The Melting Pot - Cincinnati
The intimate dining experience that made Melting Pot so special has been replaced by a casual open-concept quick in-and-out restaurant. Our server was nowhere to be found our entire meal. He introduced himself by showing up at our table and saying “Shawn’s back.” We ordered what we thought was a 2 person meal and it turns out he entered our entire food order as a “single” so my husband and I shared a single meal. When our entree arrived the plate was not so gently dumped on our table and then we were abandoned without an explanation of what was what. Again, the same thing happened during dessert. The chocolate was placed on the burner and he walked away. We ordered the original which has a spoonful of peanut butter that is usually mixed table side by the server. Our chocolate was delivered cold with the peanut butter blob in the center. Lastly, we were given the wrong bill and our server never did return to fix it. We had to flag down another employee to correct it. This was the most disappointing birthday dinner I’ve ever had.
It’s was a great experience and the waitress was on top of it all!
Marty helped create a wonderful birthday experience for my friend Robert. He was knowledgeable about the menu and made suggestions based on our preferences.
Very slow service between courses!
My daughter chose this place for her birthday. The food was great, the experience great. You made her feel so special for her birthday. Thank you so much for a great time!
This was our first (and likely last) time going to The Melting Pot. The food was “good”, the service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was above average...but the prices are astronomical. $261 with tip, for 4 people with soft drinks.
We did not leave hungry (in fact, we took a little home). However, I just can’t justify spending that much money when I’m preparing most of the food myself.
Service was excellent and the food was great. Only complaint is that we ordered too much food
The remodel at the restaurant is beautiful, definitely worth stopping by to see. As usual the food and service was outstanding. Always look forward to our time at Melting pot Cincinnati
Food is consistently awesome, always served with a smile. Restaurant remodel is spectacular :-)
Great food and experience! Cara was a wonderful waitress, and you can’t beat the Leap Day specials!
My server Michelle was awful. She didn’t know the menu, she spilt stuff multiple times. We sat and waited for a long time. She did not do what the others normally do.
One of my all time favorite restaurants in the Cincinnati area.
Abundant menu selections. Nice atmosphere and attentive wait staff.
It was probably my worst experience dinning. We had a reservation at 8:30 which I made a week in advance. We got there at 8:15, we weren’t seated until 9:40 and they technically close at 10. Took my server 15 min to figure out what drink I said I wanted (coke no ice) besides just coming back and asking me again what I wanted he went to the bartender to see if he knew what I wanted, since he thought I wanted some wine or a cocktail. And we didn’t receive our first course the cheese fondue until 10:30! The bartender tried bringing us our Salads which is the second course. Overall it was terrible, the food was still good and they gave us our meal for free. But I still don’t understand what was happening that night.
I was excited to return to Melting Pot—my friend and I arrived on time for our “early bird” reservation, but we waited about 20 minutes to be greeted by our waiter. We were each given a free glass of wine because of our wait, and that was very nice. After that perk and many apologies, we expected a more concerted effort for the remainder of the meal. However, the waiter continued to make us wait lengthy periods of time before checking in, at every turn. It was disappointing and frustrating, to say the least. Our portion of cheese was also pitiful—that’s usually our favorite part!
We love Melting pot. Not sure about the new look. Miss the quiet booths.
The melting pot was a great choice for a more formal and special dinner
I took my daughter as a surprise. We had a great time. We are not fans of the new more open concept. We also miss the dressing on the California salad. We still enjoyed ourselves and will definitely return!
The Service was very slow. The server was upset that did not order more food and made the kids feel uncomfortable. We asked the server if happy hour prices were in effect, and he said they were. But when the bill came it was too high; then, it took over 15 minutes to fix. It was a poor experience and way over priced.
The restaurant was very understaffed this time. We were made to wait an hour past our reservation time. Once our favorite spot, not any more.
Maybe. The food would have been good if the server explained how to regulate the oil. It was turned up the whole time and everything burned. The server was very nice! However, it was EXCEPTIONALLY SLOW!!!! She did apologize several times. But, we had our younger children with us and dinner took almost 3 hours. We never received our last drink order.
Restaurant was a bit crowded this evening, so it was a bit louder than usual. Thomas was the server....great job. remodel is beautiful :-)
My friend and I took our girlfriends here for Valentine’s Day, we were unaware they had a limited menu, which was fine because we were willing to pay. The waitress treated us poorly. She only came back to give us our courses of the meal, and then to get the bill. Never once did she ask us if we wanted anything more, or how everything was, or fill our waters. And when I paid at the end she told us that next time we should ask if they have their regular menu before coming in. Felt like she gave up on our table because we were a bunch of college kids who were initially put off by the thought of a 200 dollar bill. Disappointing.
We took our 12 year old here for an alone night with her (we have several children). The experience over all was amazing! Cooking the food was so fun. The taste was even better! However, we did have to wait close to 30 minutes for our table (we had reservations). We are absolutely coming again!!!!!
We went for a late Valentine’s dinner and got a table instead of a booth which took away from the ambiance. The food was superb, but our server seemed frazzled and forgot our order, champagne toast and took about 20 minutes between courses.
I usually go there a few times a year for special occasions however I have not been in over two years.. my service was pretty poor to say the least, we requested 2 Cokes and did not get those until we were done with our second course and starting to prepare the 3rd corse I did not get a refill the entire time I was there and our Cokes ended up watered down, the cheese came out and it was warm to start but the burner was never turned on leaving the cheese to get thick and relatively cold.. the desert was definitely the best part of our dinner but the burner was left on high and begin to burn the chocolate I had to find a switch and turn it off myself ... I've always enjoyed my time at The Melting Pot and try to go there anytime the occasion calls for it however i feel it was not what it used to be and I was overall pretty disappointed with the service... at this point I will not be returning to meltingpot.
The food was very good. There was a nice variety to dip/cook in all of the courses. Service was prompt. The atmosphere was fun as our party anticipated actual participation in our dinner. The first course was jumbo shrimp cocktail with a horseradish cocktail sauce but unfortunately, was so hot it was inedible. When we asked our server for other cocktail sauce, she said there wasn't any other. We asked for ketchup and she said they didn't have ketchup. She finally brought some plum sauce. Our other disappointment was our Turtle Sundae chocolate course which when they brought it said they didn't have any candied pecans. Sorry. Could they have offered plain pecans which you can buy at Kroger? The biggest disappointment of all was the bill. With two $12 drinks only, our bill for four persons was $285.00 PLUS a 20% tip. It was an interesting experience but not nearly worth $332.00.
Amazing as always! I love coming here, the service and the food is always fantastic!
Celebrated Valentines Day weekend. I love the MP, but unfortunately every aspect of our service was well below the expectation of a night out at the MP.
Our server and one training were terrible in every way. Forgot to present rose when seated, waited for over 5 minutes after seated to be greeted, cheese selection was asked before we were even able to order drinks, chocolate was served without dunkers, had to wait for server to come back before realization that dunkers were not served. Server made over couple next to us and totally acted as if we were a bother.
Big disappointment considering it was a special occasion and the money spent. Unfortunate.
We had the best waitress and everything tasted fantastic. We went for our 8 year anniversary and it was worth every penny!
This has been our go to place for our anniversary every year- we love it. We look forward to it every year. This year, we decided to go on Valentine’s Day. I quickly figured out, though, that going during a holiday was NOT a good idea. The “set” valentines day menu had much smaller portions of food for the same place. I mean the meat plate was tiny. We were jam packed into a back room like sardines with several other couples. It was so warm that we were both sweating and this made the experience very uncomfortable. It was too busy, the cheese never warmed up properly but our server was running around and too busy to notice. We kind of felt like the food was thrown at us and that was it. Very impersonal and rushed which has not been our previous experience here. I’m so sad because this has been our go to spot for years- but I don’t think they are able to handle how busy they’ve gotten and still keep their quality.
Liked the old decor/setup better...food still great!
Waitress was fantastic!!
I quite liked everything, the waitress was really nice, but it took her a while to get food to us, and at the end on the night my boyfriend asked to get our checks split, and she looked at him and said “you’re joking right?” Which I believed was incredibly rude
It’s Valentines Day, they were super busy. We got seated in the bar area with our daughter. So did another family with two young kids. We get it! If there was another section, we would have been put there. But there want. You roll with it. Enjoy the meal.
Unfortunately, a third family next to us hosted an extremely loud and rude young adult who used the F word a dozen times. My husband finally said something and another patron 100% backed him up. Don’t get me wrong, we were not clutching our pearls... this guy was out of line loud for no reason. The guys dad blamed us for sitting at the bar with a kid.
The servers were more than accommodating- before and after the incident. We asked to be moved to avoid more conflict, but there was nowhere to go until dessert. We sat through passive aggressive comments and eventually were able to be seated in a different section.
Coco and Lacey, our servers, were so kind to our daughter. They went above and beyond to make her feel super special and make us feel comfortable.
Management made sure we knew it was a family restaurant and apologized - though it was no fault of theirs whatsoever.
They comped us a dessert plate “add on” that was not necessary, so we payed it forward and sent the same to the gentlemen who backed us up at the bar.
Overall, it was a lovely meal.
Thank you TMP!!!
Everything was good except it took over 4 hours for dinner because they were so busy.
Food was great
It was great evening!
The food was good. We only go to the melting pot once a year- this time we had a $200 check with tiny meal portions- we felt like servings are getting smaller and smaller but the price isn’t changing. The different parts of our meal took a long time to come out. The salads were cut by at least half the size they used to be. They no longer make the cheese and broth at the table, which takes away from the fun of getting to know the server and watch them prepare the meals. Multiple people come out to bring different portions of the meal- so the fun we used to have with our one server is gone. We just aren’t happy with all the changes. Doubt we will be coming back, which is a shame, because we always considered it a special treat. But, not worth the $200 we spent.
Hello Anonymous, I would like to apologize that you did not have a better time with us recently. You can request to have cheese made table side, I am sorry if server did not inform you. The broth has always been delivered to the table already in the pot. Our portion sizes have not changed. We have new plate ware that may make them look smaller but they are the same. Thank you for your feedback, we take all seriously. Best regards, ZH
It is a neat experience but menu is too confusing and you feel like they are just trying to make you spend too much.
The waitress was really good.
