were never rationed before; and a lack of attention to our party that was unlike our previous experiences.
Brittany was great and awesome food
We combined the cheese fondue, spinach salad, and meats. All were delicious. Cooking your own and dipping turned a meal into an entertaining experience. The room was quiet and each table private. The service was well paced with a server who was pleasant and offered excellent advice when asked. This is definitely a great place to come for a guest experience.
Our server was absolutely amazing. The only issue was the gentleman fixing a burner a few tables down and using a power drill.
The food is always excellent.
Had a wonderful time for our anniversary. The waiter was very professional. When we walked in, the host greeted us with a smile. The food was great.
Love our server
Our server was amazing.
Management went above & beyond to accommodate us. We booked the wrong location for the all you can eat special and the manager gave us the same deal!
It was our waiter first night and he did an awesome job!
5-Stars across the board!
They were short staffed so we ended up being there for over 2 hours. The food is pretty good if you like cooking your own food, and for the high bill, you don’t leave as stuffed as I would have liked. We probably won’t dine here again.
Rick was excellent the entire experience was lovely. High recommend
We always enjoy our experience at the Columbia Melting Pot. This time our cheese course was very “soupy,” and the cheese didn’t cling to the dippings. Other than that, everything was great!
Service was a little slow but she was new. Took 30 minutes every time we ordered our drinks, at one point I just got up and went to the bar.
We always come to Melting Pot for our very rare but special moments to remember: anniversaries, birthdays, or our first date night in 2-3 years. Always great service; love that it isn't rushed. The extras are special and of course, the food is always devine. Thanks you, and we'll see you again.
There was only two servers on the night we went and it was sooo crazy! The servers did a great job but shame on the manager for not getting anyone else in. I would go back but only if I had a coupon.
We had a wonderful time. Our servers were great, food was great, just a wonderful anniversary dinner.
The inside of the restaurant is divided into several sections so your area of dining is very quiet. The 4 course experience is one to be shared...there is no need for each person to order a 4 course experience. The food is plentiful, so varied and delicious.
The service is remarkable...knowing the speed of the server when bringing out a hot pot for dipping and the knowledge each server must have on prepping you the customer on what to do....is amazing. The manager herself was constantly walking around and ensuring any needs were met.
It was our first time there, yet one of the 4 had been there and recommended the sharing. For all 4 of us, we ate plenty and had a great time with the dippings...especially the chocolate dessert.
Great food, great service.
Our server was new and did a great job in the time allowed. She was definitely not the issue. Food, burner issues, and ineptitude were the issues.
Our burner wasn't heating correctly. The cheese wouldn't even melt for the fondue. She had to turn the heat up almost as high as it would go. The same could be said about the pot of bouillon to cook our food. I had chicken in the pot for 20 minutes that was still raw. I finally turned the burner up myself, just so we could eat! We had a groupon and the bill was rung up multiple times, because it was incorrect. They were charging for the whole meal without taking the correct discounts. Then when I saw the wrong tax was included I had to talk to the owner. He was not friendly and was demeaning, talking down to me as if I was an idiot woman who didn't understand how math works. I paid for a groupon and there wasn't anywhere on the groupon stipulations that said taxes were extra and were to be paid when using the groupon. They are ripping customers off due to the missing fine print! I have been to the Annapolis Melting Pot multiple times and the experience has always been on point. We will never go to this location again.
Very nice place. The employees really know how to take care of their customers. The food was delicious.
The Groupon was a great deal, could have been somewhat pricey without it. Is a nice place to enjoy a special dinner. They do not rush you, it is a dining experience.
Great food, friendly staff. Such a cool experience.
My server didn’t explain anything, he kept forgetting a lot of items we requested. We stayed about 3.5 hours was the last one to leave and as I was walking out I heard another server tell him to check on us I guess they were ready to leave which the time was 12am but I will not be coming back to this location.
I have been to various Melting Pots many times over the years including this one. Recently ate there and had the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant.
I had made a reservation for my wife and my anniversary online and even called the day before to make sure they had the private booth, the celebration package, and the message they were to write on her plate. We rarely get nights away from the kids so i wanted to make sure things were perfect.
Upon arriving, 10 minutes prior to our reservation time, we were asked to wait, and spent the next 50 minutes waiting for a table (that we had already reserved). During this wait, I had to ask the manager on duty if they had the preparations complete and they had no idea what i was talking about until they went and checked the system again. I was told they would "get everything ready" .
I was then pulled aside and told that they didn't have the roses or candles for the package I had reserved, but they would give me a similar package they did have materials for, for free (which is irritating given I had just confirmed with them the night before).
We were sat down at a very public table at the end of a hall (not the private one agreed upon). On our table was a semi-crushed box of chocolates, 4 balloons, and a teddy bear with the balloon strings tied around his neck like a noose.
I had to remind the server and the manager of the private note, the campaign toast, the photograph, and the wine flight I had ordered multiple times, in front of my wife (completely ruining any of the surprises that had been planned).
To make matters worse, service was unbearably slow. In total we spent 3.5 hours of our anniversary waiting to get food, slowly being served courses, and waiting for them to bring out parts of the celebration package that they forgot. There were too many mistakes to even list in this review. The Melting Pot in Columbia ruined our anniversary and our night. I do not recommend them for special occasions.
Awful. Bad service. Took 4 hours to eat one meal. It was my birthday and it was awful
It was all good. The hostess was pretty awful but the rest was great.
The MP is one of my favorite restaurants. There is no where else to get this experience. Everything is always fresh and high quality and delicious. Most recently we have been going to the Columbia location where they have been very accomodating with special requests. If Rick is working try to get a table in his section; he is friendly (not annoying), never misses a detail and very attentive. Can't wait to go back!
We love the Melting Pot. Great waite staff and the food is delicious. I just wish the music was less pop and more ambient to the environment. Instrumental or a soft jazz would make for a nicer over all feel.
