Not our first visit so we know it is a dining experience that will take awhile... but, the wait between courses was way too long. They blamed everything on a large party, but you shouldn’t book a party if you can’t staff it without putting the rest of your customers out. Never got another bottle of wine we ordered. Had another server bring us water refills. Waited for 20 minutes for our server to come back to cash out our bill and finally just took it to the hostess stand.

The Melting Pot is not a restaurant you go to often, but look forward to an enjoyable meal when you do go. The food is good, and it is fun to cook and dip three courses of your meal. However, on this trip the meat was of poor quality and too chewy to eat.

Our service was quite slow, as our waiter, Mike, had another table with 14 people that seemed have arrived the same time as we did. Mike said he asked a few others to check on us when he knew he couldn't get to us right away, but only once did someone do so and she didn't offer to refill our drinks (diet Cokes) which were almost gone several times before we got refills. However, Mike did make it up to us with a nice discount on our bill, which was much appreciated. Our cheese and chocolate fondue were both wonderful, but we weren't impressed with the Classic entree that we got - it seemed very skimpy on the meat (3 shrimp for two of us to share, four small pieces of steak, etc.) and didn't have a lot of flavor with the same sauces and spreads that we have had for many years now. We will return, probably for just cheese and chocolate, but we were disappointed with this meal.

My wife and I made a reservation for 12pm on Sunday, and we turned up a little earlier (11:55am). We decided to park and walk the local strip-mall for a few minutes, at which point a homeless looking person came running out of the restaurant and immediately said ,"If you're going to the bar I'm going to have your car towed!" My wife answered him and told him that we have a reservation and we are just going for a quick walk prior to that time. He then backed down, but his initial approach was aggressive.

We assumed from the gentleman's sloppy attire (untucked shirt, not management dress) that he was perhaps maintenance or janitorial staff which would explain his approach. We were both shocked to learn that he was the OWNER! My wife and I have 3 tips for the OWNER:
1) Next time ask, "Excuse me do you have a reservation with us today?" That way he could avoid assuming the worse and being overly aggressive.
2) He should dress more professionally, befitting of his role within the organization.
3) Fix the light that has been out for 4 months on the exterior (The "M" in Melting Pot).

The food was good and the server did a great job.

Adam

Unfortunately, the Melting Pot has lost its past high quality - wait staff are in t-shirts and overworked. Everything seemed rushed. Food remains good. Continues to be a unique experience but not the great place I remember.

Service was disappointing. Waitress and manager were nice but we had to ask fir things 3-4x. While I would not want to be rushed, there was way too much time between courses. Food was ok/fine. Certainly the experience is why to go.

We had a group of 7 people and this was perfect! We had the Wisconsin Three Cheese and Spinach and Artichoke to start off. We each created our own entrees, and I really liked the duck. Other favorites at the table were the fillet mignon and the shrimp. Ask about the Snickers fondue for dessert! It's amazing!

Our server would disappear for long periods of time after serving a course. Drinks would go unfilled for a spell. A parent was allowing her kid to test all of her ringtones in her phone over and over and this was killing our atmosphere.

We were celebrating a 17 year olds birthday. We had 4 teenagers and the meal seemed to drag at times. Our server talked way too fast, but at times made excuses why food wasn’t coming out. So, the timing seemed off. Food was good-not great.

Disappointed that the menu hasn’t changed at all in several years. I almost felt rushed by the server. I was looking forward to the spinach and mushroom salad- which is the one thing you got rid of. The salads were tiny and not enough dressing choices.

Great place. Great food and service.
If you are a table of four of more i would recommend a table with two burners.
That way you can get a second dipping sauce.

Overall a great place

We have been to the melting pot several times. Because this is fondue my review will be based off of the service we received. It was fairly busy Friday night but it took at least 20 minutes just to get our drink order taken and the service was down hill from there. We had to stop someone other than our waiter to ask for extra sauce because we never saw him after he dropped off our food. We were not given a menu for the chocolate fondue, at least we knew what we wanted. We sat for 15 min after our chocolate was done before anyone stopped to give us our bill. Do a meal that was over $100 we do expect better service.

Really appreciated the great service they provided. I took my wife out because we were going through a tragedy. I requested a more private area and they were more than accommodating. Even left rose pedals on the table. Service was great the waitress was very friendly, it really helped cheer her up and I greatly appreciated how hard they worked to make it a nice time when it was badly needee. Thank you!

Our entire dinning experience was simply wonderful and a romantic memory for both me and my date. Although it had been quite a long time since I dined at this location, for my date it was her first time to experience The Melting Pot. Our server was remarkable in her ability to make us feel at home and well cared for the entire evening. Her knowledge and suggestions made the dining experience a cherished shared event.

From the very beginning, it was a bad experience. We didn’t have a server for 20 min. Once we finally ordered our drinks, it took a while to get them. The cheese course was delicious. When the server brought out the cooking pot, she didn’t turn it on. We realized this after our meat had been sitting in the liquid for 5min and didn’t cook. Our meal turned out great after it got turned on. Then the same thing happened to our chocolate. The server never took responsibility for anything and kept blaming either us, or “mechanics” for the issues we were having.

It was our 23rd wedding anniversary. We had reservations at a rather early dinner time of 6:15 PM. Unfortunately our waitress was very impatient and kept rushing us to make decisions at every interval. I was hoping for a very slow dinner and it turned into a race somehow. She was friendly, just flustered and rushed to the point of annoying. She made a great cheese course and wine recommendation that we loved. We chose the traditional Coq au vin main course cooking method and she poured in so much red wine that all our food turned purple and tasted odd. We were sat near the kitchen and the traffic and noise in that hallway was very distracting. Not the kind of romantic evening we were hoping for. May not do this again for future special events ... or any time.

I really enjoyed the food and the look of the restaurant. We went there for my husband’s birthday and our anniversary. My complaint is that the waitress was not personable and she was irritated by the amount of people she was serving. At times she talked to us as if we weren’t understanding what she was saying. That ruined our overall experience. We waited a really long time for the raw meats to be brought to us and our pot was boiling on our table for 30 minutes. The table beside us who came in after us were brought their meats before us but they hadn’t been provided with their pot yet. The waitress didn’t put in for the premium add on with the cheese so we weren’t provided with the meats that come with the cheese. I didn’t mind the long wait but it was so unbearable for my husband he said he probably wouldn’t be back which is sad for me because I really enjoyed everything but the waitress. The waitress later in the evening even said don’t I seem calm now which seemed inappropriate to us. We were there for 3 hours which seemed like a long time for a 4 course experience.

The Melting Pot is positively delicious and a good twist on dining out. There's nothing at all like it in the Indianapolis area. It's truly a gem! We love the food, the experience and the setup. It's intimate for date night but still appropriate for families and friends.

My only suggestion is to work to make the time between courses faster. We waited nearly a half hour between salad and dinner. By then, in that low-lit atmosphere with bellies already full of delicious cheese, we were sleepy about about ready to go home -- before the best parts (meat and chocolate!) had even arrived. Our server, Michael, was balancing between the bar and our table and was great. He complimented our fun Halloween costumes and made us feel right at home. The speed of service appears to be an overarching issue I've had every time I've visited. It was not unique to this server.

This restaurant is truly breathtaking. I went here with my girlfriend for our year anniversary. Not only was the atmosphere lovely the server was friendly and made sure our every need was met. The food is exceptional, the freedom they give you is extraordinary. I loved the cooking process while being able to have a conversation.

I took my daughter and a few friends to the melting pot for her ninth birthday. When I booked on OpenTable, I specifically marked it was for her birthday. Our waitress was not kid friendly and never said a word to her or wish her happy birthday. Nor did she interact with the kids at ALL! As we were leaving, I told the manager and all she had to say was “oh sorry that was our fault.” In my opinion, this is not acceptable when I spent almost $200 on a meal.

This has been one of my son's favorite places since he was young so we like to go there for his birthday. The portions were perfect, not too big, not too small. The meal is more for an experience so you need to make sure you are not in a hurry and enjoy the courses and the process.

We had 2 DISCOVER book coupons for the party of 4. The coupon is buy 1 entree get one free and there is no restriction on the # coupons used in a party, however the manager would only allow us to use 1. Then, when we checked out-she only gave us half off 1 entree!

This is our fourth visit to the Melting Pot at Castleton, and it was the best yet. We opted for an early dinner, which possibly attributed to the faster service time. We expect to spend two hours dining here, as it is a four course meal. The food came at a perfect pace, and everything was prepped very nicely! We will definitely return!
